Star Wars Battlefront will not receive any Episode VII DLC

Am I the only one who likes that the game isn't crossing generations? I want all the same era uniforms, vehicles, and weapons, and consistency throughout all the maps. To me, it would be bizarre to have the existing content get merged with prequel/sequel maps with pre/sequel vehicles and a small selection of pre/sequel weapons cycling back and forth - and unacceptable if those ever mixed into each other's levels.

Have you played Battlefront I and II? They had OT and PT stuff, but were smart about it. For instance, you couldn't play Clones vs. Droids on the Hoth map since that doesn't make sense and you couldn't put OT soldiers against each other on Geonosis. Only planets that made sense in both trilogies would be playable for both.

Really hope they backpedal on that decision. Would have loved to join a battle like this:

Regardless of when they release it, it would be a money maker. However, I'm guessing that they're focusing on bringing stuff over from next year's Star Wars: Rogue One since that's set around/just before A New Hope.

I am curious who they add for the villains. I’d say IG-88 is a given. They could also add Tarkin or Bossak, but they are really boring. They could do like a Bull Rancor that would be neat.

Trying to think of potential heroes and villains here from the OT that would actually make a lick of sense.

Heroes:
Ben Kenobi (Slower paced Jedi, maybe more ranged abilities, mind tricks to turn one to your side?)
Chewbacca (Gives them the opportunity to have an actual decent Bowcaster in the game, plus he could have some strong fucking melee)
Yoda (Although I don't want him, as he'd likely be wielding a lightsaber, and the Emperors moveset shows they aren't afraid to pull from the prequels, so it's actually very possible)
Lando? (Probably the worst suggestion, if they armed him, he'd just be Han from a gameplay perspective)

Villains:
I'll say up front, I think the Wampa is the best suggestion, which is a sad state of affairs, so without Phasma or Kylo Ren, villains are slim pickings.
Basically any of the Bounty Hunters (All great designs, they're vague enough to make them whatever you want, gameplay wise)
Greedo? (Again, not great but I can't think of anyone other villains that actually wields a weapon -- also his race is already in the game, so he actually doesn't really work at all even from a design perspective)
Someone suggested Jabba, he'd be super gimmicky, but if he was a more static character, it could bring something different to the table.
Heck, he's not really a villain, but running around beating people up as a melee / tank Wampa would be dope, too.

Space battles. I expect at least one DLC being dedicated to them.

If they did a Death Star map, they'd basically have to do a space battle orbiting it.
I'm curious though, are you not satisfied with Fighter Squadron? You don't like ship combat in combat? Or is it you miss the BF2 mode where each team had a ship as a base, and you'd have to get in and out of ships crossing into either ships base to complete an objective -- because if it's the latter, I'm totally with you, but I'd be satisfied with it even if they just did that mode in-atmosphere on current maps (with some rejiggering of course).

Those red dudes from rotj should really be the emperors guards instead of the troopers, since that is their role in the movie(even though they never do anything)

I agree completely and I have a feeling that was the original intention but that they gave up due to the unwieldy nature of their cloaks and settled for red-striped stormstroopers as a compromise.

edit: the poster above suggested Greedo and I think he's on the money since Greedo is the next most iconic villain after Vader, Palpatine, Fett, Jaba and Tarkin. My new lineup prediction is R2D2, Obi-Wan, Tarkin and Greedo.

If you think they can only use battles that have been seen in the movies you are mistaken. They can do anything they want during original trilogy. Hell if they wanted they could do something on Kashyyk or that moon I forgot the name of which just had a weapons base destroyed on in the comics.

The game already lacks content as is. Adding prequel stuff right from the start would have bumped the value. How much can they milk out of 4,5, and 6?

Enough to sell you a season pass.

I know. Still don't get why. I mean if Kylo
walked in like that when he was going after Rey and Finn, it would have had a bigger impact than him just showing up to fight them

Disney's strangehold on videogame spoilers (nothing else though) is really strange. I remember Lego Star Wars coming out before Episode III yet having the entire movie playable.

Well, the final battle was one of the best of the entire saga. The antagonist chemistery between Rey and Kylo was absolutely amazing like anything else before (or Yoda vs Palpatine?)

I don't think that's the issue. Disney Infinity 3.0 is out right now with a ton of Force Awakens content. So much that some people jumped the gun and reported there were actual future spoilers in it, which isn't actually the case.

I think that's what everyone means when they say 'space battles'. Fighter Squadron is practically just Air Supremacy from Battlefield, there's nothing like the "two bases, different ships with different roles" thing from the first two games.

DICE/EA/Disney would have to let go of their strange power-up system if they wanted to do proper space battles otherwise it would just end up looking silly.

I think Jabba's sail barge would be a pretty cool "map" to fight on. So would the palace, with trap doors that dropped players into the Rancor pit.

I think it's safe to say it was better than Yoda vs Palpatine

yees because yoda and palpatine were "side characters".
The entire new trilogy will be the evolution of Rey and Kylo.

Star wars made it to look the final battle like Link Vs Ganon. That was awesome.

Ah, I completely forgot about that. That just makes it more odd that EA/DICE is so adamant that there be no VII content in the game. Is it just plain "we don't want to because new models"?

The barge is kind of half present on one of the Tatooine maps already, isn't it? Or some other very similar barge. Unfortunately it's tucked away in a corner of the map mostly as set dressing, it's pretty small scale, too.

Edit: On the left there.

With you on the palace though. Would welcome some tighter interior maps.

Not sure why this is a surprise at all.

Of course they're going to want to save the material for a sequel either next year or the year after.

So this basically is a official statement ala "We fucked up this game, but since we planned a sequel anyway, we keep all the good stuff for the next one"..
Yeah, great. I think EA just killed all my hype for any new Star Wars game they make.

If Star Wars is about technical stagnation, then Naboo Starfighters shouldn't look light years beyond an X-Wing fighter. It bugs me.

They don't, they are just cleaner. There is nothing in either the movies or expanded universe to suggest they are a technological step-up. The Rebellions fighter's have been in tonnes of battles and have been repeatedly banged up and put back together. The Naboo don't have an army, and their fighters are only used as escorts and don't see much action. It makes perfect sense if ye think about it.

So this basically is a official statement ala "We fucked up this game, but since we planned a sequel anyway, we keep all the good stuff for the next one"..
Yeah, great. I think EA just killed all my hype for any new Star Wars game they make.

OR, it's yet another statement that Battlefront is sticking to the original trilogy, which is what they have been saying from day 1. There are plenty of legitimate criticisms of the game, but this isn't one of them.

I really wanted to fly as a Naboo starfighter. Oh well.

You are welcome.

It's one of the most underrated games on PS2.

Keep all the good stuff?

I feel the opposite, I would rather this focus on the OT. Like they pretty much said they were doing all along...

How this thread just turned into spoiling the last movie ? Gif from a trailer and evocative sentences in response of spoiler tags. Well done.

But they DID focus on the good stuff here. You want stuff from the terrible prequels? Because the only other material out now is Ep VII and my guess is they've wanted that for the sequel from the beginning.

Where do people get all this stuff from?

Anyway, this was known just after the game released via an interview with a DICE employee.

It's nothing that isn't pretty blatant from up to the third trailer. It's just discussing the staging of the scene. I'm sure it's just tagged as a precaution. We're in a Star Wars thread, discussing characters and settings with potential from the last movie, we might mention the last movie, I'm surprised how tame those tags are considering your reaction.

I do want prequel stuff. Just because the movies were bad doesn't mean they should be forgotten in stuff like Battlefront. Not to mention Clone Wars is part of the prequels and it's awesome.

tbf when you don't know what's in those spoiler tags, it could be anything. I usually never go to the cinema (cos I hate people) but decided I wouldn't be able to duck the spoilers till the Blu ray release. Glad I did, as some 10 year old thundercunt completely ruined the ending in the Battlefront chat window the other day.

It is stylistically incompatible with the OT. The Sequel Trilogy is not.

I would be surprised if a second team isn't already working on re skinning this game with episode vii content to release it in about 18 months or so just in time for Episode VIII. People expected too much from a licensed game by EA I guess. Honestly it was still a LOT better than their past efforts.

Duh?

By the time Battlefront 2 potentially comes out in 2017 there will have been at least THREE new Star Wars movies released. There's your BF2 content.

That's the worst. Malicious aggressive ruining of films is the worst, although I've seen some outrageous displays of spoiler culture around the release of this film -- people claiming impressions from critics which basically amounted to a more elegantly phrased; "movie is good", or "movie is bad", is considered a spoiler now. Absurdity. I'd also suggest going to a movie theater early in the day, it's the most satisfying thing in the world. At least where I am, you'll maybe get another 3 or 4 people in a theater. Those are usually like minded people, going alone, simply to enjoy a film, it's great. Although with Star Wars, it's probably (unfortunately for you) packed in every session for the foreseeable weeks.

You don't have to interact with people in movie theaters lol, that's the strangest reason I've heard. Just sit in the corner by yourself and you'll be fine.

Yo, but fuck corner seating.

With the next Battlefield coming, I'd say this is highly unlikely. IMMO they will be releasing the Visceral game along with Ep. VIII

There's a bit more to it than that, but it's not about interacting with other people. It's about being present when other people interact with each other.

I mean yeah the sequel is coming soon but the brand isn't off to the greatest (re)-start. Some execs are probably regretting not having Episode VII content as a pull right now.
