Standard DVI will not output 120/144Hz at 1080p, so definitely use either DP or the Dual Link DVI cable that came with the monitor.

I thought DVI to DVI was dual link. Now I am unsure what I have. Is there anyway I can check that?

Nevermind. It says dual link on the cable, I just checked :)

If Amazon would restock and ship before Oct 14th I would be so happy.

Has someone else had the problem with his MSI 970 that one fan suddenly ramps up to full speed but the other one stays off while in game but with barely any load and heat? Gets much louder than when both turn on like they should during demanding gameplay, happened two times here now, very weird.

Okay, found this: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=183618.0 Seems to be a widespread issue, probably a bug in the card's BIOS. :/ I'll test https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=183618.msg1318473#msg1318473 later.

Just got Gigabyte 980GTX.

Got 11719 in Fire Strike. Pretty decent right? It's actually a bit better then my score with my 690GTX.

Does Gigabyte have anything like EVGA Precision?

I assume that's your system score? What's your graphics score?

Also, EVGA Precision sucks. Use MSI Afterburner. It's much easier to configure and read.

Classified cards are usually good, but at the moment there is no word on release date or price.

The Gigabyte G1 is the best 980 out currently. They specifically mention they bin their GPUs to guarantee the highest overclocks. It's also got a beefy PCB and amazing cooler. Have you seen Linus' video of it?

I'm glad to know the Gigabyte ones are good!

I've seen the classified version listed on EVGA's website but it only says "coming soon" it's supposed to be the card with the highest factory overclock and overclocking potential but I don't know yet what the premium is going to be. I hope it's not over $700...

Hello noob question here... how do you know which GTX 970 card to buy?

I can get a Gainward GTX 970 or a Galax GTX 970 for about $419 AU (cheapest price here) or I can get the EVGA Superclocked for $469

I'm trying to build an i5 machine that does 1080p/120fps on high on a variety of games but mainly racing games like Asetto Corsa and Project Cars and that sort of thing. Should I spend the $50 more to get the superclocked version?

The Gigabyte G1 is $519 and the base clock is slower than the EVGA Superclocked as well.

My MSI 970 Gaming edition buzzes and features coil whine.

At this moment in time I don't believe any manufacturer is safe.

Is the new downsample feature available or do I still have to create custom resolutions? None of the games have a higher res than 1080p but Middle Earth. I hope this feature isn't game specific.

You need to go into the nvidia control panel and select DSR scaling options. Now you can select higher resolutions in games.

That's certainly how it feels as someone paying attention to this thread being a week or two away from ordering parts.

Why does such a great card have to have such a noisy downside :(

Part of me wants to wait for Assassin's Creed Unity to determinate whether or not I really need a new card (considering that even Mordor can run well enough on a toaster, aka 560Ti/6970). But then we know that the game is going to be delayed for PC and it's going to run like crap on any card anyway.

Buzzing and coil whine on my MSI GTX 970 4GB Gaming card.

Listen to how quiet things are until the game starts rendering.

Noise changes with what is being rendered (skip the the last 8 seconds).

Excessive coil whine.

I had no noise whatsoever from my Asus 660Ti or Asus 670Ti cards.

I'm sending it back to Scan for a full refund since this seems to be a widespread issue.

Man, yours is really bad. I get a little bit of that, but nothing too bad.

Got a question about afterburner, is there any way to tell what the core clock mhz is (total)? It only seems to show what the offset is.

Yeah, that's very similar to what mine does. I've not returned it to OCUK yet, was burning it in first to see if that helps any(some people report it does). I may just keep it and put up with it since I'm mostly using headphones anyway. We'll have to see, I've still got 3 weeks to decide what I'm going to do.

I never had it in my last card, the Asus 660TI either.

now i've read that EVGA and MSI have issues from this thread, so which is the way to go for a 970?

All of them right now seem to be a can of worms. The Gigabyte I have right now have noticeable coil whine.

Anybody know what the difference is between these two models other than a slightly higher core and boost clock which adds another £30 to the price lol.

If the 970s are anything to go by, the more expensive FTW version has a beefier heatsink that doesn't suck.
