This. Sket Dance is missing everything that makes Gintama what it is. It's a hollow shell that Gintama fans should avoid completely.

I hope you aren't basing that on the crossover episode because that one sucked, especially compared to Gintama's.

Yamanobe episodes get pretty close to Gintama quality.

Having only watched the first episode of Gunslinger girl 2 to get a feel for the show I can only agree that the art style shift was absolutely jarring. I will have to explore the show further to decide if anything else took a downturn but I suspect it may have. The first is a llot to live up to though. It was a beautiful series.

When you go from the director of Card Captor Sakura, Nana, and Chihayafuru to the director of, er, Bubblegum Crash, I would expect a downgrade.

Looks like I'm marathoning Gunslinger Girls S1, this weekend.

Looks like I've finally run out of all the haremshit I started watching ages ago, yay me.

While true, I didn't expect it to change that drastically.
then again, the second series of Someday's Dreamers pretty much had a complete art shift as well from the very soft and airy artwork of the original.

This is a good idea. the series was excellent. The music in it is beautiful as well. The whole show has a slightly disturbing vibe but that's mainly due to the subject matter of having little girls be trained killers. It never goes into the realm of tasteless though.

That's a great choice. Gunslinger Girls is certainly one of the most notable 'good shows in spite of it's silly premise' in anime that I can think of. I mean, the potential for it to be a totally stupid failure are so apparent, especially within the real of anime, but the team at Madhouse that created the first season 1 really nailed the right tone and atmosphere. It's quite astonishing.

I still have the cloth art poster hanging on my wall. It is a really beautiful piece of work.
That series really stuck a chord with me. Like as if Leon the Professional was not only limited to that one girl but there was a whole government agency designed to create these types of killers out of young women. And then the realization of how cold blooded and inhuman they are when on the job, contrasted with how they try to just be normal little girls when they aren't working.

We've definitely reached the point where you're nearly much guaranteed a stream of every show. It's a good time to be an anime fan from the perspective of accessibility.

Yeah. There's still the occasional great show that slips through the cracks for various reasons, but you can rest assured that around 80-90% of new shows will be made accessible in a very short amount of time. There's been a pretty big shift even within the last year.

I have my own list, I like it better.

Are you going to share?
The last two seasons were pretty lame though.

Kind of, but only in comparison to (potentially) great seasons like this. I consider the last two seasons to be distinctly average.

A really bad (or lame) season might have only one good show in it, which has certainly been the case in previous Summers.

This isn't true at all. Just check out the OP.

Classy fanservice is best fanservice. Soredemo was Shaft at their most restrained.

Yeah, this is kind of bullshit. no season has ever only had one good show unless you have impossible standards.
Every season has had at least a handful of things worth watching.

Hey, he's just raising awareness for a show that is pretty much guaranteed to be better than most of the anime released in the last few years.

Wait, does Korra really need it's awareness raised any higher than it currently is? It's not like some niche shoujo airing on noitaminA.

Korra is going to sell better and be seen by more than all of the anime this season combined by nature of its exposure to the western world. That's one thing anime has never really been able to overcome.

I'm really curious to see how Space Brothers will turn out. I hope they can capture Mutta's weirdness and, in a way, laid back thought process.

I mostly use it as a list to determine who is watching the least anime.

I wouldn't assume that there's a direct correlation between the amount of anime people watch and the amount of posts they make. Lots of people are so rude that they watch anime without even bothering to write about it in this thread.

Unforgivable.

Summer 2010 suggests otherwise.

I just scanned through the OP and, while there are a couple skirt flips, they don't go high enough to actually see any panties. Typing that makes me feel like such a pervert.

I don't know. Looking back, Summer 2010 had Shiki and, uh...

I really don't know what I'm looking for in SpaceBros, but I'm looking forward to it.

I hope it isn't too laid back, but I'm not hoping (or expecting) jam-packed space action either.

I was very sure he meant those who post most watch the least.

I guess now is as good a time as any to watch Chihayafuru. I hope someone gets the Brennend Kryzel in this Falken game they're playing.

I know what I'm looking for in it; the majority of the show being based on the dog.

I hope the dog doesn't die.

.....and a brief moment of remembrance please for the single digits. I apologize on behalf of the entirety of AnimeGAF, for any mental trauma we may have caused.

I think the high number of people with a single post in the thread is far more interesting than the wall of shame.

I more meant that it seems like some of the people who post the most watch the least, which I don't mean as a slight in any way.

Gunslinger Girl -II Teatrino- 1-2

What have you done, Artland? What have you done? Madhouse established a beautiful, calculated world with the first Gunslinger Girl and now it's become this bright and moe cartoon that feels more like a low-budget Saturday morning special.

I'm sure this has already been mentioned before in past threads but I just have to post it. Season 1 (Madhouse) left, compared to 2 (Artland) right. The picture itself doesn't even do the disparity justice because season 2 looks worse in motion.

And now you know why everyone says to avoid it.

Midori Shoujo Tsubaki

Well, this was something.

what was it? I guess you could say it is the fucked up story about a young girl forced into life with a circus troupe and how she grows up dealing with it.
The imagery as you'd expect is gruesome and distrubing, but honestly, I must be desensitized because it wasn't the horrorshow I was expecting. Yes its really really fucked up but it could have been even more sadistic than it was.

the show starts out with Midori and her mother.
Midori's mother falls ill and dies terribly. Her father having already been gone. Midori had been selling flowers and doing what she could to survive up till the point where she meets a mysterious man. The kind of man who has a rape van with candy painted on the side.
Indeed, Midori ends up going through absolute hell. She
is repeatedly raped and tortured by very cruel circus freaks, and witnesses all manner of unpleasantness. She soon learns to live with those things and eventually has a seemingly decent existence.
One day, an
unexpected man shows up. a Dwarf who uses the power of illusion to great effect. He eventually takes over the circus with his power and influence. He also falls for Midori.
From this point on, a lot more weird shit happens, but I'll just leave off with a few thoughts:
This was a disturbing show with fucked up imagery, but it did make sense. It was to the point and not hard to follow, with the short run-time and only towards the end of it did it get confusing a little, although
its up to the viewers discretion how this actually ands and whether it was all an illusion by Midori or not.
Was this enjoyable to watch? not really. Would I recommend it? Well if you like horrific things, yes, but I honestly don't think this movie is awful enough to go on "the list".

I think the manner in which it's executed also makes it one of the few anime shows with a legitimate claim to the term "deconstruction."

You just forbade me to watch this and you return with a review!?

You and icarus are in cahoots!

Hmm, I'm not very sensitive to horrific things, but the premise doesn't seem all that interesting. Think I'll skip, regardless of my puny curiosity.

I hadn't seen it up till that point, but honestly I don't think you would enjoy this at all.
I do have to say I'd rather watch Midori than Eiken, because at least Midori has a story to tell, as fucked up to hell as it is. Eiken is just ridiculous fanservice shit that doesnt go anywhere or say anything.
