Tearaway Unfolded |OT|

Also the drawing on the pad is so wonky. You're looking at the screen, but you should be looking at the pad. And you feel like you need a stylus. Every shape pretty much ends up like random blob instead of a crafted one and then a kid immediately sticks it 40 times which is funny but not really what the game thought was going to happen.

For me, what helped with drawing is realizing that the drawable surface on the screen is mapped 1:1 with the touch pad on the controller, meaning drawing something on the top-right corner of the touchpad makes the line appear in the exact same corresponding location in the blueprint on the screen. It makes it so that I don't have to see the pad while I'm drawing, but it requires a bit of practice.

You can also connect a smartphone with the Playstation App downloaded to it to the PS4 and use the Tearaway companion app, which lets you draw on your smartphone and send the drawing to the game. I would that you/your kids will have a much easier time drawing that way (especially if your phone has a large screen and/or has a stylus).

I finished this tonight and fell in love all over again. The ending is so cute and touching. This is just an amazing game. I'm not sure if I liked the controls better than the Vita version. There was something really cool about having your fingers poke into the screen and stuff like that. Some stuff here, like the light shining I just didn't love. And drawing here just isn't as good (I realize I could use a second screen or something, but that is extra work I wasn't willing to do). But all the new content was wonderful. I forgot how there was actually some really fun and tricky platforming sections towards the end too.

I'd rate it out about the same as the Vita version, but maybe that is partly because it is hard to match that first experience I had with it, so with the extra content it feels about even. Still this is a must-play. If you loved the Vita version, you should get this. If you never played this, you should get this. I enjoy LBP and I look forward to MM's next game, but I really feel Tearaway is their best game and I'd love to see something more in line with that from them again. What a beautiful creative gem of a game this is.

I can verify that it's super easy to draw on a Note3 with the stylus!

I had to supervise my kids playing this because of two problems:

there is definitely more than one bug that requires a level checkpoint restart. If we found one in the first two hours there has to be more. (an apple dispensing machine wasn't running so no apple - nothing to throw). Plus at some points it is a mystery what has to happen next and I have to grab the controller off them and experiment systematically.

Also there is just a little too much stuff going on sometimes. Throwing things, throwing things into the screen, hitting targets, etc etc. It all gets just a little bit too much. The current goal is sometimes not really clear the first time round.

That said, it's delightful visually in many places and really a lofty goal media molecule set they just didn't quite pull it off.
Isn't their a mobile app you can use for drawing instead? Think it allows some additional stuff going by some tutorial messages but haven't tried it TBH.

There is the second screen app but tbh I have an uphill battle keeping the iOS games Under control as it is. Plus the second screen feature was a bit wonky, it times out often and I know if I hand over the phone or the iPad and leave the room they will start playing geometry dash instead.

they got as far as the ocean section today,

So the vita exclusive pulled from vita and put on PS4 with a lot of care and effort, only for it to be ignored again for once again Sony failing to advertise their own games? What a shocker!

Why would they throw money away on marketing? It's clear that the masses don't want this, so I'm glad Sony did it for those that do, but I don't expect them to go crazy on the marketing spend.

By eck, just when I thought I was getting towards the end another 6 levels have appeared.

I'm still enjoying it don't get me wrong, it's just going on for a lot longer than I expected. It's kinda refreshing knowing now I've given up on finding everything. I can run past confetti without caring.

What the fuck.

The new version of the pig riding music is so much worse than the original. This completely changes the happy mood of it.

My favourite thing about the original:(

I got pretty lucky, I wasn't really looking to pick this up but I was at a goodwill and they had it new sealed for $15!

It was labeled defective because the disc was loose in the case. No scratches, installed fine.

That's weird, my game also was loose inside the case when I got mine in the mail.

Between this and all the reports of screwed up discs, I have a suspicion that whatever facility was printing these games fucked up really badly.

My girlfriend loves this game, bought it for her cause she saw it and said it was cute. She played it for about 3 hours last night.

Couldn't get in to the demo. Just didn't have the same feeling aa the vita version did and actually made me want to replay the vita version for the little touches (like your face in the sun, fingers popping through into the world when you touch the back of the vita).

I had he same impression. Plus there were two points in the demo where bugs forced me to restart from the checkpoint so I could progress. For that to happen twice in such a short space of time doesn't feel good. But yeah in general I just didn't get the feeling I got from the Vita version.

Anyone know of any good guides for getting 100%? I've already spent like an hour searching for a red present and 10 confetti on maypole fields. Don't think I can do that for each level.

I couldn't find any guides. For that red present and 10 confetti
you need to have the paper airplane. They are on top of carousel, or the big thing that that level ends on
.

I 100% completed the game, so if I can help, I will.

My copy from amazon was also loose inside the case! Probably not a coincidence, it's the first time I've encountered that in years!

My shipped copy from Best Buy was loose in the case too. But I've not encountered any problems so far in the first 4 areas (Launch PS4).

Just finished this puppy up. Aside from a few things here and there it was a delight, possibly my GOTY. It's so rare to get a 3D platformer these days, so this was an absolute treat for someone who doesn't own a Vita. So sad this will never get a sequel :(

Finished it today. Forgot how amazing that ending is!

Most people just have shitty taste.

While true, the blame is square on Sony's court. They chose a release date that was very crowded (Sandwiched between MGS V, Mario Maker, and Taken King? Really?) and didn't advertise it worth shit.

The game deserves better, both this and the original Vita version. Amazing art style, charming presentation and OST, fun platforming, and some very experimental elements makes for a really fresh experience. Not to mention on a technical level it's an absolute marvel.

Man I really want to love this game, but I hate not being able to jump whenever I want.

Stick with it,
you get the jump ability really early in the game.
still I maintain its a weird decision for a platformer - seems to be turning a substantial number of people off here, and I'm sure many more consumers who don't post here, who stop before they realize it's just about to happen.

Or a smartphone, that everyone and their dogs have.

Not for the sun effect that he/she's talking about - that requires a PS camera. Might want to edit out the snark.

I do wish they had at least asked you to take a selfie with your phone and just put that static image for the You sun. Obviously nowhere near the novelty of having the live video feed, but for many of us who don't have a camera it would've been a nice alternative to a completely white image.

Having the camera definitely gives the game parity with the Vita version. The unfortunate thing is the camera's support. I'm sure there are more games, but I can only think of PlayRoom and Tearaway that use the video feed.

I picked up a PS Camera the other day. I mainly wanted it for ooVoo, but since that's not been added yet, I was on the fence. Then I remembered that this used the camera, and I bit the bullet.

Awesome! I'll continue trying it. Do you
unlock jump
before the demo ends?

Wahoo finally got it finished.

Truly, a superb game. I thought even though it started to drag on, the better levels were towards the end. I loved what it did with the motion sensor in regards to manipulating the moving platforms.

Bravo Media Molecule for making a great 3d platformer, my sweet beloved dying genre :(

Been heading back through to try and get 100%. Going pretty well so far. I do wish all cutscenes were skippable. That would speed things up a bit.

Has anyone tried the second screen on this? Really want to play it with my 6 year old daughter and wondering if the drawing stuff is constant to keep her interest for her to play on the Ipad whilst I play the actual game.

Edit NVM, just read like 7 posts above mine, sorry!

Finally was able to put a hefty amount of time into it last night and reached what I thought was the halfway point
(Crash Site)
. I'm really enjoying the variety in environments and the many opportunities they give you to customize Atoi's world; thank the gods for the companion app as drawing on the touchpad is rough.

Though I wish you had the ability to jump from the get-go, I like how they've rolled out the other abilities in the game, and how some will clearly let me be able to go back and 100% previous levels. I'm terrified of those Gopher escort missions though. The difficulty spike on those seemed incredibly out of place with the tone of the rest of the game; I even wondered for a second if MM was making a statement on escort missions in general. For those of you that have finished the game and done a few (or all) of these, are there some new abilities that are unlocked later that make getting the Misplaced Gopher from A->B much easier?

Nope! Some of the gopher escorts are harder than others, but they are still a hair-pulling experience.

The way I see it, though, the gopher escorts are heck of a lot better than the "Don't Die in X Level" trophies in the Vita version.

I actually think I'd have an easier time with those. It's not so much me dying as it is the dumb gopher getting kicked off the map/ledge by a scrap when I put it down since it agros enemies :\ Oh well. I like a challenge!

Finally started playing this yesterday. It's so damn charming, I'm going to buy the soundtrack off PSN. And maybe I'll actually get round to getting the plat this time round.

I wouldn't mind the gopher missions (or the don't die ones) if it wasn't so easy to get accidentally swamped by scraps and die, or simply stand in the wrong place and an opening door smashes you in the face and kills you. If he just went back to his original location I think it would be fairer - then it is just 'get from A to B without dying' rather than 'get from A to B without dying or restart the entire chapter'

I'm not that bothered though - clearly it is annoying, so I'm just ignoring most lost gophers (or I'll pick them up but not care too much when I inevitably lose them)

how does buying soundtracks work on psn? what file format and what can i play it on?

Good question. I got the OST via my pre-order of the Crafted Edition and just checked. It has an option to "Download Track List" and will copy the music over to a usb drive. The music is put into a 'MUSIC' folder on your flash drive and the tracks are 320k MP3s.

cool, seems good enough as I can't find the soundtrack anywhere else.

I wonder why games like this and Puppeteer are so niche these days, they seem like they should appeal a lot wider than they do.

It really saddens me. These games could and should be enjoyed by millions of children. They are perfect for kids. Parents are out of touch with gaming if you ask me.

This game is so freaking charming. It is beyond easy and it is really short, I am already half way after a few hours played. Really enjoying the environments and the use of the controller.

It is honestly nice to take a break from the realistic, gritty games the PS4 has to offer and play a title like this.
