Xbox Play Anywhere |OT| - Have you found Phil's Loophole?

Where are you supposed to locate a Play Anywhere title, when you've bought a game on one system and want to find it on another?

I bought Gears 4 digitally and it is now downloading on Xbox:

Where do I find it on PC? In the my games section of the Xbox app there's no Gears 4:

In the Windows store Microsoft is giving me the option of buying it again:

I have the Anniversary Update installed and the game is downloading on Xbox, but how do I get access to the PC version?

Go to your Library on Microsoft Store. It should be there.

Found it, thank you so much.

Not a lot of good it does though, since I've gotten errors every time I've tried to download it (seven in all):

It says "try again later, something went wrong" in Danish.

I think this could be a real boon for Microsoft if they can get third parties on board.

But when you think about it? Is there really a reason a third party wouldn't do it? What would the percentage of gamers be that double dip on both console AND PC? It would be a fraction of a fraction no?

But giving users a free PC/Xbox copy means potentially more copies being sold as well as more engagement with customers, which seems to be the way the industry is going. I'd be far more inclined to buy games I'm on the fence on if I knew I'd be getting a free PC copy.

The groups that I feel that wouldn't do Play Anywhere:

EA - Origin
Ubisoft - UPlay
3rd parties that sell their software on their own websites and get huge profits from them.

Other than that, I don't see any reason why a developer/publisher wouldn't want to do that. The double dippers aren't gonna be huge.

As a title on Windows store it doesn't make any business sense for them. BUT if MS allows that a third party Xbox Play Anywhere title can be redeemed on any PC platform, it would be gold.

I know it's a pipe dream at the moment, but if you could purchase Battlefield 1 on Xbox Live and then receive the PC version for Origin or Watch Dogs 2 for Xbox One and the Uplay version as well, that would be so neat!

No one stated that they couldn't also sell the game on other stores. So selling it on Windows Store with Play Anywhere alongside their Steam/Origin/UPlay version does nothing but grab more audience.

Any chance they could make Sunset Overdrive Play Anywhere? Would love to play that on PC but I don't think there is any talk of a PC version

They could, but it was a flop, and I really don't imagine they're going to invest in paying devs and QC to get it ported.

Silence updated to Play Anywhere

We're very excited that, after almost four years of development, Silence is now available on Xbox One and Windows 10. The digital version supports Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing you to enjoy the game on both systems and only having to buy it once. It's the sequel to The Whispered World that tells the story of Noah and Renie, siblings who find a gate to Silence, a world between life and death, while looking for shelter during a bomb raid.

The idea for Silence was created while we were still working on The Whispered World. We wanted to explore new ways in which to create a modern adventure game. We spent a lot of time thinking about how to achieve that and asking the question: How should we re-invent a classic gaming genre?

Historically, as a player you would discuss puzzles with your friends for weeks, eventually finding solutions, and that process of discovery was a huge part of the enjoyment. Nowadays, and with the Internet, solutions are only as far away as a mouse click. Being able to look up problems immediately takes away the fun of puzzling things out. But the fun is what we wanted to preserve. Therefore, we've focused on the flow of the experience. We still have challenging puzzles, but we didn't want them to impede the plot or to disrupt the experience of being part of the story.

At the same time, we've modernized the visuals. Our goal was to preserve the charm of the detailed, hand-painted artworks we've created for The Whispered World, and to bring them to live in a 2D Environment with 3D characters. Eventually, we worked with a process called projection mapping. That allowed us to project the hand painted images on 3D models, providing us full flexibility in terms of positioning, framing, and zooming. A process that opened completely new ways of staging in-game scenes for us.

With this focus on narrative and staging, we're trying to give players a fluid experience that will draw them into the story and allow them to immerse themselves into our character's journey without interruptions. Speaking of, the gameplay was designed with gamepad controls in mind. But given that the PC is the home platform of adventure games, we've made sure players can switch input systems at will.

Silence is our first adventure game we developed for both PC and Xbox One, and we hope that Noah, Renie, and their best friend Spot (a giant caterpillar with very special abilities), will be good adventure game ambassadors, and that many players will enjoy their story.

Those are games that AREN'T Play Anywhere.

Agreed. I hope E3 has a bunch of announcements of 3rd parties joining in.

That game isn't an official game. The game that came out was Modern Warfare Remastered not Modern Warfare 2 Remastered

I need to check out Silence. I wish there was a demo, because the trailer looks good enough to sort of make me cock my head.

Ah, I see what you are saying. You could have just pm'd the OP to ask him to take it off the list...but I guess you bringing it to the attention is fine. We don't want alternative facts in here.

I wonder how RE7 has fared with Xbox PA. Would be really interesting to see if more 3rd parties get on board with the program.
