War for the Planet of the Apes - Review thread. (RT= 96%)

When Caesar's later forced to execute Koba, I get the sense that he also does it in a way that's designed to give him a pass as well, when he declares that Koba isn't an ape. So my question is, does his decision in Dawn carry weight into War the way that his decision in Rise did with Dawn?

Caesar's relationship and differences/similarities to Koba is one of the big themes of War. Cheers.

Went to see this today after only seeing the first 2 movies of this reboot just a few days before. My wife and I both loved it, it's seriously depressing on many levels but it was a really fun and cool ride.

Is there a spoiler thread? Lots to talk about, some incredible moments throughout.

Best end to the Caesar trilogy. I kinda expected it to end the way it did, but the way they set certain events into motion was masterful. It was a joy seeing all the pieces that lead up to PoTA slowly falling into place.

I cannot wait for the Planet of the Apes reboot, really hope they keep the same tone and don't go all cheesy.

Was getting caught part of your plan?

OT is right here. No spoiler tags.

Why couldn't they do that in Dark Knight Rises? They wouldn't have even needed to have the Joker in this film, but at least make mention of the character and the aftermath of The Dark Knight. That really irritated the shit out of me. I'm so glad that War didn't drop the ball on this because this should have been a no brainer. And you wouldn't have even needed Toby Kebbell for this film either. Just mention the events from the last film and themetic transition the implications of that film into the current film as a logical continuum of events.

Does anyone know of the best YouTube video that best summarized the first to movies?

Ps: I have already watched the other two, it's just been awhile, and I might be going to the movies with friends that have not watched the other two, and will not.

JUst saw this tonight.

It was not as large scale as I expected. It's a pretty good, but the film seems fairly straight forward compared to Dawn, which I think I like much more.

My friend I usually go to movies with fucking hates monkeys and apes of all kinds so I always end up seeing these alone lol. She watched Rise on Bluray and was terrified. When I saw Dawn and the scene with Koba dual weilding machine guns on horseback came up I couldn't stop laughing because it would have fucking traumatized her.

I mean, does War enhance Rise and Dawn as an overall trilogy package, much in the same way that a weak installment in a trilogy sometimes drags or diminished the impact of its more successful installments?

This never happens. Never. Spider-Man 3 being bad doesn't change Spider-Man 2 being incredible. Each film is its own thing and measured on its own merits, and what comes after doesn't change a single thing.

There's definitely sequels that strengthen the movies before them. Especially character journeys and prominent themes.

Heh. Opposite here. My fiancé and I are both vegan, she's hardcore into animal rights and stuff like that. She loves these movies so much for exploring the Apes side of things. The first film in particular makes her tear up, it's honestly adorable. She's super hyped to see this with me, and she's not usually the sci-fi/action type.

Sure, but that's the opposite of what Solo is responding to, and he's right.

No one acts like Jaws is a shit film because of what comes after.

I think inferior sequels actually make the good movies in a series look even better. I still really like The Dark Knight Rises, but as the worst of the three, it gives me a greater appreciation for the balancing act Nolan more successfully pulled off in TDK.

Inferno and Blader have this on lockdown. I do agree that a good sequel can strengthen what came before by adding depth and nuance. But a bad sequel? That's just a bad movie that in no way diminishes the impact of what came before.

For another example, no matter how many terrible sequels James Bond movies get, it will never diminish the masterpiece that Casino Royale is. And like Blader said, if anything, the bad movies that have followed it have only made me appreciate CR even more. You can say the same for the Star Wars prequels too.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
Im getting really pissed off, is there fucking anywhere to see this movie in IMAX or AVX in Toronto WITHOUT 3D? My god, I hate 3D.

I'm bummed, this was shot in 65mm and my local real-IMAX is showing Dunkirk instead. This was shot with 3D cameras as well, correct?

I went to see Baby Driver last week and the trailer for this came on and two guys next to me just started talking about how awful it looked. One said he saw the first and didn't like it so never saw Dawn. The other said Dawn was worse and "an embarrassment of a film". I never been so disgusted in a cinema before. Can't wait to see this.

God.

That reminds me of seeing the Black Panther trailer before Spider-Man. The people behind us were clearly casual Marvel film fans, at the very least, based on their excitement over seeing Happy as soon as he appeared in Spider-Man. However, after the Black Panther trailer played, they loudly announced: "I am *not* seeing that."

I was fuming.

They're probably just racists.

Some people legit struggle to have empathy with the apes. I convinced a few to watch Dawn after their initial reaction was, "why would I watch a movie about monkeys?"; usually after watching they understood it's a universal story and ended up loving it.

Just saw this...

Oh man. What a disappointment. I didn't see myself being as disappointed with it as I am.

Woody Harrelsons performance was... bad. He did not carry the scenes that he needed too.

Just got out of it (thanks T-mobile) and it was super good, really happy with how this trilogy came out. Unless Dark Tower somehow comes out amazing or Detroit is oscar bait that is in the summer it may be the best 'film' of the summer.

Wow, what's going on with the IMDB user section? It's literally 1 star reviews for a dozen of pages. Many headlines like "communist propaganda", so I take it that this movie might have offended trumpsters in some way?
