What is up with the "My Sex Junk" segment on Bill Nye's new show?

To me it was like Hey Vanilla icecream don't tell these other icecreams they can't be themselves just because they aren't straight like you. Which is a good message. But then they made vanilla icecream go un-vanilla at the end which is kinda hypocritical.
I got that vibe from both of the bits in this thread. Implying straight people don't know what they're missing and that they should try other things. I'm imagining how that message sounds when turned around.

Nah, Bill.

The underlying message is fine, but it's like the most awkwardly written thing that I can't tell if it's trying to be funny or not and I just end up wanting to drink alcohol to fuck the pain away.

And what the fuck at that ice cream orgy at the end.

Thats what I had issues with tbh. They didn't want straight vanilla telling them they couldn't be themselves, but then they were okay with converting vanilla.

God's had his chance.
I made it past the opening introduction to the series and then kind of smiled and nodded through the awkward applause while he ran to his "science" area or whatever. I was hoping it would transition into something resembling his old show with some charm and lots of physical real world science stuff I could watch with my daughter.

Then the audience starting oohing and aahing with every fucking beaker he takes out and I had to turn it off. It's at the same time too grown up and too immature.

Seriously - who is this show even for?

My wife walked into the room when I was watching this so I quickly switched to hardcore pornography. Much easier to explain.

This clip is what happens whenever everyone involved in a production is afraid to disagree with the boss. This is the Phantom Menace of television.

"it's like poetry. The sex junk. It rhymes"

Bill Nye's original show was fine, for what it was, but it seems it is almost universally a bad idea to pump up the egos of these science spokesman types. Dawkins, Harris, Dennett, Tyson, Nye, even Pinker, to an extent, all become incapable of not revealing themselves to be kinda dopey on issues outside their area of expertise when given too much exposure.

The concept is fine, it's very much in line with Bloom's other stuff, which I enjoy. However, I think her stuff works much better on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend because of editing and production. As a stage show like this... it's not great.

Oh jeez Bill.

That wasn't funny or entertaining at all.

And I laugh at stupid shit all of the time, so I'm not some monocle polishing comedy critic. I just didn't think it was funny.

But I also don't like Crazy Ex Girlfriend either. The weird thing is that I think Rachel Bloom is entertaining, but I can't stand her show. This segment was not good. Bill being so proud of it in the beginning does make it kind of amusing though.

This. I can't watch this with my kids, and I have no interest in watching it by myself.

True to an extent, but comparing a BS to actual PhDs? Eh.

Lol. I can't believe this got a nomination. Somebody must reallllly love it over there.
The critics do love them Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, maybe it's that.

I love the show but the presentation was missing there for that segment on Bill Nye's show.
