I failed as an older brother.
One time I wasn't thinking and exposed her to the wrong element, I let her watch some Ranma 1/2 with me, and it ended up getting her addicted to Japanese animation. She started watching shows like Inuyasha and FMA, and something called Fruits Basket.
One time I even caught her with Pocky.
She turned 21 a little while ago, and she swears she is off the stuff, but a few weeks ago I caught her watching some kind of Japanese soap operas, I'm not sure if that's better or worse.
I blame myself every day.
But honestly, I mostly stayed out of her personal life during her teen years, I don't know if that was a good or bad idea, but she turned out fine, better then me or my brother anyway.

Just to reiterate, regardless of whether I have a son or daughter I would restrict them from sex until 18 and even then they would go prepared with encyclopedic knowledge
So bloody what? Fruits Basket is on freaking Hulu! It's considered an ideal entry level anime that is nearly as harmless as most Disney shows

Why not educate them on safe sex rather than trying to impose some restriction?

That's what I meant by encyclopedic knowledge. They would be gynecologists by the time I was done with their sex education. However, there is bit of a stigma against teens having sex here in India which of course just means it's a lot more prevalent, taboo is fun

Been there done that, Hated her growing up (she's 4 years younger) and i think because of that we never really bonded properly. We get along fine now though, but we aren't especially close. She is closer to my younger brother, I think thats because he's 10 years younger than me and wasn't aware of all the crap she was putting everyone through, and she had grown out of it by the time he'd grown up. Some of you guys are really embarrassing and seem like you're trying to be controlling. She's her own person, if she wants advice she'll come to you (let her know you're there to talk), otherwise stay out of their life.
Thank god my brothers knew to mind their own damn business. I might not have the closest relationship with my older brother anymore but he respected my privacy and in turn I respected that.
He also found other ways to bond with me through things like video games and introducing me to them. Find things to do together, not control your damn sibling.

I don't think I can agree with that. Isn't Op sister only 13. I understand that he is a brother not parent, but depending on the age difference and relationship he should be able to step in.

It's not the concern...it's the attempt at controlling another human. I was concerned for my little sister....but not once did I try and control her decisions.
My big brother did...and their relationship is a little strained. Especially compared to me and her. She comes to me about anything because she knows I'll listen, give advice, and leave her to make her decision going forward.
Maybe I was just misunderstanding then. It is a fine balance, but it sounded like people found the concern creepy.
There was at least one guy in this thread that talk about "no sex before 18"-rule. And even if OP is older than his sister, it's not his responsiblity to control her. He can aid her, give her advice and tell her about his thoughts. But by no means should a big brother interfere with his younger siblings life.
A child is bound by enough rules. Rules the legal guardians set, rules of society, rules of school, we don't need another set of rules set by a barely older brother, who just matured himself.
Not even a week ago OP asked GAF how to sneak into a casino, because he isn't old enough.
