Trine 2 in 3D on the PS4 is incredible

Sony should really be pushing for that all games can be played in 3D. Imagine that, I'm sure it would pursued many gamers into buying the console since it will be the only system doing it for next-gen.

They just blew a huge opportunity IMO.

It didn't work for the ps3 so why would betting on 3D work now?

I'm really tempted to buy that Playstation 3D monitor now for this game, SSDHD, Ico and UC3. It's dirt cheap nowadays too, ~$160 refurbished. What's stopping me is that from all accounts it's a flawed product that dies after few months of use due to crappy PSU. There's hundreds if not thousands accounts online complaining about same exact issue, even after 3rd or 4th replacement.
I paid $100 for it.

I regret paying that much for it, take that as you will.

Seriously, this game is simply an incredible experience in 3d. Its simply gorgeous. I really wish more game have a 3d mode, especially as most games on ps4 are in 1080p. They should be able to get them at 720p.

This is one of the few games that I'd get for all the platforms I own, they're currently working on the Xbone's version.

When you play in 3D, you have to sacrifice quality. Since most PS3 games ran at 720p max, this meant you had to play 3D games in sub-HD resolutions and/or choppy framerates.

Most PS4 games run at 1080p, so there's still enough power to render a clean 720p 3D mode.

Neither does the PS4 from the looks of it, 720p is a poor resolution and i reckon it's not just the hdmi component holding it back.

It's rendered internally at 1080p, which means it is running at 1080p in 3D, it's just outputting at 720p, it's like the opposite of XB1 CoD.

Trine Any game is almost hard to play or watch in 2D after playing it in 3D. As impressive as the graphics are otherwise, 3D takes it to a whole new level.

I really hope more devs actually make an effort to use 3D moving forward.

oh my, how very warrior like of you.

When they obviously haven't got their shit together when it comes to firmware updates, yeah i'd say Sony is one of the drawbacks, biggest problem with the ps4 is that it apparently did not launch with most of the things the ps3 could do though that has little to do with this thread.

I really wish I hadn't bought the Wii U version. Not that it wasn't a great game as-is, but I'm sure it looks much better on PS4, which I also own. I don't want to re-buy it so soon, though. Hopefully it'll be free on PS+ at some point.

I need to try this in 3D. Shame tvs can't do more then 720/60fps 3D, that being said with all those games running native 1080p which is more than twice the resolution, getting 720p 3D should be more possible across the board at least than the sub-HD 3D last gen gave.

If they intend to sell a VR headset they're going to need Devs who know how to make 3D games.
Whatever VR solution they come up with can only be a good thing for 3D gamers, as adding VR/Rift support should automatically add full "normal" 3D support at the same time. So if anything, we'll hopefully see a boost in the number of games that support the feature.

Why should the PS4 support a mode that TV's can't support?

720p is fine, it still looks very impressive, better than 1080p 2d. The catch is the glasses and a drop in your contrast ratio. The make or break feature in 3d is your frame rate. If you aren't hitting 60 the effect is pretty average, which is why ps3 games looked average at best.

To be clear 1080p does look leagues better than 720p in 3d, but 720p is still very nice to look at. The frame rate is far more important than resolution in 3d and is what really sells the effect.

Yeah, but Devs aren't going to automatically know how to implement proper 3D. Even when Nvidia was pushing 3D Vision hard games that were supposed to be 3D Vision Ready had glaring issues like 2D crosshairs and mismatched reflections. PC games that aren't developed with 3D in mind are usually unplayable without Helix Mod. Even then they aren't perfect and it doesn't work for every game. If Sony wants people to adopt their VR solution they need games and the best way to ensure they have them ready as soon as possible is to encourage Devs to build games with 3D in mind now so most of the work is already done by the time they need to implement VR specific code.

The demo sold me once I tried the 3D. I always have the depth set to max on my TV and in the game. It looks so amazing. Lots of foreground and background scenery, and the set pieces are so good that many stages have a really epic feel to them. Played the whole way through the first time in 3D. So damn cool. The gameplay was what I expected, and enjoyable, but the 3D was the hook for me. I was on the fence before. Another example of a demo doing its job. Oh yeah, the reeolution would be my only complaint. However, 3D at 720p looks better than 2D at 1080. PEACE.

^yeah this is pretty much how I feel too. I thought it looked great before but I'm definitely getting it after playing through the demo. Thoroughly enjoyable and gorgeous. Need to try it in 2D as well but it was an amazing experience in 3D. Imagine it to be a lot of fun in local co-op too.

What's crazy is that the game would display 1080p/60 in 3D if HDMI allowed that, as they internally render it at that before scaling to 720p output. Frozenbyte guys were saying that if PS4s firmware is ever updated to allow for this, their game would do it automatically (not sure if TVs also have some kind of firmware limit when it comes to this though).

1080p60 in 3D? Impossible... even PS4 isn't strong enough for that, even when Frozenbyte said otherwise.

Having played a lot of games in 3D, I can attest that Trine 2 is definitely eye porn in 3D at 1080p/60fps + SweetFX.

*sigh* I really wish 3D gaming was cheaper and gained more traction, it really makes games look amazing.

There's actually a boost in perceived detail/resolution with 3D but I can't remember what the effect is called.

HDMI limitation is the issue of the game not running at 60fps at 1080p its same issue if your were to run the same game via HDMI on your pc.

Oh wow you're absolutely right, I actually played the demo long ago but never tried it with 3D on, I somehow thought 3D would halve the framerate.

We're playing it 3 coop on a 50 inch panasonic gt60 ,sitting close enought to completly fill the FOV,and it's a really amazing experience.
You just want to touch that miniature world with your hand , catching gobelins or flowers...
Completly fogetting that we are actually sitting in front of a tv.
The included add ons and extensions are even more gorgeous ,so it's very worth buying .

I wouldnt mind experiencing this, but I already have Trine 2 on WiiU, and with the touchpad use, along with already owning 4 or so remotes mostly from the wii, for multiplayer and only 1 DS4, I would most likely still play it on WiiU.

Sony ain't interested in pushing 3d now.

That's not to say the technology won't be included; it is. 3D support for games remains included in the system's capabilities. However in the words of Sony's own Shuhei Yoshida, "it just won't be as much of a focus as it once was."
Speaking to IGN after the official PlayStation 4 reveal, Yoshida stated:
"It's not a focus. But it does do it better. The basic capability is higher so more games will run at 1080p at 60 frames so it's an easier and better experience when you watch on 3D TV."
"3D was a big thing a couple of years ago — we made it a big thing because it was lead by the consumer electronics side of Sony and we liked what we could do on PS3 using 3D stereoscopic," Yoshida said. "But now the consumer electronics side of Sony, or all of the companies have shifted focus from 3D TV to something else, so if they're not talking about it, why would we?" The PS4 was rumoured to have an Oculus Rift like product in production specifically designed for the PS4, but nothing has been comfirmed.

Running the demo for this game on my ps4 reminded me that my benq w1070 supports 3d since the game asked me if I wanted to turn it on lol. Now to find some glasses to see how 3d works.

It would also prepare them for VR too since VR uses pretty much the same thing as 3D.

So whether it's Oculus or something else
