It's disappointing, but I'm not shedding tears over lack of voice chat since I'm used to Skyping for Nintendo games now.

I'm okay with no bots in online, but I'd be quite disappointed if that's the same case for local multiplayer. Was that touched upon?

You can read the summary right there. That's all we know.

So...a lot of people jumped the gun here. I guess this means people are going to talk about this right? No? Drive by posting followed by large rants online for the sole purpose of making sure no one by this game over a misunderstanding? Again? Of course. I'm utterly shocked by this point.
Oh drop the victim complex. I'm still angry about this braindead decision.

I'm also not convinced that given this decision they would include other standard features that are vital for a shooter to foster a good community and experience like a party system.

If they have a party System in place, at least I can play with friends and use skype to make up for Nintendos paranoia.

Get the fuck out of here.

That was uncalled for. Especially from someone who's only contribution to this thread is "lol, Nintendo".

Edit: just to clarify, I wasn't being sarcastic about mumble or skype. If you play Nintendo games regularly and you must talk during games that's practically your only option. That's it. It's not like there is a surprise and suddenly they stopped supported voice chat.

I've heard from a few people on podcasts in the past that they're using skype even when playing on other systems.

One thing I will never understand is people being happy with less options.

I don't personally give a rat's ass about this seeing as I don't like talking to strangers in random matches (Like, 90% of the time it's not worth it. Didn't do it on my PS3, probably wouldn't do it on my WiiU), and stuff like Skype exists for the purpose of talking to my friends.
I mean...I might be upset if we lived in a world where competent easily accessible mainstream online chat programs didn't exist and there was absolutly no way for me to communicate with buddies in a match, but seeing as we don't I ain't too sympathetic towards people who curse other posters or the game devs out becuase voice chat doesn't exist in a game.

Yeah, skype or teamspeak usually in my experience. It's great for organizing even when the console is not on atm. Voice chat built into games really is only vital for communication with people you don't know, and that's just something Nintendo will surely stay far away from forever for known reasons.

Developers cut options all the time. Some of them might be important, others not so much. All of us are constantly happy with less options. Not necessarily because of them, but in spite of them. Every game has less options than they could have, and we are happy with them. You are happy with them, right now. Maybe not this particular game, but you are definitely happy with less options.
I think he means those who seem happy about a feature not being included. That is different than being happy with what you got. I dont see any reason to be happy about that a game is lacking a feature (or maybe if we're talking about tons of options that can be confusing), but being indifferent is something that i can easily see being done. I'm not going to care much if a feature is lacking that i have no interest in.

But outside of being happy despite a lack of options, there are numerous viable reasons to be happy because of less options. it might mean a shorter development time, less delays, less money spent by the dev team granting them all the more money for their next project, etc.
That is true, but are anyone actively happy about that though? I've seen people saying that all games doesnt need multiplayer for example, but i'm not sure that they are directly happy about it in that sense. I also havnt seen people being disappointed when things like voice chat, an extra game mode and things like that are being included in a game. It sounds like Splatoon will have voice chat between friends, and no one seems to be talking against that choice.

There's another thread for that.

You missed the tweet about the new site:
「スプラトゥーン公式サイトが開設!」との速報が入った。 これまで我々が調査した内容をかいつまんで掲載してあるらしい。 解明されていなかったタコ軍団の名前も公表されている。 これは心強い味方が現れたものだ。 是非チェックして欲しい。

thanks!

Need translation to keep this thread alive tho

I already did the jellyfish tweet. The other two are just about the site opening up and the new image showing how hectic turf battles are. (The image being the larger version of the boxart).

The only new info on the site that I can see is that the Octopus Army Corps are known as 'Octarians'.

Splatoon US tumblr actually updated.

Breaking news! In this crazy squid society, “coolness” is apparently a pretty big deal. So much so, in fact, that the shopkeepers won’t even give you the time of day if you’re not cool enough. Battle it up to make sure you’re as fresh and fly as possible before trying to buy the latest gear.

Participating in battles seems to be the key to earning experience and raising your rank. This rank is the yardstick by which your “coolness” will be measured!

From sandals to boots and everything in between, Shrimp Kicks has the hottest selection of Inkling footwear. With such a delicious…I mean, uh, professional-looking salesman, it’s no wonder the store is so popular! If you see a pair of kicks you like, snap ‘em up before they’re sold out!

This is Crusty Sean, the owner and proprieter of Shrimp Kicks. He’s got a mean shoe game and plenty of feet that he uses to model all of the hottest new styles. He might look like he’s fried to golden-brown perfection, but his breaded exterior is actually a slightly morbid designer jacket.

You may notice some jellyfish wandering among the Inklings in the plaza. Jellyfish are the second-most common creature in the city, but they can’t speak the Inkling language. “Oh yeah? Then why can Jelonzo speak Inkling?!” you might ask, rather annoyingly. Well, Jelonzo is a special jellyfish from distant waters. No one knows how he learned Inkling, but the way he botches the language is kinda cute!

New Tweet:

And translated:
This cat's name is 'Judge'. He's been a mystery for a while, but we're learning more about him. He has the ability to instantly distinguish the status of the entire turf war field, and it is he who 'judges' the winners and losers. Incidentally, what looks like clothing is actually a pattern in his fur.

I always wondered if the "faceship" line from Galaxy 2 was in the Japanese version or if it was a treehouse moment of genius.
