Wouldn't TLG be considered a risk?
Its their IP and their project. This is Sega's IP and Yu Suzuki's project.
Wouldn't TLG be considered a risk?
So the developer doesn't have to cater to the lowest common denominator as a result of developing for multiple consoles. Why?
I want Suzuki to have as much money as possible. I don't think Sony is giving him a lot so I'm happy to still contribute to make it as good as possible.
We're getting Shenmue 3 with a major platform holders support thanks to the outcry of support at the conference Kickstarter. Everything sounds good to me with the way it went down
A deal that's only triggered if the KS is funded, meaning Sony couldn't confirm or deny the deal at the time of the conference.
The Sony guy never used the word funding in that video, he only said they'd help out with third party productions. It wasn't made clear what exactly what sony will help with.
So kickstarters are now going to replace petitions now?
Gio Corsi quote:
"Absolutely. First off, Shenmue III was the number one ask on the whole #BuildingTheList campaign, so when that first started, right off the bat, 'Shenmue III, Shenmue III, Shenmue III.' So this has been an ask for as long as I've been at PlayStation. And we met with Suzuki-san at GDC last year and we started the long road to try and figure out how we were going to get this whole thing made.
"We said, 'the only way this is going to happen is if fans speak up,' and we thought Kickstarter was the perfect place to do this. So we set a goal for $2 million and if the fans come in and back it, then absolutely, we're going to make this a reality. So, Sony and PlayStation are definitely a partner in this game, and it's going to be run through Third Party Productions with Ys Net. We're going to get the game done. We're going to be partners the whole way, and we're really excited to see this thing come out in a couple of years."
How the fuck are people mad about this?
To me this is an absolutely smart way to possibly see more risky titles or other possible genre games publishers have grown weary of in modern times to renew confidence and get big money backing it.
Wouldn't TLG be considered a risk?
It's a lot easier to sign a petition than to put up actual money. Kickstarter is a much more valid gauge of interest than an internet petition.
This is basically what Sony did with the Amplitude Kickstarter, and that very nearly didn't make its goal.
BASED SONY BASED YU BASED SHENMUE
Please point me to the Xbox version of Shenmue. Thanks.
1000 times this.He was going to do the Kickstarter regardless. And you should feel bad for him, the game was a financial failure on BOTH platforms it was on.
Both due to one tanking, and the other with a small install base and non Eastern game demographics.
I thought it was smart. You want that game made, you fans want it made, prove it.
And we did. Plus I say keep it open for the whole month, since we can get a $29 game that we know is 100% coming now.
This thread is a perfect example that humans will complain about anything and everything. I understand disappointment for Xbox gamers but for the other people, it's just cringeworthy stuff here.Beysus said:So the game wouldn't have existed if it weren't for Sony?
Let's complain about it!
I'm just saying, let's stop being disingenuous. If Sony JUST wanted to gauge interest, then that experiment is over. The interest is there. Cancel the kickstarter.
But Sony also wants the money from the people so they can spend less. Money that they possess as of this very moment themselves to use.
(For the record, before someone calls me out, I hold this opinion with every Kickstarter that goes for external funding, not just this one)
He's just speaking up for all those poor souls that have happily supported the KS and don't realize they are actually getting ripped off by putting down $30 for the game.
lawl?
Yeah let's go back to the true way, the one which lead to no Shenmue 3 for 14 years.Very scummy move, I understand why people want Shenmue 3, but they shouldn't support this way of business.
WHAT hahaha.Well there goes any hope for an Xbox version. Shame really since that's where the game started out.
You'd have to be amazingly dense to not see there was.....
They will provide breakfast 3 times a week.
People who are funding the game on Kickstarter are BUYING the game, they are not giving money to Sony for nothing, i can't see the issue here.
lawl?
Yeah because they're only donating $60, huh? Do you think that guy paying $10,000 for a jacket is in the same level too? They're abusing the fans' goodwill to partially fund the game.
When you're asking for the cancellation of a transaction I made, you're speaking for me.I never once claimed to speak for anyone but myself
Sony and Suzuki ASKED if us gamers will put our money where our mouth is at the conference, and guess what, we did.
lawl?
I'm so happy this isn't coming to the other console. Like I said many times before, the more PlayStation 4 exclusives, the better.
Well, I don't like this that much but it's good Sony don't see PC as direct competition.
Yeah let's go back to the true way, the one which lead to no Shenmue 3 for 14 years.

Kickstarter is generally used to fund projects that can't get funding through traditional means. However, can somebody explain the complaints over the use of Kickstarter?
Shenmue fans: "YES FINALLY! IM SO HAPPY!"
Some other people "I don't like this approach, feels scummy".
