It was an open secret that KING Art was working on Black Mirror 4 and that it was to be shown at gamescom, but now it's officially announced.

THQ Nordic announces a new game: ”Black Mirror" is scheduled for release this November

August 16, 2017

A new adventure from the famous, spine-chilling franchise will be released on November 28, 2017 on PC, PlayStation®4 and Xbox One

Vienna/Austria, Bremen/Germany: 16th August 2017 – THQ Nordic is thrilled to reveal its new project: Black Mirror, a Gothic horror adventure, due for release on 28th November 2017. The game will be developed by the Bremen studio KING Art Games, known for ”The Book of Unwritten Tales", ”The Dwarves" and ”The Raven", and will be available on PC/Mac/Linux, PS4 and Xbox One.

Black Mirror - The Brand
The game name may already exist one way or another, and no, we're not talking about the Netflix series. The first part of the creepy adventure series was released in 2004 as ”The Black Mirror", which produced two more spin-offs, ”Black Mirror II" (2009) and ”Black Mirror III" (2011).

But don't worry, even players unfamiliar with the previous games in the series can also enjoy Black Mirror, because this reboot of the franchise tells a totally independent and new story. The major difference between the new and old Black Mirror, apart from the modern graphics of course, will be a new gameplay element: interaction with vision-like apparitions.

THQ Nordic & KING Art
”One of the outstanding features of the Black Mirror game series is the unique atmosphere which was essentially created by KING Art in the original trilogy. We have developed a new interpretation that both retains the strengths of the original games and gives us more room to explore fresh possibilities in terms of gameplay so that players can experience the world of Black Mirror in a more direct and free way, and not ”just" in classic point-and-click style." – Martin Kreuch, Producer at THQ Nordic.

”Black Mirror is a series that is really close to my heart, and it was fantastic to be immersed in the Gothic horror genre again; the human psyche is a fascinating playground!" – Achim Heidelauf, Producer ”Black Mirror" (2017), Director & Writer ”Black Mirror II" (2009).

”Black Mirror II" (2009) was the first big adventure KING Art worked on, and it's fantastic to be able to create the new world of the Gordons and Black Mirror. We will be emphasising the unsettling atmosphere and the meticulous detail that the fans of a Black Mirror title have come to expect." Jan Theysen, Creative Director KING Art Games.

Gamescom 2017
A playable demo of Black Mirror will be ready for gamescom 2017 for both industry and public visitors to try out, and the THQ Nordic Stand (A011) is in the Entertainment Area in Hall 8.

Really looking forward to seeing their post-apo kung-fu game.
This is the most I've ever been hyped by a press release.

First game was alright, never played the sequels, I think, for some reason. Modern graphics is probably a stretch but who cares considering Thimbleweed Park turned out to be the best adventure game in a decade with its almost '89 art direction.

So, this is an adventure game like Money Island or a choose your own adventure like Telltale games?

We'll have to wait for gamescom, but this quote makes me think it might be different from both:

Character design seems generic and kinda boring. That's all I can take from this since I've never played the old ones, but lets see what they bring to gamescom.

The impulse reaction to the screenshot was Cryptic Graves lol, but that trailer has me something hype

Give me all of your pretty horror games I NEED THEM

Edit: oh, it was point and click? Ehhhh it might still be good

.

The disappointment is real.

Aye.

TBH I'm surprised he hasn't made one. You could easily wrap a Black Mirror style story up in a game and he's an ex-games journo so...

Anyway, no doubt this is a very annoying digression for people that care about this game so I'll shut up

Was horrible, bummer, i hoped for better developer for that cult classic franchise 😞

Really, how so? I've never played them myself, but the reviews and impressions I've seen (both from critics and users) all seem quite positive. Of course that doesn't mean you have to like it, I'm just interested in why you don't.

A gothic horror adventure game is still pretty good though. I'll keep an eye out with this one.

I think it is high time I played the original games.
I should have them on Steam or GOG.

I think I even downloaded all of them at one point to do just that.

Never did of course >_>

Lame humor (jokes often "borrowed" from other classic adventures), mediocre puzzles, bad pacing (running around in same locations over and over again), it was a big relief when i finally finished it. But yeah, user reviews is generally positive about this game, maybe its just me.

Buy games from THQ Nordic at your own peril. Their re release of Darksiders 2 is straight up broken. I experienced 7 crashes within the first hour of gameplay until reaching a section that constantly crashes making me unable to progress through the game. Shit is inexcusable. On top of that the menu and port job is as barebones as you could possibly get. Certainly doesn't instill much confidence in their technical prowess or ability to release a compelling product by any stretch. Buyer Beware.

OMG I loved the first Black Mirror even though I never finished it. I need to go download it again and maybe zip through it with a guide or something.

This is excellent news. THQ Nordic keeps on winning.

Never even heard of this series, is it worth going through the old games on Steam?
The first one became pretty famous in Germany back in the day because it and Runaway let to adventure games looking popular again for a short while in the early 2000s. It's not a bad game, unlike Runaway, but I remember something being wrong with the English version -- maybe the voice work was horrific or it was buggy, I don't know. Steam reviews will probably tell you the whole story.

They're a publisher not a developer.

If a game is broken it's not due to THQ Nordic exclusively.
