Yooka-Laylee Patch Notes (a lot!) and Nintendo Switch Screen

In the months since launch we’ve been hard at work on Yooka-Laylee’s first big game update, and we’re pleased to confirm that once our test team is done trying to break it, it will be deploying later this month on PC, followed shortly after on consoles.

This rather plump update will add all manner of exciting gubbins, including the optional ability to skip dialogue faster, bypass cutscenes or reduce those pesky gibberish voices (which should please speedrunners), plus a brand new optional camera mode that gives players full control of where it’s pointed.

We’ve paid close attention to your feedback and hopefully the additions we’ve cooked up will make Yooka-Laylee an even more enjoyable experience, whether you’re playing for the first time or reptile rolling in for a second playthrough.

Code:
The Yooka-Laylee Spit ‘n’ Polish Update

We know a lot of Nintendo fans have been waiting patiently for news on the Nintendo Switch version of Yooka-Laylee. To thank you for your support, here’s a glimpse at what a Lizard and Bat look like between a pair of Joy-Cons:

Wahoo! Thanks for the great news!

- New optional camera mode with minimal assist
- Camera design improvements throughout game (less scripted cameras, door cams now appear behind player etc)

Sounds like a global camera change. I am so pleased to hear this based on what I've read. I just got the game digitally for $20 thanks to a generous GAFer so I am very pleased to try it on XB1 once this patch releases.

These are all QOL changes related to some complaints I'd read a lot:

- New option for shorter ‘gibberish’ voice sound FX
- New speech volume option
- New ability to speed through dialogue by holding Y
- Cut-scenes can now be skipped with Y
- New moves section added to pause menu, with image guide
- Restart option added in the pause menu during arcade games and Kartos challenges
- Minecart control improvements and new visual effects
- Transformation control improvements
- Improved first-person aiming controls
- New first-person aiming control options added
- Improved flying controls
- When transformed, collecting butterflies now restores energy
- Hunter tonic now tracks the last 30 Quills and Casino Tokens, in addition to the Health and Power Extenders. It will also whistle at the location of the closest rare collectable.
- Health UI is now always visible when low
- Improved Rampo Boss Fight

Glad they're still working on it.
Hopefully it means the Switch version will be a good experience whenever that launches.

Lots of QoL improvements. :) I've already completed the game 100%, but I'll most likely boot it up to test some of the changes. The arcade and kart minigames were especially in need of some tuning.

Really hope the camera is completely improved. For some reason this is the only game ever to actually make me feel sick playing it

Well this MIGHT drive me to 100% it on Steam, some of those Pagies look rather irritating to get (looking at you Kartos!)

I backed the Kickstarter, but asked for Switch version. Glad all these improvements will be in before I play the game.

As a huge Banjo fan I'm very much looking forward to playing this, but am saving it for my holiday later this year. Do you guys think there's any chance the Switch version will release before September?

Dang. Wish I would have picked it up for $20 at Best Buy the other day just to try it out. These sound like good improvements. I was always going to wait for the Switch version, but once I read impressions I wasn't really interested anymore.

Played a bit of it on PC through not so legit means, and stopped somewhere in the middle of the first world, I knew I enjoyed it (hence why I stopped and decided on a purchase), and I'd be getting a Switch soon, so I'd get it for that.

Looks like waiting was a good option. I wonder if they'll have a physical Switch release?

These are great and necessary improvements. I'm glad to see them still working to polish the game.

They also say in the update that the Switch version is entering test phase and they'll soon announce a release date.

Finished it 100% a few days ago and really enjoyed it - those tweaks all sound great and should fix the few issues I did have.

Will try it again with the patch. I love Banjo Kazooie, but this just didn't click with me. I fell off in the ice world.

Was just coming back around to finally play this, almost sounds like I should hold off for a while.

That being said, I don't get many of the complaints after a few hours of the first world. Only thing I'd really change is making the rolling up hills a bit less momentum and physics-ey. Rampo fight was a bit frustrating as a result.

These in particular will be great to newcomers:

- Improved Rampo boss fight
- Pagies have added signposts to Hivory Towers to help guide players to new worlds
- Restart option added in the pause menu during arcade games and Kartos challenges

Hivory Towers was so poorly designed. Navigating it was a total chore.

As a backer I waited on playing my PC version mainly due to hearing about this patch coming out as well as wanting to play the game when the dust settles.

Very happy to read that they put in so much hard work into polishing it. Hopefully it changes some people's tunes in the game.

I suspect a Switch release date is coming next week.

Heh, as soon as I open the thread, I get the notification for the update email from Playtonic. Nice to see them improve on and fix a lot of things. I beat the game already, but haven't found all the pagies yet. So I'll still be playing some more.

Kartos nearly broke me because of how unpredictable the controls felt to me. Worked fine enough in the earlier levels, but got frustrating in the later ones.

Makes me glad I waited for the Switch version... looks like they're serious about ironing out the issues. From what I saw there was a decent game underneath it all.

Does it get rid of the forward momentum? That is by far the worst part of the controls and makes plaforming an exercise in frustration.

I want to replay this with all these great-sounding changes but I'm going to force myself to wait for either the Switch version or the orchestral soundtrack, whichever comes first.

I know this game got a lot of mixed reactions but I've been enjoying the hell out of it. Glad to see they are addressing some issues

All right, I started this the other day, will keep it on hold until the patch, cause the camera was driving me crazy

Sounds great. I might buy on PS4 depending on player feedback about the camera and on how much the annoying voices have been reduced. I'm actually looking forward to it because i enjoy playing platform games.

I just bought my retail copy last night. My favorite bits from the patch notes are right here:

  • Camera design improvements throughout game (less scripted cameras, door cams now appear behind player etc)
  • Restart option added in the pause menu during arcade games and Kartos challenges

Also, update on the Switch version; eff yeah.

I was planning on sitting down with the game (got it around the time I got my PS4 a few weeks back via 20% discount code that came with the system) but with all those improvements, I will hold off playing until the PS4 patch goes live.

Nice seeing a Switch screen of the game in action. Hopefully they have demos of the Switch build at E3 or a 'running on Switch' trailer for Nintendo's Presentation.
