So after soloing basilisks last night for the first time with my archer (first fight was probably the most fun I've ever had combat-wise in an MMO) I got into a BoL run. Is that even a fair representation of group combat in the game at later levels? It was really disappointing. I feel like BAMs don't really work in a group environment, makes the combat completely static and mindless for everyone that's not a tank or healer.

What server are you on? Doesn't seem to be a lot of EU Tera players, so any gaffers I could play with would be great :p

Why do people keep saying this? They opened 2/3 new servers, Essenia has long ass queues after 1/2PM with a ton of guilds near the player cap. Does every MMO need to have WoW numbers or else it's considered small. I swear half the reason I see so many people from EU on the NA servers is because someone told them no one plays on the EU servers, in fact I spoke to 10 fucking people today who told me that they "read somewhere" that the EU version is already dead so just play on the NA servers. Maybe it's because frogster are running the EU servers and people are just making up bullshit to scare people into playing on NA but it's stupid.

No matter what I do, the injector isn't working when hitting pause/break

I copied the folder and contents to where they go with no luck

5850 w latest drivers

Yeah I really enjoyed it as well. I had a glitch on the starter island though where I killed the last boss solo but it didn't register the kill. Had to go back in with a group to do it again.

That's what happened to me. Killed the boss solo and the kill didn't register.

The same with my 6970, the only thing I notice when I hit pause/break is the text quality changes ever so slightly. Does fuck all to the gfx, it's all set up properly it's just not working.

so what's the point of helping people in this game? same quests with non-party players does not combine and go twards quest completion. this is a huge fail in my opinion.

i've had people literally standing still until i finished a mob off, and they would wait for it to respawn. in GW2 you can come in, help kill a mob, and it would go towards your quest completion.

i must say the animations in this game are awesome though

is what I'm getting when trying to log in. I purchased a digital copy online last night, couldn't log in. Submitted a ticket via their website but still no response from them. Is this still an ongoing issue? I downloaded the game during the open beta.

Anyone have the same problem?

You'll get more XP per mob kill and kill it faster meaning you'll finish quests faster. Other than that there's no reason to party with people who need to kill the same mobs but those two are pretty good reasons alone.

cool^

and does anybody know if the quests vary much from go kill x and bring back y?
i'm still on island of dawn but every quest has been the same save for repeatables.

it hasn't bored me yet since the killing is addictive, but just wondering if anyone else can shed some light

At level 22 currently, hasn't changed.

Man, the sheer size of the launcher download (24gb I hear? No way to tell from the launcher) makes me sad. It's been downloading all day with the speed steadily dropping throughout, P2P or not. Nothing quite as demoralizing as seeing the same "50m left" status for three hours because of steadily decreasing speeds.

E: Mmm. And now a "reliable source checksum error" message. Delicious.

You have to do more damage to Karascha on the IoD than the NPC for it to count as your kill.

If you somehow fail to do this, hit C to show your Character pane, go to the Instances tab, hit Reset Instances, and try again.

I'm in the same boat you are. Just built a new PC for this game and am having all sorts of issues. Been downloading the past 2 days and still at %50. Not sure if my modem is going bad or what but my speeds are terrible 8(

Was killing lvl 51 regular monsters as a lvl 48 and a lvl 50 enigmatic golden wand dropped. Didn't see any for sale on the broker so I put it up for sale for 450 g. Now when I returned it was sold, I wonder if I got a good or bad deal, haha.

Somewhat simultaneously better and worse is that I'm 4% away from completion and now checksum errors are coming up every minute or two after the download resumes (usually spiking to a sweet 1.5mb/s and then dropping down to 100-300kb/s).

Bleh! Was looking forward to playing tonight....

E: Yay! The download finished :)
Hmm... applying patch time ~20m? D:

Been eyeballing this game for a while. I'm not really a big MMO player. I played and loved Guild Wars and its expansions, played SWTOR and it was fun at times but I was not super impressed. Quests were mostly boring.

Not really a fan of JRPG stuff, but this looks really neat. Do you guys think I'd like this? How are the quests, varied or just the usual collect x amount, kill x amount, deliver x to y?

Quests are pretty much your standard "Kill 10 Jesters" or "Collect 5 Flowers" or...Well, you get the idea. But the combat is fantastic and makes it all worth it!

Duo'd Eldritch Academy with another Lancer tonight. Superb fun! Also, Lancer is not a solo class...But dual Lancers? A+

Kill x collect y (collection is automatic).

No courier quests beyond sending you to the next zone or whatever.

One or two escorts in some 20 levels.

Questing is more or less post-Cata WoW, but without the interesting ones to break up the monotony.

Combat system is really good, though it doesn't really feel that way until level 20 (only takes like 10-12 hours to reach).

My 360 controller isn't working properly. Everything works except the left stick. Not moving makes it kinda hard to play.

Anyone encounter this? Checked out the forums but couldn't find anything.

I'm up to... four, I think, in the span of a few levels--level 16 right now. Most are optional, but it's sort of weirdly like they're just going apeshit with the escorts right now.
Slow-ass Unicorn, Slow-Ass Fairy, Slow-Ass Peddler, Slow-Ass Knight Guy

Luckily they're optional and the combat is fun so it's not game-breaking, but they're leaning really heavily on the mechanic right now and none of the escorted seem in a particular rush to get where they're going.

What do you mean by static and mindless? You will be using certain rotations/chains throughout the life of your career in TERA; it's no different in a group setting, except that you will specialize your role and keep in mind those around you.

I think that BAMs are a perfect showcase of dynamic combat in groups, pretty much the exact opposite of what you said. I've been running through content with a Lancer, Sorceror, and Mystic (I am a Warrior). BAMs are the highlight of our journey. We run around, we kite, we die, we do stupid stuff, and we rock the face off BAMs as we learn their patterns and tells. I would describe it as the exact opposite of static and mindless. That's reserved for normal trash mobs.

You guys are eventually going to be swimming in experience. We're currently overleveled for where we are, and we skipped an entire area (we do intend to revisit it, as it looked beautiful). Definitely drop quests if they seem like a hassle.

Maybe it depends on the BAM, not sure. The big difference for me was that soloing one plays completely different than fighting one in a group setting. As an archer I have to save my backstep and the explosive ability/backstep at key times just to stay alive in the solo setup. In the group, I just adjust to get behind the BAM and nuke it at all times. There's no danger for me due to the range I stay at with no threat on me. I mean are there any BAM random aoe abilities or debuffs or specific events where anything special needs to happen? It just seems so straight forward, tank and spank at all times. That's boring.

Well, if you have a good tank and said tank is doing their job, then yeah, as a range class, you will be standing at a certain distance attacking. The tanks job is to keep the BAM/boss relatively stationary, so that will be your experience.

There are many BAMs/bosses that move around quite a bit, and have range attacks, leaps, and other special events such as clone spawning (we ran into that today with a boss).

As a side note, for Archers to do the maximum damage they can, you should be within 6m of the boss, since damage is scaled the farther you are, at certain thresholds. That's pretty damn close. So you shouldn't be sitting at 18m the entire fight. Well, you certainly can, but you can also certainly do better. I guarantee you that at 6m, you will definitely be moving around a bit more.

Edit: Another thing to note is that you don't HAVE to play with a tank in the party. The nice thing is that if everything knows their stuff, and knows the fight, you can get away with no tank (for the vast majority of BAMs and some bosses). A tank makes things easier, but you can always make things harder (but still doable) for yourself. If you really don't want some Lancer sitting there tanking all day, find a group without one.

Edit again: One last thing, then I really have to sleep. You might want to try other classes. The nature of some range classes is that they will be interacting less with most BAMs/bosses, because you have a little less to worry about when it comes to the melee attacks. If you really want something dynamic, try a Warrior or Slayer. They move around quite a bit, even in group settings.

Is it really possible to play "UIless" like in the screenshots? Would love to have a less clutered MMO like that. Or at least make the UI as basic as possible?

Also, can a controler replace (somehow) all main shortcuts for every command? Is it functional for UI navigation, button prompts, etc, or just good for battles?

I appreciate the feedback, thanks. I might take your advice and go a melee class instead. Which is the most mobile?
