Xbox One Coming to 26 Countries in September

Source (a bit more in the link)

Now it’s time to ensure even more fans around the world can enjoy Xbox One. So today we’re proud to share that it will be available in 26 additional markets in September this year.

We’ll have much more to share at a local level towards the end of April, so stay tuned. In the meantime, the confirmed additional launch markets include:

26 new countries plus 13 launch countries will be 39 countries in total in Sept. 2014. Populations are taken from Google, most from 2012 estimates.
  • Argentina (41.09 million)
  • Belgium (11.14 million)
  • Chile (17.46 million)
  • Colombia (47.7 million)
  • Czech Republic (10.51 million)
  • Denmark (5.59 million)
  • Finland (5.414 million)
  • Greece (11.28 million)
  • Hungary (9.944 million)
  • India (1.23 billion)
  • Israel (7.908 million)
  • Japan (127.6 million, also see other Japan specific thread)
  • Korea (assume south korea, 50 million)
  • Netherlands (16.77 million)
  • Norway (5.019 million)
  • Poland (38.54 million)
  • Portugal (10.53 million)
  • Russia (143.5 million)
  • Saudi Arabia (28.29 million)
  • Singapore (5.312 million)
  • Slovakia (5.41 million)
  • South Africa (51.19 million)
  • Sweden (9.517 million)
  • Switzerland (7.997 million)
  • Turkey (74 million)
  • UAE (9.206 million, United Arab Emirates)

Looking at this the console is going to have market exposure to approx. 2 Billion more people, if you include China as per below that jumps to 3.35 Billion. Wow, I'm guessing X1 isn't staying at 5 million for much longer :)

I wonder if they're bringing all the Kinect and TV guide features to all 26 new markets? I also wonder what price point the Xbox One will be at in September? In Australia it's already down from $599 to $499 plus a free game too.

Searched and checked recent top pages, put me in standby mode if old. The Japan thread wasn't doing it justice for all the other 25 countries. I searched "xbox one 26 countries" and "xbox one september" with no results on GAF. Given the Japan thread I thought it fitting to show it's actually 26 countries in SEPT 2014 not just Japan.

For clarity the Xbox One launched in 13 countries:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Mexico
  • Spain
  • United Kingdom
  • United States
  • New Zealand

I'm hesitant to add China (1.351 Billion) to the list as Xbox/MS hasn't officially confirmed this yet but they are set to sell a trial run of 100,000 Xbox Ones into China this July.

Honest question-- In how many of those countries is it not already possible to walk into a store and buy an X1? ...Or at least know where to order one if you were seriously interested? I know that despite being official many places that it's widely available around Europe, for example.

Why so late? Sony has like a 9-10 month headstart in many of these countries.

If I recall correctly they wanted the Kinect regional voice/language recognition and TV guide plus local country partnerships up and running for their respective launches. I guess by September that's all going to be ready?

Surprised not to see Brasil up there. Guess they don't ser how anybody could buy a $1600 PS4 console let alone a $1500 Xbox One

Edit: my bad, didn't think Brazil was Tier 1. Guess that covers most major South American countries.

At least in the european ones they shouldn't be difficult to find. But the situation makes the price even higher.

I suppose that makes sense.
Well, at least this'll be an end to the godawful fanboy warring talking/arguing point of "OMG SONY IN MORE TERRITORIES!"

I just did the population numbers in the OP for the 26 countries and that opens the console and brand to approx. 2 Billion more people.

If you include China (as is linked in the OP for a July test launch) that jumps to 3.35 Billion. Wow, I'm guessing X1 isn't staying at 5 million for much longer :)

I wonder what price point X1 will be in September though?

Microsoft has messed up this generation with all the T1 and 2 rubbish.

Any momentum they had at the start in these countries is gone. Replaced with buyers buying ps4s instead of waiting. They had the stock they shouldve done more.

Sales surge confirmed, billions of people lining up now. Shortages imminent, MS will not be able to produce billions of XB1s til September. Yusuf Mehdi redeemed.

Haven't we known this since the end of March? At least I read about it here in Denmark around that time.

But good seeing it coming out in more markets.

Would be foolish for MS to release thus at $499 equivalent, I'm expecting them to price this reasonably with a game. All these territories should easily net them 1m shipped right?

Yea the T1/T2 designation is/was terrible.

...if you're assuming the purchasing habits of consumers are completely homogeneous around the world and are not influenced by economic and social factors.

Its the exact same argument that SenjutsuSage used when he tried to downplay Sony's sales figures.

The TV guide stuff still isn't available across all 13 launch countries. No way they're getting that done for all 39 countries by September.

And I'll put money on kinect voice recognition not supporting all local languages at launch.

I just don't know why they waited so long to launch in at least some tier 2 markets. As soon as they started piling up devices they could have looked to speed up deployment in at least some of them.

It will be interesting to see how his affects hardware sales, but I think its safe to say that if any of these markets would have had a big impact, they'd have been tier 1. They'll get a good upswing simply from how many countries there are though.

I would seriously hope not. September is 5 months away...if they can't get to 5 million from where they are now until these territories open up, that would be a huge problem.

biggest "markets" are india and china but if youre asking about sales potential in the short term neither of those are the big ones . A very small percentage of people in India or China can spend 499$ on a console and thats not even including the taxes and tariffs which would be included.

Currently in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, it is possible to walk into Tokyo Games Shop and get an XB1 for the same price as a PS4 (or slightly lesser). Already seeing some discounted second-hand XB1 (and PS4) sales on my University's internal sales Facebook group.

It should be noted that Xbone is already on sale in most of these countries already. I've seen discounted units in my local GAME-store already (Sweden). I doubt an official release will move more units. But I do wonder if the ones in our stores come from UK or Germany.

If you live in Scandinavia, can't you already get the Xbox One directly or from retailers who get their stock from Germany?

I'm from Belgium. You can find Xbox One anywhere. Shops import from other countries... Same thing in the netherlands. Don't expect a boom in sales..

Not all, just showing population numbers for some sort of reference beyond just the country names. Sure GDP and average income stats would be nice but I'm not doing at that :)

Also one has to consider places like South Korea which is already doing 10s of billions of dollars in their gaming industry. China is the same they did what $11+ billion last year?

There should be solid sales, most likely big stuff from PS4 & X1 at E3 but this release in SEP in time for XMAS is going to bolster the X1 platform in a big way IMO.

Agreed but I think there are some legal issues with the Kinect being bundled in for some countries too. All in all I agree and was pissed when half the Kinect voice stuff wasn't there for the Aussie launch. All good now and the updates have been very good in getting back the polish of features the 360 platform enjoys.

I'm curious about the marketing push though? In those countries they're just grey imports without warranty or marketing backing, yes? Launch marketing in some of those countries should do quite well.

They'll be lucky if they sell 200k in 2014 in China and India combined.

Xbox 360 had a huge marketing push in India (product placement in a Bollywood hit film, Yeh Jawaani hai deewani aka 'This young age, it is crazy'). Plus it was hacked early on in its life. In India most people do not want to pay for software, 360 piracy was crazily rampant. Its popularity waned over the years due to the cheaper PS3 cost (Ps3 consoles reached price parity and games are priced lesser than direct dollar conversion).

The reason why listing populations is extremely silly because of the previously mentioned economic and social factors.

South Korea does a lot of gaming. Where do they do their gaming? A South Korean kid will go with his friends to the local PC bang to play whatever MOBA or MMO is popular these days. He won't go home to play on his console.

My impression of East and South East Asia international students are the same. They don't give a shit about the PS4 or Xbox One because they'd rather play DOTA2 or League of Legends at an internet cafe than care about the next Halo. Especially when the Xbox One is basically the same price as budget PCs that would allow them to play these games, watch PPS, talk to friends with Tencent QQ, and download porn.

There's a reason why North America and Western Europe are the key battlezones for consoles.

Yep. Not sure what's a point of showing population from each country. It's destined to fail in Japan and many other large countries Also, in case somebody doesn't know, the reason 360 was popular in China and other Asian countries was because it was so easy to hack to play pirate games. MS will be lucky to get 0.1% of sales from those 2 billions people.

As a Swede I have no idea who of my countrymen will buy this, except very dedicated Xbox fans (which were already low in number here I think). Almost a year later than 'the big countries', those who wanted a next-gen (now current-gen) system probably already bought a PS4. Not to mention that most retail stores imported Xbox Ones from UK (or other countries) to sell to those who really wanted one.

So yeah, I doubt Microsoft expects (or care) about huge sell figures once they release over here. If I should play Captain Hindsight, they would be a lot better off if they didn't rush out their console to a select market, but rather go worldwide like Sony did. Not to mention that they could have released a more improved console by then, rather than playing catch-up to Sony like they are now.

A very sad sight to behold for me, since I was a dedicated 360 user the past generation. I chose to embrace PC instead.

I want to see how it does against the PS4 here in Colombia, and what the price will be. PS4 is around 650 USD, so it should be easy for MS to beat that.

EDIT: Checking online, the X1 can be bought for 630 USD and less. No price advantage for PS4 here.

EDIT 2: Similar prices for both consoles online, PS4 slightly cheaper, but not much, really.

Man, I really don't know what to say. I've seen the X1 being sold since last december here at my FUCKING MISERABLE TIER 2 COUNTRY* and it's selling pretty damn well. Not even close to PS4 levels of domination, but well enough. Will an official launch really shake things up when, I assume, many countries can already get their hands on the console?
