Wii in 2009 - The official Thread! (wii's best year?)

:lol Always it's this. Either porn music or elevatormusic. But you combined them, Kudos to you!

Elevator porn is sadly a niche genre rarely seen outside of the amateur industry. Even so, it is freaking hot.

More vibrant? On the contrary.
S&P has a sketchy, "lose", smudgy style that is pretty unique, this on the other hand looks very clear and clean.

The colour palette is more pleasant to the eye, is what I meant. While I agree it is not as unique as the muddy look of the original, I think it makes it stand out a lot more from the lots of brown that permeates the majority of high profile current-gen games.

You can tell a lot about a movie or a game by a single screenshot. A short trailer tells you a even more. It tells you about the overall intention and mindset behind the game.

I still don't see it. Enemy design is almost the same except for maybe that big arse cockatrice and the floating sperm shit. It seems all you're basing your criticism on is that the screen suddenly features more primary colours and that the main character does no longer look like an anorexic broomstrick. Not that I have anything against anorexics -The World Ends with You has some of my favourite designs ever.

Maybe I don't look at it the way you do because I always thought Sin and Punishment was an ugly game. A magnificent, but ugly, game.

EDIT:

Squeak said:
That comparison is like comparing a Chagall painting with a childrens drawing, John Williams with Bach or Tezuka with Disney.
Sure, they share some of the same means and overall "language" but they are different in almost all respects in both "message" and quality.
By the by, some porn music is not half bad. ;-)
As I said the S&P music has a lot in common with 80's fusion, C64 music and other original non techno/house electronic music.
It's you who don't have the background to recognize the quality. Or as I think is more plausible, you subconsciously or involuntarily recognise the quality, but you won't admit it to yourself.

I just want to add that I'm actually in love with the song featured in the trailer, and that my main problem with the original game's soundtrack was not the genre per se, but its utilisation. Only one track in the whole game ever created feelings of tension in you, and that was the "rockiest" song in the entire score. The composition used in the trailer has a very "oomphy" feeling to me, which is why I appreciate it a lot more than the average song used in the N64 title.

To me it's not a matter of not being able to enjoy a particular genre, but of how it is implemented.

I do expect official news from Nintendo about Zelda Wii, even if they don't show a trailer. The info revealed should give us a timeframe of when to expect it, whether it's fall 2010 or sometime in 2011. I do hope for a fall 2010 release.

Mario Galaxy 2 or the next Mario I expect to be saved for a Wii HD / Wii2 launch game in 2011 or 2012.

Nintendo will have pikmin to show at E3 this year most likely. I expect Zelda Wii and Kid Icarus from another dev too. MG2 I find unlikely. But we'll see...And of course Wii Sports resort since its launching after E3.

The Dead Space image should be updated with one of the (amazing) screenshots and fall 2009 release. Of course we need an Anno image =)

Tried it on myself:

What's the official font? It would be cool if you could provide some "clear" buttons or a whole template. So we could help you a little bit.

Thanks. I will need more help for now. My daughter born last week and she's consume almost all my time and energy. My updates will become a little more rares from now on.

The official font is "Nimbus Sans L" from Xara Xtreme of linux. I Will put the whole template here later.

Publisher: Ubisoft
Developer: Blue Byte / Keen Games
Genre: RTS

From the thread on NeoGAF.

Wii's line-up is really shaping up. All these awesome announcements coming from nowhere! :) What I really like is the vast diversity of the line-up, games in pretty much all genre's.

Thanks. I will put it in the list.

I recently got a job at a developer and they have a team making a Wii game coming out in 2009 that I think looks great. They test the game where I can watch it and it's very hard for me to get stuff done when that happens because I just want to watch them play it. Unfortunately it hasn't been announced yet so I can't give you any details right now but it should (hopefully) be announced soon.

It's a good news. Please, when you can, tell more about this game.

People clamoring for Shantae better be buying LIT on wiiware. Not only is it a great game, every sale helps their next Wii effort.

Get buying!

And you feel that how many 3rd party developers deserve anything different and/or more powerful then what the Wii is compared to Gamecube?
You know, I've been a bit too harsh on the Wii. The console would be perfect for heavily cinematic games. It'd actually feel like holding a tv remote while watching a movie.

Nice combo with this post and your other one in the "Nintenbots, what do we have to look forward to" thread. :lol

I hate to add the OMG Wii 09 rules hype train but I just picked up Overkill and it is one of the best light gun games on a console I have ever played.

Mad World and Pikmin come out Monday...SO MUCH GAMING TO DO!

I didn't realize it until I started counting them in my head, but there are a lot of Wii games I'm looking forward to this year. More than any other system, actually.

I guess it's weird because there's nothing that's on the OMGHAVETOHAVEIT level of, say, Beyond Good & Evil 2 or Chronicles of Riddick, and because some are ports and remakes.

I hope no one is hyped for Vertigo because I just played it and it's trash. The controls are awful. Maybe by some chance it might play well with the balance board, but what I played with the wii remote is terrible.

I can confirm that Rogue Trooper is pretty damn awesome. Should fill a void for anyone looking for a quality TPS on the Wii and has never played this game before. My only gripe is the grenade controls. You have to hold the nunchuk vertically to initiate the grenade throwing mode. It gets kind of annoying when I try to scratch my face with my left hand.

Pole's Big Adventure

Where the hell is this coming from?

.

It's 'Paul's Big Adventure'. People are directly romanizing it and getting it wrong.

It's also REALLY awesome and one of the funniest games I've played since the Monkey Island days. Laugh-out-loud funny, at many points.

Like when you walk into a cactus and die instantly. It'd be shit in any other game, because the cactus looks identical to all the other cactii in the background. But as soon as you hit it, Paul's voice comes on (accompanied by big red text) saying 'Whaaaat! that one wasn't the background image! No fair!' and you respawn and you laugh.

Don't worry, i'm curious because it looks awesome. You work for the dev or what?

Nope, I just downloaded it the other week and was hugely surprised about the number of ways it messes with and pokes fun at games from the 80s. It's perhaps the best love-letter to 8-bit 2D gaming in existence.

I've got 2100 Wii points waiting for stuff like that. When is it coming out?

Just got a Wii as a birthday present and I was thinking of picking up PES 2009 for it.

Anybody have any impressions of it? I couldn't find an official thread on GAF. IGN seems to like it but it's also IGN. :lol

IGN's problems with it was that it was too similar to PES08 on Wii. PES08 on Wii was absolutely phenomenal. If you like soccer games, I'd say its the best soccer game on any console this gen. Assuming PES 09 didn't add a game-breaking flaw, it's still the best bet in town.

It's great, but basically the same game as 2008. Since you didn't play that one, get this one.

Just bumping this with all the awesome new game announcements in the last few days for Wii. I'm sure someone else can go through and add all the games, I don't have enough time to right now, or I would.

I know him personally.

His first daughter was born recently and he is moving from his currently house to another one. So, I think he is a bit busy lately.
