That reminds me, I should probably look into taking my vacation the week of E3.
Woo!
I prefer surprises. I hated how Sony revealed most E3 games before hand.
Is Nintendo's conference always on a Tuesday? I know it was last year but I can't remember before that. That's all I really care about seeing so if it is on a Tuesday I'm going to have to come up with a reason why I'm taking off a random day in the middle of the week to my boss.
Sure, they can play so many different ways.
But seriously you'll get a hud on the second screen and some swipe controls and that's it *sobs*
Are people still expecting Wii Uinfo at GDC? It's a bit to close to E3 no?
Same. It always makes their actual E3 so boring.
I wouldn't be surprised if the main e3 briefing was a bit watered-down and 'wiiU for dummies', followed up soon-after with a Nintendo Direct (just like the e3.nintendo.com stuff previously) blow-out for the enthusiast fans. Strikes me Nintendo have decided they don't like the coverage from the specialist press so much any more.
Eh? I was talking about Sony with my post.
And their E3 will still be a bigger blowout than any special thing they have on Nintendo.com.
Plus, there's already a Nintendo Direct for next month.
Later in the month, I believe.Yeah, I don't know why I quoted you. It wasn't meant in reply, sorry!
Edit: Is there a Nintendo Direct during GDC, then?
I can't believe there is only just over 3 months until E3. Times flew.
Gaf I need to know, is there any possibility of a HD Pilotwings? It would be glorious with modern hardware.
Were people confused over GameBoy Advance or PlayStation 2?
I'd rather they changed the look of the console before they changed the Wii U name.
Better yet, they make a Zelda co-op and one you plays as Tingle and you have to survey the land and draw a map using the screen for your partner. And they have to trust the map you gave them.
I find it totally hilarious. But that might be just me.

And as far as we know, it is one tablet only, right? One tablet, 4 remotes. There hasn't been a Nintendo source to say anything different has there?
Still not even sure why it would matter if people *were* confused if it was a new machine or not. They can't accidentally spend $250 on it to plug into their own Wii at home anyway, so if they are interested in it, they'll find out soon enough when they go to buy it/do some more research.
I think it usually is.
They were usually last, I think. Besides last year.
And it is a Tuesday this year.
But they could spend $50 on a Wii u game thinking it would work with their Wii.Still not even sure why it would matter if people *were* confused if it was a new machine or not. "3DS" and "Wii U" don't really scream next gen
Yes, but especially with Nintendo's demographic, often parents are the ones to buy this stuff for their kids. "You already have a DS! You have a Wii!" etc etc.

I really hope there is some extra secret functionality to the WiiU that we havent heard about because as cool as the tablet controller is, I cant see it taking off like the Wii did.
Wow, I'm not as far down as I thought I'd be. Doesn't feel like I've posted as much as it says.
Sexy.
I want this in as many games as possible.
I think I mentioned earlier in the thread that with a new Metroid game in particular, the TV view could be third person while you look through Samus' eyes on the subscreen. It would be cool to see Samus aiming/looking around on the TV when you move the controller. If you see an enemy behind Samus on the TV, you turn her around with the circle pad to face it, and then fine-tune your aiming with the gyro/subscreen. Touch things on the screen to scan them. etc.
the box itself wasn't even prominently displayed at the conference. They pushed the controller, which to a casual consumer, might just come off as a new Wii controller, like the Wii balance board.
As for 3DS... just look at the hardware. DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS... all look like the same thing, more or less.

I don't know. There was a Playstation and a PS One, so the Playstation 2 could be the second iteration of the first Playstation. No, but PlayStation "2" was pretty clearly the next generation of the PlayStation name. Prior Gameboys I don't think had as many revisions to confuse the casual public, and even if so, "Advance" is clearly refers to a step up in how it's named.
"3DS" and "Wii U" don't really scream next gen, though personally I'm fine with the actual name Wii U. I've just read that a name change is likely, so they'd possibly take advantage of this opportunity to get people informed of the new name.
Am I the only one anticipating Monolith's game more than anything Nintendo has except Zelda? I can't wait to see what they pull off. I bet there will be HD towns and whatnot.
indeed. I'd very much love if Monolith was the designated RPG maker from Nintendo. Not doubting they can make other games that are good but it's all I want from them.Me too. After Retro's mystery game I'm most excited about what Monolith is possibly working on. Hopefully it's an RPG. They made hands-down one of the best JRPGs this gen, and it's always been a dream of mine that Nintendo retain a world-class RPG franchise exclusively for their console...and well, that ain't coming from Square Enix these days...

if content content content seems to be the new mantra for the WiiU, Reggie better get on dattt fucking localization.Just as long as they keep localizing them.
Still pissed we never got Soma Bringer.
according to SE, it's a mythWhats a HD town?
Whats a HD town?
They definitely did not prepare the Wii U presentation out very far in advance last year.
22nd poster in the thread and not a single meaningful contribution. Woohoo!
When did they send out the announcement that they were to show off a new console at e3 to investors? I would say that they began preparing from around then.
