Visual Novels Community Thread | A Little Something for Everyone

Danny Dudekisser

I paid good money for this Dynex!
They supposedly started the panel by saying "Who's excited to see some boobies!?!? WHO'S EXCITED TO SEE SOME VAGINAS!?!?!?!?!?"

So, that tells you about all you need to know.

Fuckin' weebs. Mangagamer's announcements were all nonsense, too.

I mean, it's obviously great that this genre actually exists in a meaningful capacity in the west... but man, it looks like the garbage-tier stuff is what's really catching on :-/

I see a fair amount of people in the "porn or bust" mindset, IE they won't touch anything if there's no h-scenes, even if it's a really good all ages games.

Mangagamer talked about it IIRC and said their nukige sales are what allows them to bring over the more story-driven games, which don't really turn much of a profit.*

I'm excited for a couple of announcements (mostly Aksys's announcements, the Novectale game, Majikoi in 206x), but yeah we're getting what the market asks for. :,)

*Okay to be fair there's probably less work in localizing a nukige, and perhaps smaller licensing fees as well.

If they chose titles based off of what would have a low word count or licensing fee in order to maximize on profit I doubt they'd be bringing over Yuzusoft games. There are plenty of other choices with much smaller word counts from smaller companies.

I have no idea about Yuzusoft since their games don't look to be up my alley, just presenting other possible reasons MG may make more money on nukige vs other types of VN.
Yuzusoft doesn't appear to make nukige, but I guess as long as there's ero content those games have a better chance of doing well.

Yeah I agree they probably have a better chance of doing well. I'm just skeptical that these titles are low cost/effort acquisitions and releases considering Yuzusoft is a relatively big name in Japan AFAIK.

MG I like a lot because they like to take risks on interesting projects and niche genres. Stuff like Euphoria, Fata Morgana, No Thank You, Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome, Liarsoft titles, and others. Sekai and JAST mostly like to stick to safe genres (moeges and simple nukiges) and things that are already popular with an established fan base from either previous works or in the case of Sekai fan TLs. Although JAST has picked up a few interesting titles in the past.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the scale of each company, considering MangaGamer can afford to do something like Space Live. I guess it seems like I'm just making excuses for JAST and Sekai Project but MangaGamer is way more prolific than either of them (yet their website is still awful). It could also be that Sekai Project in particular is trying to establish their branding as a "high-profile moege" localization company.

That's crazy in my mind, because it's obvious the most successful VN KS were all "serious" projects and even when there's some porn in it (Muv Luv) it's not much and I'm quite sure it was not the reason for success. It's like these porn fans are just more active when it comes to MG and their site, but theat level of demand should not be unreachable anyway and a better handling of IPs could show that.

The problem is that nobody seems to really raise the bar continuously, not even MG, preventing anything from changing.

Dovac said in the SP Discord that the Rewrite+ translation will be fresh. Apparently they don't even have the fan TL to work off of (Visual Arts is the one that bought it, didn't give it to them).

To add to the conversation above: Both Dracu Riot and Senran Banka have more RTs/likes on Twitter than the new Noveactale game.

I didn't realize Sekai Project has a discord. Thanks!

Do you think it's worth it to wait and hope that the Steins;Gate pc improvement team can indeed translate Noah or just give up and play the already translated Chaos;Head ? And yeah, I loved the anime, come at me :S

At this point I'd give up. The existing TL is 99% done and is only missing translated images. But most of them all say "whose eyes are those eyes" anyway.

Just FYI, there is no chance of us getting Noah officially.
The S;G translator reached out directly to Mages about it, I'm guessing there's some licensing issues in place here.

Yooooooo. Majikoi! That's my favorite VN. Really hope they go through all of them.
Though if it ends up like Sumaga but kills the fan translation for A I'll be pissed.

JAST got Steins;Gate, the coup of a lifetime.

At least the port seam to be heading somewhere.

Majikoi makes me happy but JAST... fuck JAST (I bought Flowers during this Steam Summer Sale but still fuck JAST).

Can't say there is much too exciting for me out of the announcements you all posted in here.

The only way these Majikoi news could've been better if it was announced literally by anyone else... I'd just hope that it's a high priority title for them. I also wish it'd release on Steam as well.

So I'm playing Noble Works right now and so far it is incredibly meh. Not bad. It's enjoyable enough in a laid back sort of way. It just has no impact whatsoever and doesn't feel memorable at all. I'm not even done with the game and I barely remember what happened in other routes.
I wonder if this other Yuzusoft stuff will be better. The more fantasy/action oriented elements should certainly help.

Yuzusoft games are played just for the art, which is as good as it gets (provided you like the style). The rest... well...

I'm worried about Sekai handling the new Novectacle release, but it's a LONG ways off, so I want to remain hopeful. Loved Fata's translation so would've been glad to see Mangagamer pick the new game up too.

Sekai's reputation for delays and their lack of transparency doesn't help matters.

I'm hoping they get the first two titles out soon in order to get the third one faster. Have no idea what to expect of Tenshin Ranman, and don't really care about Dracu Riot. I am very interested in the third one, however. It's about time we got a 1080p title here: I'm not a fan of reading 720p novels on a 1080p display or reading them in a small window.

Oh, and Wagamama is releasing on the 25th. Geez...

tenshin raman is an ~ok~ game, dracu-riot is non-offensive at it's best, and senren banka is among the better moege I've played (touta is one of the best authors in the business right now imo, though you can definitely tell where his stuff starts and stops), so it's worth looking forward too

but also it's the longest of the three by a significant margin, so look forward to it in 2020 at the earliest

Subahibi is coming out in late August. Will be on Steam with a weird release strategy. Part 1 of the game is $29.99 and there's a free patch that has the rest of the game and all its adult content.

What about releasing a supposedly unfinished product is a bad argument? Sincere question.

This premise is faulty, but the part where he keeps talking and reveals that he's really just venting bitterness at Frontwing. Herkz isn't really a source I'd put much stock into when it comes to things like this. The guy is making the assumption that only he could edit the game and that Frontwing is hurting their product to spite him and it's pretty silly.

Frontwing actually has a pretty good record with their translation quality post setting up their own localization staff.

Maybe it's like the Rewrite situation, where VisualArts supposedly secured the fan-translated script and in the end decided not to use it?

that subahibi game feels like some urban legend to me, I've been hearing about that game since I first got into VNs. Is that game supposed to be Euphoria levels of depravity?

So I picked up Fruit of Grisaia for $15 (due to it's near universal praise) from a sale on Denpasoft but I'm having a bit of trouble installing it.

They sent me an email with a 7 part download + a patch however each compressed file extracts to the exact same 7GB file totaling 7 7GB files after extraction. On top of this 7zip throws a data error for an img file every time I attempt to extract anything past part 1. I tried dumping them all in the same folder but I just end up overwriting the same files 7 times over.

Is there anyway to get a Steam Key out of a Denpasoft purchase?

Am I the only one who thinks Nurse Love Addiction's localized script sounds very amateurish? It doesn't look like a professional product at all.
