Man, that looked boring
.
I mean, it looked 'nice' (even then, it looked like it was having issues running; reasonable considering this is still not finished yet, but point still stands) and it looks like it can be fun...but it looks so generic and bland.
Everything is grey and dark, the weapons don't look that unique (isn't that the point of this twisted setting?), and the gameplay really looks like a carbon copy of gears of war minus the co-op.
I loved Ready at Dawns work the the PSP God of Wars (hell, Ghost of Sparta is in my mind the best game in the series
) but....I don't know, maybe they need more time to show off more unique gameplay mechanics?
With their work on Daxter, CoO, and GoS they took existing games (Jak 1 and God of War 2/3 respectively) and made damn fine products with that mold. Here, they don't have a winning formula to work with; they have to make something all on their own.
Making Video Games must be one hell of a hard job, let alone original concepts, but if you are taking an existing one (Gears of War here), then spice it up with new features and innovations to make it specail and unique.
Tons of games do this like RPG's, Actions games, Platformers and so on, where they have a common gameplay mold but twist and turn it into unique products that can be really special.
With The Order....while it is still too early to tell (...the game might be delayed into next year like DriveClub
; Sony isn't afraid to reset or shut down half-finished projects...just look at Sigs game X(), it really looks like Order might be just another TPS.
That isn't a bad thing, notably if it is done very well, but new generation is supposed to be filled with really creative and new styles of gameplay to really set it apart from past generations. All we have seen so far is that games can look and run better.....sure, games like Infamous have shown that can really add to the game (I mean, just LOOK at those powers man
!), but there needs to be
gameplay innovations that can ONLY be possible with stronger hardware.
I don't know, but I hope this game looks better; love Ready At Dawns work
.
