So, pro-business is fuck everyone else, and then eventually most businesses not too long after?
I can't even defend multi-millionaires who think it is wise to deregulate wall street. They are nothing more than idiots who bet it all in a casino.

The United States is currently as pro-business as it can be without resulting in irreparable damage to the economy, consumers and the environment. I don't understand how anyone can be so blind to deny that.

Especially with the Great Recession being so close behind us. It's like watching someone poking their eyes out to help themselves see.

It isn't surprising because he's a bold faced lair, but Trump has gone so far in the opposite direction of actually "draining the swamp" that it's almost comical.

Why the fuck not. I also anticipate MC Hammer's appointment to the Office of Touching This.

Fantastic.

Version 2 coming soon.

Hope you're happy, Bernie or Busters.

Maybe the democrats should have elected to go with the guy that was polling far above Trump and had very little to no negative press against him and was even praised by Trump rather than the person who the majority of Americans disliked and was the prime target for Trump to rip apart at ever moment. And maybe Hilary shouldn't have become so arrogant in assuming she was a 100% getting into office.

Cus Bernie polled SO well with PoCs which were pretty much the only people keeping Clinton afloat in the election because white people.

I'm guessing it has a lot to do with:

--Hiring practices and accommodations (aka - equal opportunity employment; meeting certain quotas, having ramps and dedicated parking for the physically disabled, etc...)

--Safety regulations (aka - OSHA forcing you to buy everyone safety helmets and pay for their training courses)

--Environmental regulations (aka the EPA forcing me to remove X chemical from my products and using more expensive Y chemical because of toxic emissions)

Pretty much any regulation that costs extra money or forces a business to pay for any sort of accommodation for the greater good will be targeted.

Because, Trump don't give a fuck.

I mean we know that, but what he means is that the legislators never say any of those things, because you can then follow-up with "you mean you would allow XYZ dangerous chemical in baby formula so it's cheaper?"

It would've been cool if people voted for the Democrat that was nominated, too.

Not sure the "Gingrich" label was needed.

He was polling higher than Trump because the GOP slander and propaganda machine didn't have its shadowy gaze fall on him yet. If Bernie was the nominee:

"A socialist Jew who wants to turn America into the next nanny state! Do you want to give the presidency to a commie?!"

He would have been destroyed, and it would have been easy.

Historians are going to look back at the Trump presidency as one of, if not the must corrupt presidencies the US had ever had.

This is not necessarily bad. Chairman Mary Jo White was another lawyer with a history of representing Wall Street banks before becoming a regulator.

"An orange racist, sexist, fascist narcissistic serial woman-assaulter who fawns over Putin and wants to kick out minorities and register Muslims and nuke countries!"

Ultimately it doesn't matter to a lot of people what labels are applied. Bernie was a fresh breath of air and while he might not have won (it's all hypothetical) this isn't the slam dunk argument you think it is.

Seriously, Jay Clayton is one of the most reasonable picks that Trump has made in his campaign.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
"An orange racist, sexist, fascist narcissistic serial woman-assaulter who fawns over Putin and wants to kick out minorities and register Muslims and nuke countries!"

The issue you don't really take on though is that the people who supported Trump didn't give too shits about what he did in the past or did on the campaign while being incredibly hypocritical about slamming Hillary for every little thing. That would have been what Bernie was going against if he were nominated and while who know's if he could have swayed working class white voters, I think he would have had to put up with a mighty smear campaign and a group of voters more than willing to buy into it.

I was under the belief that anything that would have seemed slightly socialist was a big no-no politically in America. That being a proponent of social democracy would alienate you on a national scale. I mean look at how vehemently people riled against Obama care, and that wasn't even the sort of single payer system Bernie was advocating. Throw in free tuition and his point blank statement of support for Black Lives Matter, Fox/GOP would have had people terrified of him.

Drain the swamp and fill it in with Wall St.

Will totes be better for all those working class rust belt dipshits that voted for him.

I'm done feeling sorry for that demographic, they reap what they sow. I'll reserve my pity and donations for the minority groups they fucked over even worse than they fucked themselves.

Well The US got played like a fiddle by a cheese business man from a 80's movie. "One of the most advance democracies of the world". All US citizen just got Shanghaied in a 4 years or plus of a bad trip with Cliff from Back to the Future. At first I feel fear and terror from your decision as one of the "most advance democracies of the word" now I just feel bad and sad for you. I wish you the best, because you seem like you are falling fast and hard as a Nation that became the laughing stock of the world.

It's Biff, not Cliff. And I really hate to tell you this, but if we're going down, we're taking a pretty good chunk of the global economy with us. You can point and laugh, but just make sure you realize your umbrella has holes in it. And based on where you're at, don't think you're immune. The far right is on the rise across the world.

The only positive will probably a temporary bull run in the stock market for coming years. Benefitting the people at the top, obviously. Make money while you can! My investments have increased quite a bit in the market upshot since Trump won. The coming year might be a bit of a silver lining.

Of course, deregulation means an inevitable crash, so this will be short lived.

We don't know Jay Clayton's politics. He works for a very respected firm too.

I think panicking about this particular appointment is a bit premature.

Luckily I have a 401k so I can cash out as the market peaks without any tax issues!

What? Wall Street and the IRS structured it so that's precisely what you can't do?

Oh. Thanks. i guess I'll just have to rely on my pension... what? Those don't really exist anymore?

Well at least Social Security is safe under a Trump administration!

The issue with financial regulation is that 95%+ of people who have the knowledge and understanding required to regulate have gained that knowledge from being in the industry.

You just have to choose the person with the right character.

I don't know this particular person but if you believe that there arent strongly ethical, strong individuals who want the industry to improve then you are just as bad as those who think everyone is good.

Edit: to clarify, I am only addressing those who think banker = wanker. If he is corrupt then he shouldn't be hired.

That's great for you. And I like that you admit that this is going to benefit the people at the top. Because it is.

So tired of these people cheering on Trump, pretending that this "pro business" administration that Trump is going to set up is somehow going to benefit the American workers or the poor. Nah. Where in the world would anybody get the idea that Trump and his ilk has ever cared about the people they use to make themselves millions and billions?

Maybe Bernie should have actually campaigned in the south instead of relying on "I matched with MLK once and have Killer Mike on stage with me". But instead he completely wrote off PoC in the south as a lost cause and doubles down on his white voters.

Hm, what does everyone bitch about w/ Clinton? That she ignored the Midwest?

Seriously Bernie and Clinton fans whine about the each other's candidate failing to do the exact same thing. Like can both of these groups just shut the hell up; Jesus Christ a bunch of fucking whiny bitches.

Call me petty but I can't wait for this to ravish "real" America. This is what they asked for and this is what they'll get.

Correct.

This thread, along with 95% of threads on financial related topics, is filled with a lot of uninformed opinions based on headlines.

She was the Chair of Litigation at Debevoise which is one of the first firms you call if you are in finance and getting into trouble. She led the team that defended White Collar criminals. Why wasn't everyone up in arms about this?

Regulators and the law firms are typically a revolving door. In one position, move to DC then back to practice with more prestige.

The issue with financial regulation is that 95%+ of people who have the knowledge and understanding required to regulate have gained that knowledge from being in the industry.

Correct again.

They make policy to benefit the company/shareholders. Leadership sets the direction, and who does trump serve?

There are mornings that I don't wake up with the re-realization and awe that Donald Trump is going to be the POTUS

This was not one of those mornings.
