This is why third parties will always return to Sony, even if their platform isn't what gamers want. Especially considering the majority of the DS software number consists of solely of Nintendo-made games.

I bet the software figures for NDS don't include Maria Kart & Nintendogs bundles. Those bundles have had huge sales & if added would substantially boost the software figure.

PSP line up are mostly PS2 ports & there is a near consensus amongst the informed gaming community including most unbiased gaming journalists that DS has a much better games than PSP. :D

ds's shitty lineup has more to do with its awful hardware design, imo. it has some strong gba-style content, but almost anything that attempts 3d or touchscreen use is worthless. not that any one factor can fully account for the ds's poor software!

Hay guys, guess what? I like the DS library way more than the PSP's. Go back and read what I first posted.

My point has nothing to do with the quality of the games.

Its very hard to tell with you gafers whether some posts are sarcastic or not, I'm guessing that since this post is complete bullshit that it is in fact sarcastic. Very funny drohne, good one.

That's pretty impressive considering how many more months the DS had on the market.

Then again, the DS didnt get any shelf space and it IS Sonyland, so it could go either way I suppose.

Interesting numbers. PS2 is amazing.

In Spain similar situation: ps2 well well well ahead from xbox and gc (specially in terms of software.). Xbox 360 had a nice fall (software sales where good and also its tie-ratio). Nds has sold more hardware than psp, but speaking of software (total numbers) psp is well ahead.

I know. Children like games too. Its a terrible state of affairs that games based on popular children's entertainments sell well.

(PS see every other best seller chart - worldwide, not just for games - to see exactly the same....)

EDIT: I know fifa street isn't "children's entertainment", but i'm not letting that get in the way of a good rant...

Seems a bit odd given that that was the number of launch machines in the uk.

Well, it did sell out. I expected something around that figure. It's super-easy to get hold of one now, though.

Yes, but there were at least two shipments after that (I got mine in amazons third batch) so I would have expected it to be more like 200K

DS: 0.95m

N64: 1.90m

I bet by the end of this year, the difference between DS and PSP sales WW will be more than 11m units. Kudos to Nintendo

Of course, NDS bundles are there... and I think that's why nds tie-ration is smaller... but I don't know if this is good or not.

Jokeropia

Good or not? It simply means that the actual tie ratio is higher than the numbers suggest. I believe the software sales have increased this year with Animal Crossing's onslaught as well.

Sony didn't start 'proper' bundles until 2006. Those bundles wouldn't be counted as the software is included in the SKU. The 'forced' bundles they put out late 2005 were included in software sales because consumers were forced to purchase retail titles along with their PSP.

12.3:1 only for tie ratio? Man I'm obviously subsidying at least 3 others people to get that ratio.

You forgot the best part...

Hardware
GBA 0.55
DS 0.95
PSP 0.81

Software
GBA 3.42
DS 1.85
PSP 2.92

...as with PS2 in 2000, it seems backwards compatibility has stunted launch year DS software sales. Most UK owners were probably buying Pokemon Emerald or Sonic Advance Collections this year. Looking at PS2 trends, we probably won't see DS fully take the lead until 2007.

reminder said:

Only when it's bundled post manufacturing, like with Pursuit Force or World Tour Soccer. PSP's UK software sales were artificially swelled by post manufacturing, Sony authorized bundles early on, both these D list games were consistantly charting in the top 40 thanks only to launch window hardware demand.

By comparison the DS bundles for Nintendogs and Mario Kart were post launch rush, at the manufacturing level and alongside a gameless hardware SKU... so not only would they not show up in the software charts, but sales were likely due to value/game demand rather than just wanting to get new hardware.

I cant really recall anything from last year sorry.. But there were three batches December last year? How many each batch? Thanks in advance.

I`m not sure of numbers. But there were the launch machines, then a small second batch after a week, then the batch where I got mine on about the 16th December. I think MS were just shipping them in as fast as possible, and Amazon just happened to be restocked twice before christmas.

Anyway, total DS hardware sales are 0.95m so you just have to ask Gaybrush what percentage of those were bundled with a game.

I don't think it'll be more than 0.3 or 0.4m, we add that to the total software and we get like 2.1-2.2m soft for DS. (This is guesstimation, powered by ioi :D )

12:1 ratio for PS2 is pretty amazing, its only 9:1 according to shipments for Europe. UK is making the difference for more pirate countries like mine I suppose :lol
