The Simpsons |OT2| It's a pornography thread- We were posting pornography

It's really tough to top South Park for that. That Cartman-Scott Tenorman gif is iconic.

This might work. For my own feelings, at least.

TREEHOUSE OF HORROR III (AKA The Simpsons Halloween Special 3)

INTRO/BOOKENDS:

I do like that they've gone from pleading to apathy to straight up mockery of audience fears during these curtain intros. Probably one of the better framing devices, due to just how snappy it all feels. I never did the creepy food body part thing when I was young, though.

10076.gif

In this edition of "ToadT shows how little he truly knows about pop culture", he wonders and asks about gravestone gags that literally last for seconds on end.

CLOWN WITHOUT PITY
166382.jpg

Many people have covered this episode (Ooh, that's bad), and for good reason! This is, IMO, the best THOH overall, if not in the top 5 at least (That's good!). It does feel weird that Homer goes straight for the creepy shop first (That's bad) but it feels oh so right as well. (That's good!) The THOH's are well deserved silly breaks from the (comparatively) grounded show, and the characters should act as such. It's like seeing an acting troupe perform Avenue Q after a whole season of doing Henry the 8th. (...) (That's good.)

222021.gif

Love these scenes. Homer helping out Mini-Krusty is a quick joke that doesn't get as much attention as it should. (I wonder if that whole gay marriage reveal episode was a callback to that line?)

329211.gif
349581.gif

Did Whoopi ever complain about this? She seems like she'd be the type to take a joke. (Those phone hold song jokes are the best, I swear.)

394877.gif

MiniKrustyXMalibuStacy is best OTP. (Laughed as well at the failed story in between the two segments.)

474673.gif

KING HOMER
512761.jpg

Now i know the show had a sizable adult fanbase, even back then, but how the fuck did S&P not give a shit about this line? As stated before, the show had a heavy kid base, so I'm wondering why the censors weren't as vigilant as you thought they would be. (I guess it's just FOX being more lenient with content in general? You wouldn't find censors this lenient on Candy Apple Island.)

540789.jpg

Quite a bit of good jokes, regardless of your knowledge of Kong. I myself only have passing knowledge of the film, but even I could still laugh at lines like these:

729311.jpg
856238.jpg

Holy shit, Flanders doing something non-bible related! It's like he's an actual character or something and not the namesake of a TV Trope page.

916281.jpg

DIAL Z FOR ZOMBIE
933348.jpg

ah yiss. I'm sure most of the thread could quote this segment word for word given how god-tier it is, so I won't bore you by repeating great, yet overused lines. (Did you wreck the car? He was a Zombie?, Book Depository, etc...)

It's only later on did I realize just how many Waldo books there really are. (I did also chuckle at Bart not even finishing Baby's first Pop-Up Book and how the spell book was sponsored by Time-Life.)

956538.gif

So has anyone seen these shows? I saw Capitol Critters, and if THAT was any indication of the other shows' quality, then I dodged a fucking bullet.

1035884.jpg

I just love the absurdity of this line (And KZMB a few minutes later).

1139888.jpg

Really, there's not much more I could say about this whole episode. While other episodes have stand out segments, this feels like the most well-rounded THOH overall.

Clown: 10/10
King: 8/10
Zombie: 10/10

Found another Nintendo reference.

I was looking for the earlier part of the episode with Troy McClure as Noah but I couldn't get it to work. It was like,

God: Noah, you shall lock two of every thread.
Noah: Lock two threads...
God: Two of every thread!
Noah: Even NX threads?
God: Especially NX threads. (Strikes lightning)

I Wanna Be The Guy

U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
I had a dream I held the NX last night. It was really big. Wider than a Wii U gamepad and uncomfortable to hold. The detatchable controllers werr really weird too. It didnt seem very good. Im losing my mind.

Clown without pity is by far my favourite THOH segment ever, I just die laughing every time I watch it, the exchange between Homer and the shopkeeper, Homer bashing Milhouse with the door straight after, Grampa being really creepy (that clown is eeeeeeeevil!") etc. So many good laughs one right after another. King Homer is also really good, I find myself quoting that one quite a bit as well...

What if it was revealed that the NX was in fact, The Simpsons? Like, a take-home version of our favorite family?

TREEHOUSE OF HORROR IV (Aka The Simpsons Halloween Special 4)

INTRO/BOOKENDS:

They've exorcised the curtain openings this time around for a Night Gallery framing device. It seems they know that it's starting to get old. The graves as well, considering they made the same Elvis joke in an earlier intro. Even still, the graves still get some timeless bits:

21570.jpg

One aspect of the show's writing that I try to take note of when creating my own works is the research involved in subjects. In my mind, the staff seem to welcome all types of geekery. From Baseball geeks to rock groupies to art admirers. If you know a lot about what you love, then just spill your fandom all over the screen. The later shows in this episode and it's painting parodies. They could've just done the cheap way out and do original works, but instead they actively try to Simpsonize classic works.

THE DEVIL AND HOMER SIMPSON
84133.jpg

Ah, the days where you didn't have to wonder if someone drew this scene just to wack off to it. Thanks, Rule 34!

97012.gif

Deities in this show have seemingly slipped in how they were presented. YHWH was shown early on to be radiant, booming and awe-worthy, where as now, he's just the same as everyone else, without his face showing. Even Lucifer over here shows similar signs (As we'll see in later THOH's). For now though, take note of how he's presented. As both the sly personal tempter and the mammoth blazing tyrant:

170336.jpg
190206.gif

And even with these vastly different portrayals, he still gets a funny line or two.

240489.jpg

This is what I meant about the geekery. This is a straight up homage to one of Groening's favourite animated shorts of all time, Pigs Is Pigs. ( I do wish that there was even a quick visual reference to Life in Hell during this segment, though.)

284500.jpg

Phil Hartman was taken from us way too soon. (Unrelated to that, I now fully get the Regan joke that flew over me when I was younger.)

402618.jpg

TERROR AT 5 1/2 FEET

Little do they know that Series 8 is super in-demand due to being incorporated in winning decks in recent tournaments.

557439.gif

Hehehe, Computers.

624506.jpg

Another funny line. (Sorry if these aren't as insightfull, I just think the episode is... OK. Especially compared to the following and proceding.)

717182.jpg

Shout outs to the animation here. And to the great line delivery as well.

923838.gif

BART SIMPSON'S DRACULA
933231.jpg

I do love how they play with how oblivious OFF (And the other Springfield residents) can be at times with this segment. It starts out slow, then builds up higher and higher. A different change in joke pace from what the show normally does, and it works well.

948863.jpg

But you still have blink and you'll miss it jokes and scenarios that don't overstay their welcome:

1042290.gif
1090054.jpg

The line's funny by itself, but I think the frame I chose gives it an added zing.

1182230.jpg

And here's the best ending to a THOH ever.

1314028.gif

Overall, this was a great THOH. The middle part wasn't as funny to me, but the other two make up for it in spades.

Devil: 10/10
5 and a half: 6/10
Dracula: 10/10

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm heading on to... that building place where my bed and TV... is.

Currently watching 'Guess Who's Coming to Criticize Dinner' and forgot how much I enjoyed the episode. Especially the ridiculous dessert description that is used.

This one is inspired by all the NX "Leakers" out there on Twitter. If they had legitimate insider information (the ones that claim to have insider sources), there's nothing stopping them from corroborating with a major media outlet that has been in contact with industry insiders to reveal info about NX that would have more weight to it than mere speculation.

Thinking of writing a essay about gender stereotypes using marge? Any episode suggestions?

I also need a complete opposite female character of her from a different show.

Marge Gets a Job and The Springfield Connection are the obvious recommendations. Two episodes featuring Marge entering a predominantly male workplace.
If you want to juxtapose her against a different woman, I'll go outside of the Classic era box and advocate Season 16's She Used to Be My Girl.

Of course, that's still within the scope of The Simpsons.
If you want to take a different female from a different show, might I suggest Leela from Futurama. They're pretty unique contrasts with one another.

what exactly are you looking for?
marge being stuck/forced into the household-mom-role?
contrasting situations where marge tries to be herself and does something else?
marge enjoying doing mom-stuff?

TREEHOUSE OF HORROR V (AKA The Simpsons Halloween Special 5)

INTRO/BOOKENDS:

69552.jpg

Of note, this is the last time (to my knowledge) that they do elaborate intros like this. So this category may be scarce in the future. I know for a fact though that this is the last curtain intro, as well as the last tombstone gag.

30146.gif
7

I was actually taken aback when I learned that this movie doesn't even exist. If concocting a totally fake yet believable western isn't genre awareness, then nothing is.

THE SHINNING

111260.jpg

This THOH has so many great gags, I probably won't be able to list them all. So instead, I'm going to call to attention smaller things, under-looked gags and great bits of animation. The Shinning in particular has a lot of them, especially if you're a Kubrick nut. I'd even argue that it's the best parody of his work... ever, in all honesty. (Better than the Clockwork Orange spoof later on at the very least)

185668.gif

I can't count how many times i've learned of or heard of something just because it was referenced on the Simpsons. It's s trait I absolutely want to carry on to any works I make.

233015.jpg

And I just got this joke on re-watch. (I also liked the meta line of not wanting to be sued, but that's been talked about a lot already.)

308007.gif

The delivery of this line kills me every time. (Also, was Burn's line about Coke bets supposed to be a callback to THOH II?)

364096.gif
380996.gif

We never get animation this good on the show anymore.

536735.jpg

Ironic considering this THOH's credits.

TIME AND PUNISHMENT
542608.jpg

Another all time classic that's been quoted to death. I'm not going to beat this dead horse, per say, but I will rough it up a bit.

615848.jpg

An example of what I meant by learning? I bet you this was the greatest exposure Peabody and Sherman ever got before the Dreamworks thing. It probably was the first experience to the characters for a bunch of kids.

640706.jpg

One of my life's goals is to say this at my future son's wedding.

754203.jpg

Another line where the delivery is everything. Hank is killing it in this episode.

871937.gif

top10saddestanimemoments.jpeg

NIGHTMARE CAFETERIA
965163.jpg

Not as beloved as the other two, but still pretty damn good.

994776.jpg

I noticed that the pale sick kid (Forget his name) is in detention as well as in Edna's class. No regard for continuity, 0/10 Worst. Treehouse of Horror. Ever.

1124022.jpg
1136034.jpg

Another plus I can say about the old writing staff is that they're self-aware if they made a lame pun. In this example, they work off it to move the plot along. Later on, it feels like they dwell on lame jokes longer than a Conway Twitee joke on Family Guy.

1270635.jpg

They've been around the trick or treat block a few times by this point and have firmly established what THOH's are supposed to be. So why not play with your expectations a little?

1313511.gif

I do have to give credit to Clausen and the rest for the soundtrack during these THOH's. Often overlooked, they reach a glorious zenith during this ending credit scene.

Shinning: 9/10
Time: 10/10
Cafeteria: 9/10

It's either next week or the week after. Or possibly the week after that.

I just hope when it is revealed "The Homer" wont be the appropriate pic or gif to post...

I'm sure we'll get a demonstration trailer that is as cool as the Wii Remote reveal. That one was amazing at the time.
(I'd hope, honestly the Wii U Gamepad one where they had a family playing it was poorly scripted and unappealing.)

So the last episode was quite fun. Good usage of 'Virtual Reality'. Shows that the show can still be really funny in its 28th season.

We're never gonna get Simpsons on bluray, each season on 1 disc :(
You'll always have Seasons 13 through 17 (and 20) on BluRay.
FOX can never take that away from you.

I agree with you but you need to save those comments for the Season 28 OT. They'll be considered blasphemous around here.
