The Simpsons |OT2| It's a pornography thread- We were posting pornography

I like this thread. It laughs with me, not at me.

The old thread was about posting images and gifs from classic Simpsons showing the visual charisma it used to have.

The new thread seems to be more about new Simpsons than classic Simpsons. We really need two threads in my opinion. One for the nostalgia of classic Simpsons, one for discussion of the show in its current form. The show has been on for 23 years so I think two threads are warranted, given how different the show is now compared to 15+ years ago.

Post things you like, scroll passed things you don't. It's like magic!

So I watched Simpsons for the first time in years. It's one of the newer seasons where Moe turns his tavern into a gay bar. A few laughs were had.

And to bring back an example used from the last thread.

The show is like Neapolitan ice cream to me. I watched a whole bunch of Simpsons fairly recently wondering where it jumped shark for me. Early season (up to 11ish) are chocolate. Then up to 17 is vanilla -- a notable decline in quality here and there, but still enjoyable overall and still worth watching. And then something terrible happened to the humor from even the first episode of season 17 on. It wasn't even vanilla anymore, it turned into strawberry.

But I continue to watch in hope of vanilla again. And sometimes a vanilla episode does slip by. The movie was. Though I don't expect to see chocolate again, I'm hopeful that whatever changed in season 17 will change back, and the series can some day go back to vanilla.

Seriously? Even back then I had only seen two episodes of classic Who and didn't know what the show was really about and I still knew who he was. The outfit is very distinct.

I only got into Doctor Who about a year ago. This is the first time I've noticed that. What episode is it anyway?

I believe it was the one where Sideshow Bob threatens to blow up the town unless they get rid of TV. The family visits an air show. And Bart doesn't wear any underwear.

I have the first 3 seasons of the Simpsons on DVD. At what season should I stop purchasing sets? I was told that season 8 was the last consistently good season. I haven't watched Simpsons since the late 1990's, but I checked out some recent episodes on Hulu and they were bad. What the hell happened? Did they run out of ideas, or was it a change in the philosophy of the writers. I don't remember them ever resorting to sight gags and slapstick for the sake of slapstick.

The writing team on the first few seasons were so subverse. It was like they were starving artists who were hungry to prove something.

If you can get them under 20$ per season the go all to way to season 10. Both season 9 and 10 still have some good episodes in them and the overall quality is not offensive like it is in the later seasons. As for the later seasons I really don't know what went wrong. Drop in quality was immense after season 10. Many of the best writers left the show but you still had some old timers on board. I guess it's Al Jean's fault. Not that Mike Scully did all that much better but under Jean's iron fist the show has become abysmal. On the other hand maybe the word show runner doesn't mean jack shit in the biz. I mean Al Jean did wrote some good episodes back in the day and even his latest episode was step up from that era's Simpsons.

I picked up Seasons 1-6 about 5-6 years ago from Amazon on the cheap. Sometime later I got 7 and 8 for cheap as well. Last year many seasons were discounted on Amazon for $13 each, so I rounded out 9 and 10.

I think I'm happy having seasons 1-10. Seven is where things stop getting better, eight and nine are where a very slow dip begins. Ten is still very good overall. I think eleven or twelve is where the more stark drop in quality occurs.
