Oh. So you were just being a wise-ass when we were obviously talking about fiscal years and not calendar years. Congrats internet warrior. Gold star for you.Oh boy...
Look, March is always the end of a quarter. No matter if you look at fiscal or calender years, end of March is always the end of a quarter...
Hence my reaction to the post saying he "believes" end of March is the end of a quarter. But apparently that ia not as well known as I thought.
Sure and I truely didn't mean to be rude but the concept of quarters is actually the same for fiscal and calender years so it really is straight forward.
Huh? Doesn't change a thing. Quarters still remain the same, depending on the fiscal year it might be the 4th instead of the 1st but still the end of a quarter.Oh. So you were just being a wise-ass when we were obviously talking about fiscal years and not calendar years. Congrats internet warrior. Gold star for you.
Depending on the country the fiscal year can deviate from the calender year but the end and start of quarters remain the same, it's just the order that can change (see above). That's fair, I used to assume that but I thought I'd seen instances where a company's fiscal year ended in the new year/spring and not in December. I wasn't sure which is why I used the phrasing that I did.
The way Druckmann is describing it, the delay is all about avoiding an Uncharted 3 situation where setpiece to setpiece transitions make no sense. For the players, game delays are almost always a good thing. The only one it's a real shame for is the publisher, for having to readjust their Holiday earnings projections accordingly.
We're just going to get a better video game, is all.

This is obviously unexpected. Neil Druckmann must be coming up with new ideas and he wants to have more time to implement them in the game. Why even announce a release date in the first place?
Oh, don't get me wrong, I assume PS4 is going to win the top spot for holidays WW. It wouldn't even surprise me if it took the top spot for Holidays NPD. I was mostly responding to the "3 times as much", which in hindsight might have just been a figure of speech.
Well, it's true that Halo 4 didn't make Halo 3 numbers (both in sales and online players, etc) but I'd wait for Halo 5 before officially declaring that the series peaked at 3. I could be wrong, of course, but as I've said before, Microsoft has never failed to push Halo as an entertainment event of great magnitude. I see no reason to think it'll be different this time.
edit: I guess Halo 5 should prove whether it was really Bungie that made Halo what it was, not the Microsoft Marketing Machine. It'll be interesting.
Seems like nearly every big Sony title gets delayed this gen so far.
Microsoft is probably quite happy about the delay.
I think P5 is safe, it was a 2014 game before the PS4 version was announced IIRC so it already was delayed for a year.
The problem for MS is they practically have to give the thing away during the holiday period, for them to 'win' November and December but then they're losing the other 10 months, so all those crazy holiday deals are ultimately futile.
As for Halo, the FPS genre hadn't become so over-saturated on the console side when 2 and 3 came out. At some point series fatigue has to kick in, given the number of titles released under that name the last 6-7 years. It will move consoles, but to what degree I can't say, probably not as much as MS hopes or those generally rooting for xbox to succeed. I doubt it moves the needle enough for Sony to be concerned and really, releasing a ps4 slim at $299 or even $349 in time for xmas 2015 will knock some of the wind out of Halo 5.

Ouch.
Take your time. Too many other titles to play this year.
Seems a bit early for a PS4 slim. Do we have anything approaching confirmation that a slim design is coming so soon? Otherwise, I agree with your general analysis. No doubt Halo 5 will move consoles but the question is how much. And, of the 2 consoles I'd say MS is the one that needs a slim design to really reinvigorate sales. They need to cut the size of the thing down by a third at least.
We have some leaks and rumors: http://gamerant.com/ps4-slim-leaked-design/
I thought it was confirmed as fake.

Sony hq must really be disappointed ND couldn't make the holiday deadline Perhaps they saw how bad the Order was received and decided to change up some gameplay.
The guys at Xbox HQ be like:
Meanwhile over at the Quantum Break delay thread ...
Placeholder date. Bloodborne had the same date when it was first announced. I believe March 31 is the end of a quarter.
Did Druckmann and Straley fire the entire team this time?
SE lost hard with this one.
There goes your big gap on PS4, and now when Tomb Raider is predicted to release on PS4, U4's gonna release.

A price drop/bundle on the current design, perhaps with a couple minor tweaks, would most likely be good enough. Otherwise, I agree with your general analysis.
