Teen carries cross to White house

I have no real problem with this,it's definitely extreme, but whatever. My only gripe is when the kid says "I'm not trying to act like Jesus". Except for, y'know, carrying a giant fucking cross on your shoulders. But yeah, aside from that, not emulating Jesus at all.

aren't Christians SUPPOSED to act like Jesus? I mean maybe not literally like this kid but figuratively

SAGINAW, Texas -
A North Texas teenager armed with a huge cross and a good pair of shoes has accomplished his goal – to walk across the country and raise awareness about God.

Junior Garcia began his journey from Saginaw to Washington D.C. about a month ago. It culminated Friday morning with a prayer service near the White House.

His support system from Oasis Church International joined in via Skype as he prayed.

"Can't wait to get back home to all of you at the Oasis Church and I just wanna share this with y'all," he said. "It's just been a blessing. I thank you all for supporting me and standing by me. Just join us as we pray for our nation and our leaders."

Those at the church sanctuary in Saginaw said they were fueled by the teenager's incredible mission that started as a mere idea.

"Knowing we're right here and they're there, it's all God's presence. It's so emotional and it's great. I just hope the nation heard," said Donna Moore.

"It's not for political gain. It's for no other gain. He recognizes the moral decay in this country and what he wants to do is bring the attention back to the cross which is a message of love," said Pastor Randy Lemme from the Oasis Church.

If he's not getting nailed to the cross at the end what's the point? Jesus didn't walk across a country he walked across a town

When did America "get off the cross" or whatever is being implied here? Christianity is practically a bullet point on election ballots. We have to sit through endless religion based bullshit every four years just to elect 1 person to "run" our government. People can start running campaigns like this when we have a proper separation of church and state.

I don't see why anyone should be mad at the guy or whatever. The kid's not being self-righteous, he's just trying to correct what he believes is the moral decay of kids his age, among others. To him, this means focusing on the preachings of Jesus. You can mock him all you want, but I admire him. If teens in America, including myself, had half the gall and ambition he has, America might be a better place.

One thing seems off to me however.
His journey will also raise money for Speed the Light, an Assembly of God Missions giving program that will buy a car for a missionary in Mexico, Lemme said.

I really think the money could be put to better use.

I was hoping for a Chick tracts-like ending where Obama trembles in fear at the sight of the cross and explodes into a shower of money. The kid then slams the cross into the ground, which destroys the ground around the white house, causing it to sink into the flames of hell. A new church rises from it, with angels singing and Romney at the top, with a golden crown, promising to destroy free "everything" in America.

i pretty much agree. i hope he gets a nice book deal out of it for his efforts though.

If he doesn't have one already he will later. If you're familiar with Christian literature, aLmost anything is proof of gods divine providence and worthy of a book. The most famous one currently is the "heaven is for real" book where a child goes in for surgery and apparently visits heaven where of course he just vomits up everything he has heard in Sunday school. at least the parents in the book are fair enough to say that the kid is probably just full of shit and hallucinating, but of course they don't outright say it.

If I went into a coma I would probably think the world of warcraft was reL and I was surrounded by hooters girls.

That's just a picture of a dude with a wheeled cross, no idea whether the one that the kid's carrying has wheels or not. Just found the image funny and relevant.

Love the scooter.

Not sure why people are trashing the kid. I suppose since its religion its time to be condescending.

If someone was carrying a calculator to the white house for SCIENCE, you don't think people on here would make fun of him/her?

Really?

'Cause that would be pretty stupid.

Like this is.

As long as this kid or some supporter is paying for his police escort, go right ahead. But if tax dollars are covering a cent of this it is bullshit.

I'm also pleased this is being reported by Fox News.
