In terms of art direction, this looks worse than Mario 64 to you?
That's not what people are talking about, in that, the art style's don't clash. In the NDC, they very clearly do.

I remember when i was saying that the switch would just be a Wii U level machine given how all the games in the trailer looked exactly like the wiiU counterparts and so many people jumped at me saying how that was crazy talk. Well, here it is.l think it's pretty obvious looking at other games like Splatoon 2 and Xenoblade 2 there's barely any graphical differences between Wii U and Switch games. Good old Nintendo.
So is this the size of the entire hub world? Because eh it seems pretty small.
Not an exaggeration at all. Mario really looks fantastic, and better than many of the good looking PS3 games. I mean yeah, UC3 might looks better, and maybe a few more, but not much else.
If it runs at 60FPS then especially what he said is not an exaggeration at all - I would be hugely impressed if the game is really running at 60.
That's one part of that level.

We're going to agree to disagree then.Yeah, and that worked, this clearly doesn't. No one's arguing that it can't work, it very clearly doesn't here.
Assuming you're talking about the city here... because they're supposed to?
Ever watched Space Jam?
I hope he goes to Hyrule for a level.
Why would they go for 3 if all past msinline Mario games have been 60? Dont worryNot an exaggeration at all. Mario really looks fantastic, and better than many of the good looking PS3 games. I mean yeah, UC3 might looks better, and maybe a few more, but not much else.

Odyssey might be 3D World on steroids. But its still much more technically accomplished. Look again at the reveal trailer for bothI remember when i was saying that the switch would just be a Wii U level machine given how all the games in the trailer looked exactly like the wiiU counterparts and so many people jumped at me saying how that was crazy talk. Having said that, I'm totally on with wiiu level graphics on a handheld but i think it's really bad if Zelda docked is 900p and 30fps with pop in and all these other issues. Like no way I'm investing 500 euros for that.
It seriously looks like those ugly ass unreal engine 4 mario 64 remakes we all make fun about here in gaf. How can you guys like how that looks?
I know what you main but thats the point. They weren't going for a cartoonish city if thats what you mean.It looks good as it's own thing. In the context of a game with all these different worlds there's definitely a clear inconsistency in art direction in my opinion. And it has nothing to do with there being different worlds. No game has more different worlds than galaxy but there's a clear line that threads the whole package together and just makes it look polished. This game looks very disjointed and some levels like the city one look boring and uninspired.
My opinion.

You guys realize Sunshine runs on a modified 64 engine right
Edit: And Galaxy/2, as well!
What indicates that this is the hub world?

I would understand the complains if most of the game was on the city, but its clear they are having fun with the different artstyles.
So you think they didn't had the other traditional Mario levels on purpose? That's a lot of assumption for someone who's not working on the game... that said, it still looks jarring and bad. Intentional or not. Even removing Mario from that city, it doesn't look good.
You can do different worlds and...
... stole my thoughts. Similar to how Disney Infinity, Kingdom Hearts, Smash Bros does it across multiple IPs.
But it's supposed to, they aren't redoing galaxy Mario is going to different worlds as in ones that don't like Mario worldsIt looks good as it's own thing. I'm guessing you are not a creative person or a designer.

anyone else think this a nod to the neverending story?
(the part of the book after Bastian goes to fantasia, aka, not the first film)
this is exactly who I picture graograman the Lion with bastian at night jumping on multicolor dunes (obviously without the multicolor thing in the Mario game)
haha are you fucking kidding me
I'm guessing you are not a creative person or a designer. This game is aesthetically way worse than any previous 3d mario game, even mario 64. It's not a technical thing, it's the art direction, it's just bad compared to those past games.
Maybe you plebs aren't creative enough to realize this garbage but me, a genius and your intellectual better, will educate you about how wrong you are.
Do you guys realize that you are living embodiments of dril tweets at some point
I thought that picture was relevant to Super Mario Land 1.

Ok. I understand if you dont the direction they are going for. I say its a step up in creativity and style from the 3D games but the Galaxies are hard to top.Maybe it's a sort of kitsch/crazy look they're going for, as that's what i think you are saying. But, if that's the case, then i would have used Wario for that sort of concept, for example, and really double down on that premise.
For me mario galaxy is the best game ever and this game just looks like a disservice to the franchise at this point.

Yes. I don't even know what I'm looking at. Crystal fruits? It looks like the engine bugged and the polygons got divided by at least 4, and textures haven't loaded yet. It's a mess.

Sonic Adventure is a game that has inarguably aged badly, but it is also the best 3D Sonic game in terms of trying and properly import both classic aesthetics and physical movesets (lol at Gens' "Classic Sonic" on rails bullshit), actually gave a shit about being creative in terms of utilizing various stages' locations to contextualize the level design, leading to a welcome variance in pacing and obstacles within a single level itself unlike every goddamn game since Colors, actually had some nice lore tie-ins, didn't endeavor to shit on and undermine both its own narrative premises and the audience's ability to engage, and frankly still has one of the best soundtracks in the franchise. All of this adds up to what was simultaneously great reception and sales figures at the time of release, performing better than S2 and S3&K in terms of the ratio of games to consoles sold...and Sonic 2 was a fucking pack-in (I know it's fun revisionist history to act like 3D Sonic has never done anything right until Colors, but still lol).
Throwing all of those good ideas away because it's a game from 1998 made to the more forgiving standards of 1998 has plagued Sonic just as bad as Sega's crap programming standards, and bullies like you are honestly no better than blind fanatics. Play Sonic Mania and keep the fuck away from my 3D games, please and thank you. It's bad enough I have to grin and bear Colors and how boring as shit it was just because it didn't endeavor to trigger people from the outset.
Ok. I understand if you dont the direction they are going for. I say its a step up in creativity and style from the 3D games but the Galaxies are hard to top.
I will just leave this here seriously there is a big difference.
I keep seeing this statement... that certain areas are out of place and don't match the other art styles. Is that not the point of this game?? It seems like you travel through a variety of worlds, universes, dimensions, etc. That and the city and forest look horrendously out of place.
