I remember at some point during the summer, I was working at a camp and had to wake up at 6AM every morning. That meant no more staying up until 3:00 for Dojo updates.

So I woke up at 5:30 every morning to read the Dojo update and spend half an hour discussing it in this thread before I had to get ready.

It's really touching to read everyone taking the time to post a goodbye message... everyone seems to have a lot of respect for this thread (and rightfully so!).

This is most likely going to be my last post here as well, since I need to head out for the day. Tonight I'm going to grab some popcorn, plant myself in front of the computer, and enjoy Jiggy's Dojo Thread Wrap-Up Extravaganza.

Thanks once again for all your hard work Jiggy as well as your very fun personality (I don't know how else to put it :lol), you definitely helped make this thread something special.

That goes to many others in this thread as well... quick shout outs:

I guess this is it then. With Jigs' posts, this thread will close. I guess it's time to say my final good byes as well. It's not as permanent as Angelo, but it's time to move on. I've got stuff I need to do today, such as writing and usual routine of physical activity. Plus, I don't think I could sit here and watch the thread turn gray.

Jigs- Your stat posts served to liven up this thread, spark discussion and breed hope that every day might be a new character.

Various statistics collections and posts related to the statistics collections, because I'm biased like that:

The Jiggybot Girl Mode is foreshadowed and then arrives for the first time shortly afterward.
Girl Mode returns. She would become a regular.
Sciz comes up with the idea of a Shakespearian statistics post, and so it happens that Elizabethan Donkey Kong is born. Jiggy pictures him in armor, crowphoenix in a suit. He returns again a bit later.
Then he returns again, simultaneously with Girl Mode and the continuation of the rivalry between Thursy and her younger sister Fri-chan. Shortly after, scottnak dubs them the weekday girls, which is as fine a name as any.
Elizabethan DK comes back yet another time, and then a fifth time.
crowphoenix decides this is the only way to go, but Crushed doesnt like it and calls it a horrible and funny joke, to which bunches of others immediately reactGekkonidae, crowphoenix, and Iam Canadianbut Jiggy says it was never supposed to be funny anyway, so much as colorful.
A statistics report in haiku. Several, yes, several people count the syllables of each line, proving our boredom and/or desperation in the final weeks before Brawl.
Elizabethan DK again, this time with Elizabethan Meta Knight as well and a cameo by Girl Mode.
The situation reverses, as DK pulls a cameo but Girl Mode writes a sonnet about the weekday girls.
Girl Mode hates on Lucarios legs, Zero Suit Samus face, and Peachs shoes and panty shots. Shortly after Jiggy describes where the inspiration for Girl Mode came from, although it couldnt quite be discussed in this thread at the time.
A sequence of dull statistics posts occurs as Jiggy prepares for a return trip, makes the return trip, and then attempts to recover from the return trip. But eventually theres a double post with another DK cameo and Girl Mode naming Wednesday Wendy right after she changes the past.
The last stats post before the North American release date is mostly just a screenshot count to coincide with the Dojos pages and pages of user-sent screenshots in a single day.
Tuesday is named Tue-kun; Wendy gets a san suffix.
Girl Mode is strangely perceptive.
Then the two sides co-deliver a statistics report.
The mystery of why Monday has no nickname is answered.
Girl Mode again on April Fools. Goodbye, Tue-kun. ;_;
Bye bye, Wendy-san.
Girl Mode always loved Thursy.
And secretly she loved Fri-chan too.
Elizabethan DK passes the torch.

Incidentally, it may seem like Im a bit self-centered for quoting all this stuff thats under my name, but actually its more that Im sad I didnt think of all those gimmicks when the Dojo thread was in its prime instead of a twenty-two-twenty-thirds-decayed wasteland. >_> Back then all I had was, like, love that budded like a Pikmin and a few Japanese words, or a somewhat short-lived sequence of picture posts such as this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this. (With one last stint later on.)

All of my posts following from here until my closer will be a very large collection of quotes dug up by these dedicated followers of the thread: scottnak, bombcar, Syth_Blade22, Iam Canadian, Man God, RoboPlato, Keru_Shiri, crowphoenix, MrCheez, Fenix, dude, Firestorm, and myself. Each looked over at least 2,500 posts to select their favorites in order to compile this history of memories, megatons, and meltdowns; in the end, over 55,000 posts were looked through. (At the risk of getting into legalese, I don't necessarily condone everything that was quoted, nor the sentiments of those who quoted them, but then, these are the values of others and not myself.

Some posters applied a down-to-business format that provided quotes without any of their own input, while others sent their information to me with a great deal of narration applied. One section in particular is a fascinating stream-of-consciousness look more into the mindset of a person reading over these posts than into the thread itself. For these varying styles that bring color to the proceeding series of posts, I thank them.

Some posters found fewer than twenty quotes worth mentioning, while some found several dozens (the very first section, posts 1-2,500, is an example of the latter). Whether this says more about those who looked through the sections of posts or about the sections themselves, who can say? Perhaps its up to the readers of this post, here, to go back and relive history themselves at times.

In any case, these quotes were gathered with the greatest respect for the Smash Bros. Brawl Dojo Official Update Thread and the community that formed around it, and I believe I speak for each of us quote hunters when I say that I hope that this reasonably condensed, best of thread collection may be appreciated by future thread readers.

At the least, he would be really unique. I just came up with a few ideas because I remember lots of people being extremely opposed to the idea of NiGHTS being in Brawl for some reason.

Well they said some of the original characters wouldn't be returning, and Ness seems like a suspiciously throwaway character for the worldwide audience. Even more so than Fire Emblem characters, which actually has been getting consistent releases in the US now.

Mewtwo has plenty of potential: the problem is that he's big, has a bad shield, AND is light.

Pichu? On one hand, he's harder to hit than Pikachu, and he's faster. On the other hand, he has no range, he doesn't have the power of Pikachu's smashes, a lot of the annoying moves pikachu has (tail spike and down smash) are completely nerfed with pichu, he has the most difficult shorthop in the game, and he's the lighest character in the game.

I would say the characters iwth the least potentialk in the game are Kirby, pichu, and Bowser, in that order (from best to worst)

I guess the reason I'm unsure about the super-attacks is because of the way Mario grabs that little Smash orb before he does it. For instance-- Samus blasting off her suit does not necessarily indicate whether Samus and ZS Samus are separate characters or a transformation.

If there are, it'll probably just be an item pickup and not something tied to the core fighting system, based on that trailer. Snake needs an enemy, and since Kojima-san is in control of the level design for his Metal Gear stage, we'd guess he'll be including some Metal Gear Solid stable mates, like Revolver Ocelot, Ninja or Liquid Snake. And since Nintendo's working closely with a Konami spin-off, we'd hope for vampire-slaying Simon Belmont to turn up somewhere, too. Of course, then you'd need a vampire to slay, which would suggest Dracula.

Actually, its not so much a debate as a large majority of the thread jumping to the conclusion that Sheik must logically and irrefutably be gone because Zelda uses her TP model.

9) Pichu, DrMario, Game & Watch, Young Link, and Roy gone for sure. Marth and Falco probably gone, but they have more of a chance than the other guys I'd say. All other "Veteran Fighters" will return. (Why do Marth and Falco have a good chance? Popularity I'd think, which is the reason they were both put in the game. (both were highly requested before Melee's release.) None of the other characters on the list I just recited were put in the game because they were heavily requested, as far as I know.)
10) Sakurai really wants more females. I'm betting this means a new female Fire Emblem character, and possibly Krystal from Star Fox.
11) Ridley playable...? I'm not 100% about this one. I'd love for it to happen, he was high on the same list as Dedede and Diddy, and the release of Ridley music recently seems like a nice clue... but it still leans on the unlikely side for me.

There you go! A mountain of cookies for me if I get most of these right.

Edit: Added some reasoning to my claims. I won't edit this post again because frankly, I'm just so gosh-damn-sure that all of these are going to come true!

I don't have a lot of faith in their ability to produce quality audio.

this looks to be the case. Especially with that first screenshot. I can't understand why they'd make your character disappear though, since you get to hang around with pokemon on screen. Maybe assist trophies are harder to avoid or something, so they don't want you using them to set up combos? Or they don't want too many characters on screen at once in case a few people get assists?

The best reason i can think of for making your character disappear would be if you take control of the assist character, but Sakurai seemed to deny it:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is sort of like a festival that all sorts of characters show up for. Bear in mind, though, that you cant control any of the characters appearing on these pages. Let there be no mistake about that.

Yeah, only being able to grapple onto ledges sounds kinda horrible...I mean, would that mean that if he's too far below the edge the chain just won't grapple to the wall? That'd be horrible as sometimes you just don't return high enough (and if you did you'd most likely use the spin attack to recover)...

I don't see anything wrong, I mean it's stupid to not play as every character at least once and it makes the most sense. Obviously, you couldn't play as everyone because like you said, if Peach is locked up then it makes no sense story-wise to see her rescueing herself. My idea was that you build up a party, so say you start as Mario and then after helping out Kirby he joins and now you have a pool of 2 chars to pick from. I'm leaning more towards a combination of the two, like for specific story events like franchise bosses you'd play as the appropriate character but for levels in a non-specific Smash themed stuff you'd play as whoever you choose.

I definately do not see you being able to play any character on any stage.

That's obviously a retcon but it's HAL's series and what they say goes.

Seriously, I think it's a pretty shitty move. It's not like the Remote/Chuck combo doesn't have enough buttons to play a SSB game just fine. Instead of making SURE it'll play just fine, though, they've gone and relegated Remote/Chuck control to a secondary option, and focused on keeping the same damn controls from a previous piece of hardware. I don't give a SHIT if people are more USED to the GameCube controller, or if it's better at playing the gameplay from SSBM. This is a NEW game on NEW hardware and I want to play it with the NEW controller. Christ.

Who's Wii is actually in an acceptable area to handle wired GameCube controllers, anyway? When you have a system with default-wireless controllers, you stop worrying about how close it is to your couch. GameCube controllers wouldn't even REACH my couch, and having them all wired to the TOP of the system? Sure, I've got a wavebird, but I don't have FOUR of them. And shit, Sakurai even recommended playing with the wired GameCube controllers (citing "rumble" as the deciding function).

Ugh. So many people probably don't even have GameCube controllers, or if they do they're so fucking worn out that the notion of playing a new SSB game for the next four years with them is a ludicrous prospect. Am I supposed to BUY NEW ONES? Yes I know no one is FORCING me to use a GameCube controller, but again, it's just really looking like the game's been designed around them. I don't want to have it GIMPED somehow because I want to play with a CURRENT GENERATION CONTROLLER.

Coming off the eve of Snake's infamous codec coversations, as well as one of our very first glimpses into the gameplay of Brawl, we find the Dojo thread still energetic and fully of youthful optimism. It is a time before Wolf, before l-canceling drama, and we all thought we'd be playing this game at the start of December, and unlocking Megaman was still at the top of everyone's to-do list. Around page 510, the Landmaster tank appears. Little did we know that we were finding out about 3 final smashes instead of just one.

The biggest megaton that was properly covered in my section was the announcement of co-op in Subspace Emissary. It is then that we truly begin to wonder just how much Sakurai really put into this game, and are left debating the mysterious means of powering ourselves up. While several people guess that it will be an RPG element of some sort, no one makes the connection to stickers. Here are a couple of the more notable posts and exchanges the thread has seen:

My section begins on page 551, around an hour after Sega revealed Sonic is a brawler in their conference. I was already well gone into the world of sleep. Gaf was excited. Predictions were flying, was this the day hed appear on the Dojo? What other 3rd party figures would be joining him? Megaman was not a bannable offense at the time. But there was a problem. It was already known that Japan was getting a delay for the game. MrCheez's reply perfectly emphasized the last stand of hope against cold reason, and luckilyDanthrax is still alive-- or a zombie.

Page 552 basically spans 15 minutes of time. By the end of the page there are 3 minutes left until the Dojo updates and SuperAngelo cant take it. Jokes are still being cracked, such as Sonic Team being the hidden developer of Brawl. No one wants to think of that, so lets push on, shall we? By post 27622, Sonic has appeared, and there was much rejoicing, as many caps lock keys got hot glued down. Both the Dojo and Gaf were hit hard by Sonics reveal; Gaf was running slow and the Dojo was dead, save the German site. But the excitement is ebbing, enough for Duffy and Mutsu to notice somethingbad news. By using Sonic as a cover, the Dojo had slipped in the delay, and with that, the release date of December 3rd, and our dreams of Brawling during the holidays were gone. On page 556, Mutsu displays prophet-like skills at guessing the date that Brawl would be pushed back to. On page 557, the topic of conversation switches back and forth between Sonic is awesome and Delays? nooooo! with Crushed eloquently explaining how we all feel inside (Well, Im still asleep, but Im dreaming it. I also dream of a Rambo reveal on the Dojo, so its best to ignore that.) Fernoca posts a picture of Sonic and Mario standing together. The delay seems to be affecting Jiggy.

To emphasize the speed at which the thread is going on page 558, there were six posts during the minute of 2:39 AM, which is insane. Im beginning to wonder if my stupid, sleeping ass will wake up before my section ends to say something moronic. Zeed pops into the thread on page 559 to inform us that the thread title (Probably Sonic Sonic Sonic) was placed by EviLore, due to mass pestering in the IRC. LiquidMamba shows up with information on the Brawl delay in Japan. With a 1/24/08 release date in Japan, things looked bleak for the American release. The conversation on page 559 has moved past Sonic and into our usual speculation. Members are discussing the delay and dissecting the videos for every little detail that can be brought out. A Metroid level has been hinted at, due to it having lava, and odd character movements have been attributed as taunts. More people pour in crying hurrah Sonic. Fronn wonders where Luigi is, which sets the thread to discussing that Luigi is indeed in the game, even though Sakuri is being a jerk and not showing him.

AniHawk appears with nine images of a man going insane. I think it means that hes just had his mind blown. More speculation, a guess that ZSSs final smash will involve her ship descending to blow everyone to hell and back, before having Samus reemerge in her power suit. It is also only 3 AM by page 560, which is only an hour and a half from when my section began. The discussion is a bit hard to follow as it jumps from speculation to joygasm to gloom and back occasionally in the span of a sentence. Scottnak displays the true sense of joy quite well. One of the main modes of conversation still appears to be Megaman. When is he getting in, and how happy everyone will be when hes announced. Its a little depressing to look back on that actually, but maybe next time? Enk is the one dissenting voice, but thats only because it is not classic Sonic.

Crushed still wants Simon Belmont to be in the game-- That is one fact that will exist as far back in the past as one can look and as far into the future as we can see. And Sp0rsk came. MrCheez wants desperately to start a conversation about Brawls delay, but no one is really listening. MiniDitka believes that Reggie would not lie to us, so it will be coming out on Dec 3rd. Sharp believes that because some of us thought that Sonics animation sequence was cool, he can never trust our opinions again. AlternativeUlster is in denial- really, really in denial. PkunkFury hopes the TBD means Nintendo is moving the release date forward, but he knows thats not true. Rentahamster wants his flashlight.

BGBW keeps posting horrible images of Simon Belmont and made an image of Mario punching Sonic. Scribble proves that Sakurai does read GAF by asking if you had to drop one Pokémon, between Jiggly and Mewtwo, which would it be. On page 562 ShoNuff realizes that he is no longer 12. TheGreatDave hates Sonic, for some reason I could never understand (but I am seeing a therapist for it), but he says that Sakurai has sound him on it. Ill guess that was a typo for sold.

Jiggy finally gets around to posting his stats. And Mio believes that the delay is all our fault for wanting more characters. I hope thats not the case, but those 30,000 letters I sent Sakurai requesting Tricky probably did slow down the process. I mean, that is a lot of shredding. Slavik thinks that Sonics old art looks terrible. In a sense, I have to agree, but more because a fat guy rarely runs as fast as Sonic did, but then Robotnik can run lightning quick while Sonic seems to have slowed down as he lost weight, if Sonic 2006 is any indication. I really love Live and Learn. Its one of the songs I run to after my workouts, but damn, I did not realize it was so popular. Do you see this Sega? People still love you! Would you do something right for once!? As the conversation has moved to Sonic music, I am forced to relive the pain that is Seven Rings in Hand, which Dark Ninja loves. Enk decides to remind Gaf that Sonic Boom was epic. As I listen, I can feel the pain ebbing away. AlternativeUlster thinks that Sonics stage will be Casino Night Zone. Videos of the openings to SATAM and AoSTH were posted by linkzg. SATAM will always have a special place in my heart, While AoStH will always drive me to drink.

The realization of Co-op has hit the thread, though no one knows what to expect Linkzg wins for his ability to accept that Sakurai will give us what we want. AlternativeUlster is confused that anyone could not want Brawl, despite some people coming into the thread and being like, Eh, I might get this. RubxQub woke up and shit his pants then fapped. It was a good morning for him, I guess.

It is now 6 am, and people are beginning to wake up. There is a new flood of people oh-shitting at Sonics inclusion. At 7 AM, I make my appearance. My first correct prediction and I am at a loss for words. I believe I was laughing like an idiot at the time. Scribble wonders how many pages a Geno announcement would spawn. On page 566, there still seems to be that last lingering vestige of Denial as evident in elbkhms post on the differences between the Japanese update and the American one. There is also more fapping over Sonic and Linkhero believes that the reason for the delay is Brawls sheer awesomeness. And by 8:05 in the morning, I have realized that there will be a delay. JayDubya pops into the Smash thread to express his excitement. Brandon F would rather have Megaman though. Brawl has made WildArms believe in God. Due to missing the Sonic update, the Haunted One turned into Kermit and began flailing wildly, both, I imagine, in excitement and despair. Also on page 567, I, in all of my stupidity, learn that it is indeed accepted to call Eggman by his true name, Dr. Robotnik. I was elated.

Another picture post reveals that Brawl was playable at the conference. Page 568 starts the curiousness of Pit being mistaken for a female and/or Daisy. It does appear to be a lovely yellow dress hes wearing that blends just perfectly with his brown hair. The speculation has now begun about the number of characters could be included in Brawl, when paired with the character select screen. The estimation based on the demo showed a grand total 15 characters with 27 total, so it was a little off. Plagiarize declares Brawls new name be Sonic and his much more awesome new friends. A picture post reminds us of the cruelty of EGMs April fools day joke about Sonic being in Brawl.

Dude takes his ban bets seriously and says hell kill himself should Megaman not be in. And then there was a creepy claymation video of the original brawl trailer on page 570. Iam Canadian has again, even after all this time, caused me deep mental anguish by suggesting that Cream the Rabbit would be in Brawl. Iam Canadian says that his top five will be: Ness, Kirby, Meta-knight, Lucas and Sonic. Does this still stand? [Jiggy note: replace Kirby and Sonic with R.O.B. and Wolf, neither of which were known at the time, and thats about all I ever face when playing against him. Post-mortem note: He said after reading this to drop Meta Knight for Zelda too.]

Segata Sashiro epically hurls an exploding corpse into the Dojo with the reminder that because we (and by this I mean I) keep buying shitty Sonic games, they will keep being made. CreatureX3 says the delay was to add blast processing to the game. I hope so. Its the only logical reason, after all. Sonic cant go anywhere without his luggage. Chumly rationalizes the delay by saying that its not so bad that it was released in January. After all, he reminds, it could have been a six month delay. I tell him thats like getting hit in the gut with a metal pipe and being glad its not a metal bat. The conversation turns to how awesome it is that Sonic and Mario are teaming up and the fact that no one would have ever expected it. Afterwards, its a quick trip to Sales-Age and the query of what the delay means to the sales. I will now quote myself and admit that I was dead wrong. The sales did better than could be expected. I was parried with the notion that Nintendo would still have the next holiday season. And the conversation turns toward the fact that Lucas inclusion likely means that Ness is a no go. And the conversation proceeds from there, the moves known for Ness and the moves shown for Lucas are dissected, trying to proved that Ness would not be a Lucas clone and vise-versa. Venomgxt pops in to question the right to be annoyed that the game has been delayed. Littleberu counters with the fact that Nintendo likely will have very few games worth getting at Christmas, so this annoys him.

Jea Song eloquently explains what every Sega fan feels at that moment. And then the thread turns back to conversations about the 3rd 3rd party characterMegaman, Simon Belmont, Chrono, or Geno. MisterHero pops in to say that the fans will eventually be grateful for the delay when the game is out. Usea pops in with his usual cynical demeanor and points out that the delay may have been nothing more than a marketing ploy. I remember hearing somewhere that the guys in marketing think a delay add hype. I wonder if thats true.

I take the Haunted One seriously, only because I am sad about the lack of Megaman. Frozen Fire confesses that he bought Halo 3 and enjoyed it. Its ok, buddy. The game is good. I have it too. More people are beginning to get anxious about the American conference that was apparently going to occur that night. RobbieNick tells the thread that hes going to E4All, which means hell get to play Brawl. He is told to make sure to have good information upon return. The rivalry between the Halo thread and the Dojo thread is beginning to leak its way in. Who will be the first to reach 30,000. By page 577, we have the updated list of series icons. On page 578, we discussed the awesomeness of the L-block making an appearance. The conversation on who voices Sonic came up. Was it the terrible VA from the Sonic X series, or the decent one from Adventures? We believe it was the terrible one. And then MisterHero and Beezy tell the thread the correct opinion that Jaleel White was the best Sonic voice.

The conversation goes back to the number of characters that are on the demo screen, proving that we are a cyclical bunch. It is pointed out that Melees demo character screen changed for the final release. And BGBW posts that horrible picture of Captain N Simon Belmont again.

The joy of newcomers has shown up. Firestorm wanted Metaknight and, CreatureX3 wanted Pit before E3 06. Wow, has it really been that long? Jiggy is most excited about Meta-knight. And Iam Canadian says hed have preferred DeDeDe, but his favorite newcomer is Lucas. Scribble has taken up the mantle of the Marth is still in Brawl defense force, doing his best to remind people that the argument that Marth is out because he looks like Ike is moronic. He uses the Ice Climbers as an example of peoples doubt. Haunted One and Dark Ninja both claim that they wanted the Ice Climbers gone, or as Haunted One said, It wasnt doubt, it was hope in the case of the Ice Climbers. Little Fuckers (Dojo Thread rated T for Teen.) Dark Ninja reminds Scribble that it has been said that WW Link and Tingle cant be in the game because of the Cell Shading. Shinobix informs us that, really, Sonics facial expression in the reveal video kind of sucks. There are numerous reasons as to why, such as the mouth being in the center rather than the side, but as MisterHero points out, it somehow works logically. The conversation again turns to third parties, with Zeed, back in the thread, affirms his faith in Megaman. WastingPenguins states quite nicely why most people dont want both Link and WW Link to be in the same game. Its important to remember that at this time we were working under the delusions of no clones. DrForester demands that if WW Link is in Tetra/Zelda had better be in as well. WastingPenguins, it must be said, wanted Paper Mario more than WW Link, which would have been really cool. Papercut gives probably the best notion of how Paper Mario would play out and what his stage would be like. This was quoted for the sheer awesomeness of the idea. The collective hive mind of the Dojo thread has decided that if WW Link was in, hed just be Young Link again.

Sonics inclusion in Brawl seemed to most of the Dojo thread as a sign that absolutely guaranteed Megamans inclusion. We believed in it like we believed that there were no more clones. Megaman was a brawler in our eyes.

AbyssWolf, the DeviantArt artist, had updated his pixel art picture of all the characters. And it was determined by the thread, and by this I mean Zeed and Helzown, that the responsibility of converting it to wallpaper size was a responsibility of Crusheds.

Canadian shows us a blog post of someone that has completely lost his or her mind over the inclusion of Sonic in Brawl. And Im sad to say that the idea of a Luigi/Knuckles game, made by Nintendo, amuses and intrigues me greatly, even if only for another meltdown. TheGreatDave reminds me that he hates Sonic and that makes me sad. The thread has followed Canadians lead and is discussing sights of irrationality. Duffey said hed read about a person that was actually shaking in anger at Sonics inclusion. I imagine this might have been somes reaction to Krystals inclusion, but alas, she was not included. This however, was a boon to others. Canadian and Jiggy decide that the series should remain separate, and Id like to remind everyone that just because Smash exists, doesnt mean Mario is in Fire Emblem, even if that would be awesome. [Jiggy note: I still want my Fire Emblem Hyper Genki Edition. You guys got your dark Advance Wars; now wheres my cheery Fire Emblem? D:] TheGreatDave once again makes me sad, by saying that SEGA must have begged Nintendo to make Sonic relevant again. The truth hurts. And it will hurt all the more if Sonic Unleashed is a complete bomb. I return to the thread, see what is happening and basically make a post that reiterates the above.

The nights predictions have begun with people either predicting greatness or bunk. MrCheezs taste in Sonic music is great. Most of the ideas being tossed around have to do with Sonic: his stage, his moves, his Final Smash, or his music. Jiggy seems to have lost his mind on this one, but it would have been epic. Firestorm muses on whether to predict is synonymous with to hope. In the Dojo thread, it is. Jiggy says that he hopes not as hed have to predict Jigglypuff every night, while Canadian says he is predicting Ness every night.

The Topic of Sonics shitty friends has popped up. Jiggy assures the crowd that Tails is a good friend and Darkpen says that so were Knuckles and Tails until Big showed up. ShockingAlberto adds a zing to the conversation. A Master Ninja askes the question if EGM never had the Sonic in SSBM April Fool's joke, would Sonic still be in Brawl? The consensus seems to be that the rivalry was so great that it was inevitable.

On the subject of the release date, Sp0rsk says that we can count on a delay as there was never a release date for Japan. Sp0rsk proves that, really, there could be no other mod for the Dojo Thread. Snitch makes his prediction, which is a prequel to the infamous Snitch List. Hes predicting a multi-update about Torchic, Kyogre, Sonic level, Sonic music, Metroid level, and Sonic moves. Innotech tells us his strange sleeping habits or lack thereof, pertaining to dull or interesting updates respectively. The thread has begun to discuss Sonic Music more earnestly. With everyone either mocking Seven Rings in Hand or listing the rarer songs that they want in the game. Sonic Boon and music from Sonic R seems to be quite possible. Now the gang is discussing older Sonic Music with a friendly no you! vibe. Everyone is posting a song to counter a song. And good music is heard by all. TheRipDizz posted my favorite of the Sonic R music. I am such a sap. Brannon was late to the Sonic party due to cake. I will always approve of this kind of logic. The music conversation is broken up by bits of avatar fad and Zeed Bitching (I refer to it as such not because Zeed is bitching per se, but that he is the center of this little tiff.)

One of the central themes to many of Zeeds posts is post number- Be that his relation to Jiggys post count or the thread as a wholes relation to the Halo 3 thread. Beyond high heels, we know that Jiggy is terrified of Firestorms flailing Charmander. [Jiggy note: In fairness, Im not sure if his Charmander has actually hurt millions upon millions of girls. It looks like it has the potential to commit such acts, though.]

And we have made it to the second update of my section- Sonics Moves. I believe this post sums up Zeed nicely. Well done, Zeed. Two in a row is impressive. The fact that the spring stays on the ground for other characters seems to be a major point of interest for everyone. It is really cool. All of the pictures in this update are of Sonic fighting Mario--a nice tip of the hat to the old feud between the two of them. The group has begun to notice that most characters actually leave items behind as one of their special moves. Pringo thinks Sakurai is trying to piss off the no items crowd.

And the update makes its way into the Dojo Thread for all to see and to be easily categorized by Jiggy. MrCheez says hes not happy about the clouds in Skyworld. He doesnt like how they look. I wonder if he still feels the same. I dont know why, but this scares me.

It is considered that due to Jigglypuffs Rollout and Yoshis Egg Roll, Sonics spin dash and other spin moves may not be that useful especially in a more competitive setting. MrCheez hopes that Mario has been buffed up because he doesnt want Sonic to constantly best the portly plumber. [Jiggy note: As far as I can tell after 200 hours of Brawl being on, Mario got even worse than before. On the bright side for him, Sonics horribly weak too. Speaking of horribly weak characters with no finishing moves, lets segue back into crowphoenixs prose.] The conversation then turns to Mewtwo. Dreavus hopes that Mewtwo will be brought back, with Jiggy chiming in that he needs to be brought back for the sole chance of improving him, which would be accomplished by giving him more finishing moves. The group turns next to the topics of the FLUDD and how a Green Hill stage would play out. Many of the ideas being tossed around are quite good, especially Android18as. Canadian wants Robotnik involved, (though he called him Eggman) occasionally sweeping through with his checker board ball and chain.

A few posters have complained about the thread title to the new update. Sp0rsk blames Amir0x, and promises us that all thread titles from there on out will suck. Darkpen has begun his Smash avatar making for many of the posters on GAF, even making one for the Haunted One, which if I remember correctly was Warios face cropped over his Red Dead Revolver avatar. Wario cosplaying Red Harlow is an awesome thing. Insaniacs Fox and Zelda icon recalls images of the Sonic/Princess scene in Sonic 2006. And everyone on GAF has probably come to the realization that somewhere on the internet are people who are completely into Fox/Peach or Fox/Zelda or even Marth/Meta Knight. I just wanted to scare the people that are actually reading this. Though the images are no longer up, Darkpen made Insaniacs avatar and mine as well; this started the Great Darkpen Avatar Surge.

If you remember, a ways back, some guys posted that Crushed needed to get in the thread and make that awesome Brawl pixel art into wallpapers. Well, hes in no mood.

And the delay is now officially set at February 10th. OliveJuice hopes that the delay is to add in Megaman. The first pictures of the American demo are beginning to show up. here and here. Also at this time, the first information about how Smash Balls play out in matches begins to come out.

During this period of time, people have begun listing their old Melee mains. It had been too haphazard to try to organize it well due to the fact that Im trying to stay chronologically true, but a few pages back from here is where it began. They are easily noticeable because they are lists. With the topic of mains came the topic of who can hang with the tourney players. Ant was a bit dismayed that we werent as good as he thought, but seemed to brighten up at the fact that he could probably whip the whole lot of us. [Jiggy note: And then he would later publicly state on GAF that he had lost interest in gaming in general, very shortly after buying Brawl. D:]

Milabrega devises a sound strategy for Reggie to appease those hurting from the delay. Jiggy reveals that he has a GAF Posters of the Year document where he keeps tabs on us all. I am reminded of the fact that later we uncovered Jiggys plot to replace us all with robots. I find myself wondering what he has catalogued on that thing. [Jiggy note: I find myself wondering why GAF never had a Posters of the Year thread for 2007, when I was prepared, even though they did for 2006.

] Greccos Melee main list has a bit more history to it that most and a tip for Fox players called Shined Blind, which looks like a fantastic technique. And now after Brawl has come out, I remember why Fox was so hard to control in Melee.

The topic of Dark Link and alternate color schemes pop up, but Ant cant seem to accept that only Link would have an alt of that caliber and is hoping that it means more. Jiggy responds that hed like to see more evil costumes for most characters. As per the norm, people follow the trend and begin posting the types of costumes that would make good evil versions of the characters. That conversation is derailed as Insaniac asks if Puppet Zelda is Midna, which spawns the topic of Midna in Brawl, who is one of three characters that I really wanted in but didnt get. Leondexter proves that GAF can come up with some genuinely awesome ideas.

The Haunted One and Jiggy must be commended for how close their number of character predictions were- 33-35 and 35 respectively. And the conversation turns to predictions. Jiggy predicts a quintuple update in the off chance of becoming legendary for it, but says if it is only one, it will be the stage builder. A small conversation begins about whats better: bigger stages or smaller stages. To be honest, in my style of stage design, I tend to make them large with walls to keep people in. I like my fights long and brutal. Canadian discusses how happy he would be for a Giygas assist trophy.

The Dojo thread has reached one of its many milestones in surpassing the Halo 3 thread in terms of total posts. And as we move on from that the conversation turns to what the delay could be for. Some people have the hope that Sakurai is adding more characters and stages, but most believe there isnt enough time for that and the only thing it could be for is testing and balancing.

Sp0rsk breaks our hearts by telling us that Little Mac has been confirmed as an assist trophy. It would not be the last time that our hearts would be broken. The discussion has moved back to the topic of third party characters, and Error has proposed that Slime from Square-Enix might be a representative; This prompts Canadian to question exactly how that would work. Sp0rsk says that it will be Cloud if Square-Enix has one. AniHawk warns of the fact that too many fanboys might spoil the soup. Canadian muses that he would not be happy if Cloud got in, but hed be ok, because he can beat the snot out of him with Lucas.

Linkzg defends the notion that Little Mac would have been a great Brawl character be designing for him a move set. This act of defiance sparked the Little Mac defense force into action, which began to discuss how awesome Little Mac is, how there have been many boxers in fighting games, and how it doesnt really matter if Sakurai has to make up moves.

Back on the topic of who could support Square, the argument covers as many bases as possible. Cloud is mentioned. Sora is touted about. Cecil is desired. Terra is argued for. Me, I want Locke, but I knew that wouldnt happen. The main point of the argument is centered on when Final Fantasy became iconic. Most argue that Square only mattered after FFVII. Others argue that this position is foolish because Square was extremely important during the SNES era.

And my section ends as the Dojo thread claims the 30000th post. The honor goes to Darkpen. Its been a crazy ride through the fun of the Dojo. It kept many of us entertained beyond what was expected in the ever-increasing wait for Brawl and has created a strong community for us after the game was released. I must now bow out of this guided tour, but I hope that the reader enjoys the second half of their trip down memory lane. And who knows what the future holds. I mentioned there are three characters I still wanted in, and perhaps when, or if, 4 comes out they will be added.

I actually think it might be some sort of "video" mode that allows you to record your Smash battles. I've been freaking obsessed with this game for over 2 months now. (Of course I've loved the series for years and of course I've anticipated this game for a long long time, but it wasn't until the Dojo started that I had Brawl on the brain every freaking day!)

I could have easily stayed in full-gear hype mode until December 3rd... but now that we've got another 2 months AFTER that to wait... it just seems like so long now. Our countdown went from 50-something days to over 100 days. I'm starting to think that for my own sanity I need to stop thinking about Brawl so much and concentrate on other things... (This will probably make the time seem to go by quicker, anyway!)

Maybe I'll just check the Dojo once a week for awhile... I do love the community in this thread, though, so that too makes it hard... counting down every night and speculating everything to death is a blast...

I like both "tournament" style stages and the more unorthodox stuff like Big Blue and Onett. Out of the revealed SSBB batch, I'm expecting to like Pokemon Stadium 2, Battleship Halberd, Delfino Plaza, and Wario Ware the best.

Okay so like... when you play as Captain Olimar, you start with one Pikmin who follows you around (controlled by the CPU... think Ice Climbers). Olimar's down-B allows him to plant a Pikmin seed, which will then begin to grow.

After a period of 10-15 seconds, the seed will have grown into a planted Pikmin... still in the ground. Olimar can use his down-B move over the planted Pikmin to pluck him out of the ground... at that point you have TWO little CPU followers.

Here is where it gets interesting... you can plant more than one at a time... maybe, say, 3 at a time, wherever you choose. (One of each of the original colored-types? Or heck, maybe more than this - each pikmin could be really weak so that the player could have a bunch of them without getting overpowered)

Olimar's planting animation would take 2 seconds to complete, so you would not be able to plant Pikmin in the heat of battle.

Here is the other kicker... other players can damage and even kill your seeds! Part of the Olimar-player's strategy is to decide whether he should protect specific seeds, or run around the stage like a madman planting as many as he can.

The longer the Olimar-player survives in a match, the more potential he has for a bigger Pikmin army and the more powerful he becomes (I think this is an interesting concept for a character... becoming stronger the longer you stay alive). You can imagine most of his moves involve using every Pikmin under his control to attack in some way. And he could be made even more complex by giving statistics or abilities to the different colored pikmin (Maybe the player even has a way to choose which color he plants?)

Okay so that was really long but hopefully it is an interesting enough of an idea to make a fun read.

I have to admit, the Star Fox Command design for Fox actually looks pretty good in this game.

Incidentally, this has me wondering if there's going to be actual dialogue between the characters during the Subspace Emissary. Okay, so I don't expect the monkeys to talk (this isn't that horrible Donkey Kong Country cartoon, after all) but Fox is a character actually known for talking and we see him just pantomiming in this video. I wonder if they'll keep the silent protagonists quiet and have the talking ones speak or keep them all mute.

Unfortunately, if Sonic's character video is any indication, he might be doing some lip-flapping.

I never got the impression that from everything that I have read on the web, seen in the movies, or by playing the games through a number of times that the D/P pokemon had any influence over the earlier, i.e., R/G/B/Y, Crystal, etc. Pokemon or regions.

I don't care for most of the legendaries in D/P. They are Pokemon that have been Yu-Gi-Oh-ized.

Huh... no. Dialga and Palkia were created along with space and time. There's nothing mentioned about them creating the Sinnoh region specifically. It's even specifically stated that time only started flowing when Dialga was born, so there was nothing before it in the entire world, unless you believe that different flows of time had to be created for different regions of the world, which would be just ridiculous, and there's no basis at all for it.

As I understood it, Groudon and Kyogre were the ones who directly shaped the landmass and seas of the Pokemon world, not only of the Hoenn region.
