I already forgot like half of the meaningless one-off batshit things that happen in this show/movie, including the angels

BACK TO TWIN PEAKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

hXZXVVF.jpg

David Lynch writing the script to the next episode?

EDIT: Wait now that I see what he's drawing, isn't that arm/hand the one Dougie drew on the insurance forms?

EDIT2: Just checked. Not sure where I got that from, he just draws ladders and stairs.

You know, I think Lynch is a fan of self deprecating humor.

He first is able to create the image of mystery and sophistication in one episode...

and then in another episode he makes a nidicolous comedy skit with one of the girls hitting the boss while trying to kill a fly, totally shattering the glamour vibe he previously set up.

The bump in ratings didn't last according to this.

At 9pm, while “Game of Thrones” was eating TV alive, “Twin Peaks” lost the viewers it had picked up after Part 8. Part 9 was so dreadful that everyone who sampled the show based on good reviews for Part 8, left. “Twin Peaks” scored 264,000 viewers. More people live in my neighborhood.

For comparison, GoT had over 10 million viewers while "Power" on Starz had 1.7 million.

According to what? There's no source there.

Petty shitty paragraph wherever it is from "part 9 was so dreadful", erm...?

Anyway, no one should really give a shit about ratings. TP was done regardless after this season.

Twin Peaks would definitely have to be a record holder in terms of streaming for Showtime at this point. Wonder how the merchandise stuff is going for them. I know the vinyl repress that Mondo did for the seasons and FWWM did well.

I'm more interested in seeing Part 11's ratings what with the time slot change and potential signal boost from the SDCC panel+screening on Friday. Curious why they didn't bother changing it already for the GoT premiere.

Wait TP is changing times? To when?

One hour earlier than before, so 8pm EST. Not sure how that goes for markets outside US though.

edit: Hmm TV Guide is showing regular airing time for next week, perhaps it's further down the road.

Jesus I must be having a Dougie moment, could've sworn reading about it switching times, can't find a thing about it.

edit2: It starts airing at 8pm EST on August 6:

On Sunday, September 3 from 8 to 10 PM, Showtime will air the two-part finale of the new Twin Peaks. The jump from 9 PM to the 8 PM slot happens earlier, on August 6, due to the season 5 premiere of Ray Donovan.

Well I love Lynch and am loving Twin Peaks but it is not for everyone.
However I am not thinking I will remain subscribed to Showtime when it goes as the only other show I like on there is The Affair.

Nah, Lost is a classic despite its flaws. Easily the twin peaks of its day and spawned many lesser imitators

I scoffed, thinking you were a delusional, but you are totally right.

If Lost were cancelled after season 2 like TP, it would have a completely different afterlife as a LEGENDARY show. Now it's in that weird Limbo from the last season, stuck between people who still stump for it and people still salty at the ending (like me).

Think I'll binge all the parts over the course of a few days once they're all available and then cancel after that. Thankfully that'll give about a month anyhow left on the sub what with the finale airing on 9/3.

Anyone know average time for TV seasons ending to blu-ray release? Imagine it might be different for this depending on what features they have planned.

edit: I don't know what's real anymore...

We live inside a dream

Is there any evidence to suggest this post-air viewership ratio is different from other shows? I'd imagine plenty of people also watch GoT and Power on DVR and streaming.

The point of my post was that a vast majority of the views for TP episodes does not happen when it airs. I have no clue if the ratio is the same for GoT, though I'm skeptical because GoT is must-watch-as-it-airs TV due to rampant spoilers.

With that said, why does it matter? Was anyone expecting a 25yr old show with a cult classic following to go toe-to-toe with Game of Thrones? I love both, and even I chose GoT over TP at 9pm, for the aforementioned potential to be spoiled.

5-7 months or thereabouts seems to be the norm. Judging by the past releases from Lynch, it might end up getting just some interviews at best, but who knows.

So it'll be on an hour before GoT starting with Part 13? I'm fine with that. Get the slower paced show out of the way first each week. Watching GoT first last Sunday was very jarring.

It doesn't have to matter at all, it's just interesting data to pore through every week. But the responses about DVR and streaming numbers as some kind of rebuttal has to at least be corroborated with some evidence. Obviously a number of people are watching Twin Peaks through alternative methods, but so are viewers of all of these other shows that beat it in live ratings.

It's like comparing sales of a console in one region with the sales of a console worldwide.

Ratings are meaningless. The show's been booked for a run and it'll run through to episode 18 regardless of performance.

Sadly you're wasting your breath Zanzibar.

Once the thread has been derailed with ratings bullshit, the conversation will shift back to issues with Chrysta Bell's performance before finally returning to active discussion about the narrative itself on Sunday and Monday.

Dynamite Shikoku

Congratulations, you really deserve it!
Dougie coop is the worst character from any season of twin peaks. It's like watching a dog sit and stare. And we've had it for weeeeks now

I like just about everything else in this return season (even though I feel it's not twin peaks really) but Dougie scenes are excruciating

Dougie's in Vegas, just 60(ish) miles from the Nevada nuclear testing zone. After part 8 this fact has to have some relevance to the story, surely?

Portal in the desert?

That's assuming Rancho Rosa is real of course. The only thing to escape that bubble so far (I think) is the hotel key, which I wonder about being the Mulholland Dr. blue key of this story.

Also - photos coming back from the NY Box Room, but nothing of Coop passing through shortly before the murders?

Dusk Golem

A 21st Century Rockefeller
I actually like the Dougie scenes. 90% of the time Dougie has other characters with him mostly doing the talking and such anyways, and yes while none really quite respond to something being wrong with him (though we got more on this more last part to why many are more accepting of this and some characters teasing him on his braindeadness) they I think help fuel the scenes and make Dougie amusing for how he's inserted and pivotal to many of these scenes despite being essentially mostly braindead yet still capable in a few fields.

Lost was a lie. The ending has nothing to do with why it's reviled and hated now, it's because the producers and writers kept lying to their fanbase and had no idea where this was going.

It only had the illusion of being thought through in the first seasons.

"The ending" is jar jar binks. Everyone hates how it all turned out and you can't point your finger at why it's so bad since it demands so many plot holes to be detailed, so many people just blame "the ending". Like they blamed jar jar.

I don't care about answers. I just want Coop back, but i think by this point i will have to come to grips with the fact that it isn't gonna happen and he will stay a vegetable until the very end.
At least Albert provides the goods.

I tend to stay out of discussions and the like (I do lurk Twin Peaks forums and such), but this show has me gripped like nothing else. I can't get enough. I love every episode so far. I think it's safe to say if you're not into it now, you never will. I'm actually surprised to see how many people dislike episode 10, I thought it was wonderful. Richard is a grade-A dickbag and I love it. Can't wait to see his comeuppance. I've loved Lynch's work for years and years and rewatched everything he's done in ther last few months (except Dune) so I suppose it's no surprise to see I love the new TP.

I can see this show being talked about for quite a while.

Janey-E though... is the E like a middle name? Or is it an abbreviation for a hyphenated name? Like Janey-Eve? Janey-Ellen?

I'm a Millennial but yeah it's really baffling to see so many people in here moaning about Lynch "wasting time". I'd love to see these people watch The Straight Story. They'd probably kill themselves halfway through. You guys have to realize, if there ever was a director that personified the idiom "it's the journey, not the destination", it's David fucking Lynch. Cool your jets and enjoy the ride.

Back on topic to the show itself, episode 10 was probably the most like Twin Peaks that The Return has felt for me so far. Despite the focus of the episode being mostly on events in Vegas, the Sandie thing and in Vegas and the stuff with Chad back in Twin Peaks felt like the kind of soap opera plot lines that played second fiddle to the Laura Palmer case in original Twin Peaks. The kind of stories that are designed to be drawn out and go nowhere for weeks while also piquing your interest and keeping you guessing.

The whole thing with Sandie and the Mitchums was vaguely reminiscent of S1 Twin Peaks and the Hornes. The Mitchums and their casino are pretty much exactly the Horne brothers and One Eyed Jacks. The Michums are a little less plotting and more direct, but their about equally ruthless when you think back on it. Even the bit with Sandie reminded me of Audrey Horne. Audrey completely wrecks the Ghostwood deal for Ben and Jerry and there's zero repercussions, despite Ben and Jerry being bad men, and Sandie smacks Rodney right in the face with the remote and you get the same thing, nothing but maybe a little yelling. I actually noticed when going back and watching the first time we see Sandie and the girls, she's kind of spaced out with making a kind of wave-like motion with her arm that reminded me of Audrey when she's dancing to the jukebox. Honestly, you could argue there are a lot of parallels with the Vegas story and S1 of Twin Peaks. Both center around land, a fire (the mill and the casino/building) and insurance fraud (insurance policy on Catherine in S1, on the building in Return). If the Mitchums are the Vegas Hornes, does that make Duncan Todd the Vegas Catherine Martell perhaps?

Do the end music scenes mean anything?

I am 90% sure now that when these come on I am going to turn the show off.

A lot of people seem to hate-watch this show. It's bizarre.

"I hate Dougie! Why is there music at the end? This is nothing like the old Twin Peaks! It's insulting to the fans! Chrysta Bell is an abomination! The ratingz!

...I'll see you next week when I watch my eleventh hour of it and head here to type my displeasure"
