Wouldn't happen but Clone Wars remakes of the prequels could actually be amazing even if they closely followed the original.
Anakin in Episode 3 would be infinitely better and more tragic for example.

Far too expensive just to do on a whim, and Filoni and co would never ever want to touch Lucas's work and change it like that anyhow.

For Star Wars the work of George Lucas is treated as the gospel in the canon that cannot be touched, and it always will unless they full on kill the franchise completely and reboot it from scratch. You may love the prequels, you may hate them but they are here to stay for good.

If they remake the prequels they gotta remake Jedi, too.

I mean if batting a thousand is what we're really talking about here. And it is.

If you seriously can't stand to think of Star Wars and KNOW there are bad movies in it (and there are, like almost every other film series that goes past a part 2) then you can't just stop at the prequels. They gotta remake Jedi, too.

(They're gonna reboot the entire fucking thing in the 2030s anyway. All of it.)

2030's is too soon that is only 13 years away, they already have a decade and a half of movies roughly penciled in they would want a long gap before rebooting. And there is a decent chance Lucas will still be alive and kicking in 2030 they would never reboot the entire franchise while he is still around. But overall yes, you are correct. Prequels are here to stay for good unless they scrap the whole damn thing and start over.

I mean do you see James Bond fans losing their shit demanding EON remake A View To A Kill because they can't mentally bare having it on their shelves alongside the other Bond films? Star Wars fans are so weird.

All this talk about the prequels being remade (even if, as far as I can tell, luckily nobody thinks it's likely): it's just not going to happen. They're not going to spend 6 years and spend millions of dollars telling that same story again. Not while they have the chance to tell so many different stories - even ones using characters/locations from that era, if they wanted. Especially because the reputation of those prequels already isn't great. It'll be easier to lure people in their seats with new stuff, and not confuse them any further with redoing some movies that already exist.

Yes, the movies aren't great .But I personally wouldn't be interested in seeing them again but slightly better. Just move on. I never really needed to know how Darth Vader became Darth Vader, and it turned out that story was kinda shitty. Would somebody else be able to tell that story better? Sure. But why bother? There's so much more they could do with these movies. I don't want them to waste the time to polish that turd, just focus on making new great stuff.

Also I refuse to believe Bobby's theory that it's all going to be rebooted anyway in 2030. Not because it's impossible, simply because I don't like the idea. Setting logic aside for that one.

Considering the staff she use to use it makes sense for it to be a dual

And it is not like they can really change the prequels, they are pretty limited what they can change due to The Clone Wars, Rebels, Rogue One, novels, comics, etc. They would have to throw out the majority of the new media they have declared canon to do it.

Anyone who thinks it is even a remote possibility has a few loose screws in their head. There is no logical path to remaking them without scrapping the whole damn franchise.

Nah. They're good thru early 2030. 2037 is the 60th Anniversary.

Watch.

And yeah, Star Wars fandom is so fucking neurotic and soft about holding their Ls. Nobody else gets to run for 20+ years and stay perfect. There's gonna be duds. So what. Roll with it like literally every other fandom does.

It's been almost 20 years since Phantom Menace.

To paraphrase a certain Dr. Jones: Let the shit go, Junior.

If you are getting close to 2040 I agree, that is getting closer. They will scrap the franchise at some point and start over from scratch.

They are going to get like 20 films deep and a dozen tv shows into this universe within a decade. They'll pull a Casino Royale eventually.

I'm pretty sure it isn't. She would burn her hand off if that was a dual saber.

I think they just gave her a pose with her lightsaber (still Luke's saber) based on how she handled her staff in TFA. Just one of the artists using reference material for a promotional thing that resulted into something that people are reading too much into. Nothing more.

It is 100% the Anakin/Luke saber.

She's holding the saber like that to keep symmetry with Maul.

Some people still act like the Prequels just came out. Like I don't get how someone could try and be in the fandom and act like that. They don't need to like the films but yeah, they need to let it go. I won't call anyone out by name but the fact that some in the Gaming side thread about Battlefront 2 were angry at the inclusion of the Prequel era just shows how petty they can be sometimes.

Prequels suck, and always will suck. Shouldn't be any mention of them at all tbh.

Buuuuuuuuut, remaking them is a bad idea as well. Just ignore them. Don't waste money trying to polish a turd. They ended 12 years ago. It's time to just focus on all the fantastic Star Wars movies, ANH, Empire, and the first 2/3rds of Jedi.

Guys how dare my Star Trek movie box set contain the weak Star Trek V: The Final Frontier? It needs to be remade IMMEDIATELY. I literally can't physically handle having bad films in a franchise I like.

Marvel Studios needs to de-canonize and remake Thor: The Dark World we can't accept the MCU franchise having bad media as canon. It is a crime against nature.

I lose sleep every night just knowing my beloved James Bond franchise has entries like Octopussy.

As we all know franchises we like must have only good to great films, otherwise we must demand the weak entries be removed from continuity and remade. Star Wars will have had 12 films and two tv series in continuity by 2019. I think you might be able to handle having 2-3 films in it you don't like.

It's so much easier to enjoy Star Wars when you can disconnect the quality of the prequels to the relevance they have on the overall story. Like, I can recognize they are bad movies and just not feel the need to watch them, but also understand that the stuff that happens in them and the characters there are important to what happens later. I can disconnect the drama and tragedy in Anakin's story and how that is relevant from the execution in the movies not being great. Getting to that mindset lets me get excited when I see Bail Organa pop up in Rogue One, or that a video game including stuff from the prequels effectively doubles the content it can pull from.

I know your joking but there are people who legit think that way. I remember the threads after Disney bought Lucasfilm, proclaiming that any day that Lucasfilm would de-canonize the prequels now that George is gone.

Or the people who insist that Lucasfilm hasn't made any Prequel-era stuff since the purchase and so on.

Yeah, I mean, the actual execution of the prequels missed in a lot of places, but the general lore and iconography of that era is some of the richest stuff in the entire franchise. There's so much that it contributed.

Yeah and that's why I get so frustrated sometimes when it comes to stuff like this. No one is expecting someone to have to like the prequels but that person should still be able to see and understand how much it contributed to the overall universe and why it's important.

First two thirds? You've got some explaining to do mister...

de-canonising the Prequels?

jesus. That's like EA buying Bioware-Pandemic and closing down Pandemic. A dumb idea.

Disney will ignore the prequels by just not making any new spinoffs that are too closely tied into those characters or situations. We've seen how Anakin became Vader and while it was partly botched, there's no point in a do-over.

C'mon guys this is a celebration. Let the dorks in the Battlefront thread argue about prequels lord knows we've all heard those arguments enough. So what're people expecting from the 40th anniversary panel? Perhaps a complete Clone Wars collection? As far as I recall you can only get seasons 1-5 bundled leaving out the film, the lost missions and the two incomplete arcs.

I hope we get...

  • The Kenobi Film Announcement
  • Hayden in VIII
  • Trailer for VIII
  • Animated Show after Rebels teaser

Hmm, seems a bit early for another animated show. I think with Filoni's Ahsoka teasing that perhaps he's working on a Siege of Mandalore standalone? That seems to be a big missing piece in bridging Clone Wars and Rebels.

Would be pretty amazing. We do see a little bit of it in the Ashoka novel but would be cool to actually see it animated.

It's weird how serious people take canon as if it means anything

I mean... It does. Canon means it has room to be explored further and as Rogue One shows, the ability to appear in the movies. Also considering they have a whole story group to keep everything in line and so things don't contradict one another, I think Lucasfilm themselves take it quite seriously. If they didn't, they wouldn't have washed away the old EU.

Filoni's been working on it for the last year. It might run concurrently with Rebels.

They don't blow their load in the opening panel. They don't do it like a E3 Press Conference all at once. It's spread out.

Any Episode 8 news and trailer will be in TLJ panel Friday. Animated tv news and trailers will be in the Rebels/Animated panel on Saturday.

It's almost like for a group of people for whom "lore" has taken on a ridiculous level of importance in both their gaming and their filmgoing, the idea of treating things as lore doesn't even occur to them.

No. It's gotta be remade because for some reason, every other film and game series in existence can survive just fine with a few clunkers tossed in the mix here and there, but STAR WARS must be pristine and perfect, and any blemishes need to be tended to. The people in charge need to go back and rework them, re-fix them, so that everything looks just right and how we've always wanted it to—

—heyyyyyy wait a tick. That shit sounds familiar somehow...

I think the biggest thing we'll get from the first panel will be something Han Solo related. Maybe announcing a new cast member or something, or a short clip of Ehrenreich/Glover talking to the audience. Maybe in costume. Not a trailer, not yet.

And then maaaaaybe a new spinoff announcement.

The rest of it will be talking about the history of Star Wars, hyping up the rest of the event, remembering Carrie.

—heyyyyyy wait a tick. That shit sounds familiar somehow...

Hah, I'll admit, never even thought of that. Cracked me up.

People hate on me all the time for liking the Prequel Trilogy. It was funny at first but now it's getting ridiculous. Why am I not allowed to enjoy it?

I also really want Hayden in VIII or if it's too late, IX. Guy needs another chance.
—heyyyyyy wait a tick. That shit sounds familiar somehow...
Now we're getting somewhere! Just gotta go deeper.

Filoni's been working on it for the last year. It might run concurrently with Rebels.

Hey maybe he's doing Underworld? I had heard they wrote around one hundred episodes so perhaps it's finally going to come out but in animated form instead of live-action? For the 40th anniversary it would be cool to see it finally happen.

I don't think the 40th Panel is going to serve as anything but a celebration of the Star Wars we already saw. I don't think any announcements for future shit will happen there.

maybe the title of the Han & Lando movie. But I'm getting the sense that panel's gonna be big fat friendly look back, not really a look forward at all.

I'm mostly referring to when people say to bring back the EU after it was wiped out. It's not like it's gone and the decanonization doesn't mean much. It takes something not real and makes it more not real?

I have to agree, just seems weird they have been like "YOU ARE GOING TO WANT TO WATCH THIS PANEL" and not announce anything.

I should probably say: I'd love to be wrong about all of this. I'd love for George Lucas to come walking out on stage to announce a new blu-ray set that's got the originals on it coming for Christmas, before throwing it to Harrison, who says he and Billy Dee are doing cameos for the Han & Lando movie, at which point a quick little teaser from the footage already shot is screened & the title is revealed, and at the last minute, John Williams walks out onstage and it's revealed the first three rows are actually AN ORCHESTRA and he conducts Rey's Theme and the Imperial March before Hayden Christensen walks out in the Vader Costume, pulls off his helmet, and tells everyone he'll see them tomorrow at the Last Jedi panel.

Yeah NO ONE should expect trailers or anything then. The big film panel is Friday. And then the big animated panel is Saturday.

They always do that for the opening panels, but nothing really big happens at them. Same with the live streams last two celebrations.

I've actually been talking about that with a friend recently. We both agreed a live action tv series is inevitable at some point, but probably not before the end of the new trilogy. Too much to figure out - both cost, quality - it's a lot to balance while you're also trying to build a 'new' empire with these new movies. They won't be in a hurry with that.

But yeah, if we reach that point in some years, how likely is it it'll be Underworld? Would they really go for something so prequel focused as opposed to something new, more closely related to the newer movies (or, hell, the OT, since that apparently never goes out of style). So yeah, we also figured it'll resurface at some point as books, comics, a game, cartoons, whatever, rather than live action.

-- at the same time, I don't think it's going to be Underworld. Probably something new, again aimed at a younger audience, just like Rebels.

Hasn't some Underworld stuff already been adapted in TCW? At least IIRC Saw was originally a character in Underworld.

They used some ideas, but not as replacements. None of the storylines were transformed into Clone Wars scripts or anything. Saw for example was used in Clone Wars to set up the character for Underworld (which, at this point, never happened of course).

I believe that cancelled 1313 game was also somehow related to Underworld, and Clone Wars also used some stuff from 1313 in their episodes for one of the Ahsoka arcs. Not content that was intended for the game and then repurposed, but rather to build a connection to that other project (that, again, never panned out. Like billions of Star Wars projects at this point).

I think the biggest thing is that people want to see those characters more. When the old EU died, all of those characters died with it. Mara Jade for example is no more and there will never be anymore stories with her. So I think canon can be important because those characters we get now can be shown in more stories.

If I remember correctly Underworld was gonna be predominantly inbetween the PT and OT but there was an interview with a dude who claimed to have read a script about Sheev as a young man. Seemed like an anthology show taking place all around the SW timeline. I think it could work as something appealing to a wide age group, animation for adults has been getting more popular lately.

I remember one year they spent all Saturday/Sunday hyping up your need to watch/be at the closing ceremonies for one very special, very big announcement.

Turned out the announcement was "we're having a convention in Europe next year" or something like that. That's it.

I mean, we're a day away from people frothing themselves like an Orange Julius over Good Morning America and people still wanna get caught up in the idea "Huge announcement" and "Major surprises" carries some sort of tangible weight, promotionally.

Welcome to the carny, kids.

That would excite people?

Of course it would. Especially at a fan convention. People there will pop for SYLLABLES uttered. They applaud at basic feats of human recognition. They're gonna pop for Han & Lando walking out on stage.
