Well, I posted earlier my
impressions on the X1 controller, now I just got back from Future Shop again and got to try a round of Killer Instinct and Forza 5.
Again, just throwing it out there, I play primarily on PC and own both 360/PS3 and also have PS4/X1 pre-ordered so I like to think I'm not biased.
Fun thing to point out was at the kiosk, there were 2 either Microsoft employees or Future Shop people standing there basically talking to me the whole time about the features of the Xbox 1 including the '300,000 servers and cloud' stuff. To be expected, annoying though.
Forza 5 - Very disappointing. To me, it seemed like the videos had so much more detail in the car models and tracks. In person, it looked dated to me. Aliasing was very much so present. The demo kiosk was just set up today, don't know the details on the TV they were using, so it could have just been poorly calibrated. But I was quite surprised with how much worse I feel it looked in person. Game played fine though and was smooth. The car exteriors are where I felt the most detail was lost.
A funny tidbit that happened during the Forza demo: I was playing and one of the employees/reps there was mentioning how great it looks, and mentioned something about even the rear view mirror looks great. I kinda chuckled to myself as I noticed half the map disappearing very quickly as I raced on.
Killer Instinct - No idea what I was doing, button mashed my way to victory against an employee there. Honestly, I feel almost as if this game could have came out on 360. It really wasn't that big of a leap visually. The particle effects were the only thing that screamed 'next-gen' to me. Textures on the characters though weren't sharp and the 720p really showed I felt.
I really hope a lot of this had to do with the TV either only being 720p or poor calibration however. It was an LG tv, that's all I know.
