The LittleBigPlanet USER LEVELS thread.

Check out Tic Tac Toe by Cristel on the West Coast of Africa. Sure, you can cheat by placing multiple crosses on your turn instead of waiting for the CPU's turn, but it's a pretty ingenious stage. The machinery needed to get it all working is visible as work for those who want to check out how it was made.

Finally had time to make a level. Check it out!

PSN ID: v1c
Name of Level: A Windy Night
Region: Top of South America

To celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the PS3, I present to you a 2 Player only game:

es_logo342.jpg

Level: LBC1 - <ERADISACK>
PSN: snowflakecat
Location: North America - West

UPDATE 1! Details here.

The goal of the game is to use your machines to destroy your opponent's target. The game can also be won if your opponent has all their machines destroyed and has run out of Playstation specials. If both of you run out of turns and firepower simply suicide and a tie condition would be met.

(A tie condition was implemented in an unpublished version but I figure people won't have the patience to cycle through all menu options to trigger it... an improved detection scheme for the destruction of machines is being worked on but it would require removal of the tutorial. When the contest is over I will implement the improved scheme and separate the tutorial into a full fledged game with separate gameplay.)

(see my comments in the post below about some "bugs" that you might encounter and have questions about)

Features:
* Intro "movie"
* Tutorial to introduce new players
* Psuedorandom generation of playing field. A different game every time!
* Psuedorandom selection of first phase (turn).
* 3 Machine types: Light Cannon, Heavy Cannon, TerraGen
* Playstation Special - Generates something random! Or nothing at all...

Tutorial:

es_tut981.jpg

Field:

es_field196.jpg

Menu:

es_menu704.jpg

A: Light Cannon - Fires a rapid shell that blows up grass and dirt.
B: Heavy Cannon - Fires a slow shell that blows up grass but passes through dirt. Also leaves a small trail of terrain.
C: TerraGen - Generates terrain that can only be blown up by high velocity shells.
D: Playstation Special - ??? Can only use twice in a game. Afterwards, the user gains the ability to pass his/her turn.

Have fun and remember to Heart if you want to vote for my level.

Thanks to (PSN) Rylar and (PSN) Biggdady for beta testing.

Enjoy!

Just made my first real level...CHECK IT OUT! Heart me and my levels too while you're at it (I need to get that platinum somehow! :p )

Called 'World of Fabric'. Did a lot of iterating on this, so if you played it originally it is radically different now.

PSN is Lemm so it may be easier to search that way.

Ranger X, I'd appreciate it if you could add some pics from the level when you get a chance (preferably some of the colorful lighting sections) and put it in the standard format you've got for this thread. I don't have a camera unfortunately.

EDIT: just republished it. Had a bug that needed fixing at the end.
Wow.

Okay, I had it locked for some reason.

It's been republished under the name "Mansion of Whimsy"

That was the weirdest name I could possibly come up with.

Does having a level locked making it not search-able?

No idea, but I found it upon searching for the whole name, so at least that will help.

It's been played 20 times and no one's hearted it, so don't get your expectations too high.

I'm thinking of better ideas for levels.

Ah ok, i hope not atleast, since my levels are both locked :) I am not sure how many that will search for my levels though, but still :) Thanks for the info! :)

I will see if i can find your level tomorrow (its 2:38AM right now, and i'm about to go to bed) :)

My PSN tag is tolko

Here are some levels I found that were interesting:

Fall Fast - Tower Collapse by ionlylooklazy. It's a short but interesting challenge. Doesn't look like much but fun. In Brazil.

The Ocean Floor by chuckthedrummer. No challenge at all (very little danger) but interesting atmosphere. In the Atlantic Ocean.

Don't miss out on Mad Mansion!

I'm creating my first level now, but it probably won't be ready for a while.

Yep. I'm not too sure what the original was but I know the gameplay and ERADISACK is similar.

=P

Okay played it and hearted. Quite clever of you but there was a weird bug in the game I played where some odd behavior occurred. Let me try again before commenting.

Well there are a few issues that cannot be solved without reducing some of the features and some that cannot be solved at all due to limitations of the physics system, bombs, and material interactions. The most common issue is if you partially destroy the machine's control system but not the generator so it keeps generating bombs/terrain. I could get around this by increasing the detection radius of the self-destruct mechanism built into each machine, but that would mean you could potentially destroy it without hitting it with a shell. The second issue is with generation. Sometimes things don't generate if a miniscule bit of glue is blocking it.

I could get around the first issue by scattering magnetic sensors all over the machine and a magnetic switch to detect if it's still in place. But the issue here is that I'm out of colors.

Due to limitations of LBP (primarily camera and 8-color limitation of mag sensors), it's hard enough to make a level with this type of gameplay mechanic, which requires a mixed-signal state machine to begin with.

Edit: I've never played another level with a state-machine for gameplay; if you guys find another one please be sure to tell me about it.

Lets see how this goes..

Level Name: Cat Prototype
Location: UK
Info: It's all about finding my lost kitten, Daisy, and taking her back to her brother, Henry. When you do, you win a prize :)

I don't have a million hours to make these levels so be kind :p

Alrighty, the level isn't finished but I'm hoping to get some feedback on what I have so far. I'm finally at the halfway mark of my new stage. I've published it in the hopes that you guys can test it out and see what works and what doesn't. Any help is appreciated as I'm hoping to make this one really polished.

Just wanted to comment on some levels I tried last night.

Speevy, I tried Mansion of Whimsy. Here's some comments:

- the first part with the platforms in multiple planes was pretty annoying. Certain platform configurations really highlight some of the control issues in LBP, and this was one of them.

- I liked the use of original enemies, which is something you don't see enough of. The part with the table and silverware was a bit hard to navigate due to the camera angle. Pan up so you can see what plane everything is on.

- The part just above that with the stairway behind glass was very awkward due to the camera angle. Some of the puzzle mechanics seemed broken.

- The book puzzle was interesting, I surprised myself by how precisely I was able to place the books. However, it seemed broken. When I thought I had solved the puzzle, the last obstacle still wasn't moving. I ended up jumping over it in the end.

- The pool table was confusing. Not sure what I was supposed to do. I ended up getting stuck inside the table, with one of the balls having gone over the right edge. There was no way to retrieve it, so I just bypassed the puzzle.

I tried World of Fabric also.

- Huge level, I was impressed at the length. First level I've seen with challenges that were almost on a par with the Curator levels.

- The first part, where you go under the floor where you start off, felt like I had found a secret area, but then I realized that was where I was supposed to go. It didn't seem very obvious, and I was very surprised at how huge the level became. I never reached the switch in the top right of the first area. Did I do some kind of sequence break?

- I thought the challenge level was excellent. Several times I made it to the next checkpoint on my last life.

- At the very end, something weird happened. When I hit those three buttons and set off the explosives, I walked over to the left and managed to get myself stuck in the wall. I couldn't even use the restart from last checkpoint function. I ended up never finishing the level as a result.

I tried another level called "Jade Palace" or "Jade Temple" or something like that, which was very good. I think the author was "jaedyn" or something like that. It had interesting puzzles and a pretty dramatic boss. Unfortunately, the checkpoint is attached to the boss, so if you happen to die while the boss is dying (as happened to me) then suddenly you have no lives left! Another level I wasn't able to finish!

Dunno if its good enough to go in the OP but for what it's worth here's my 3rd effort. (With Pics)

'We Won It 5 Times'

Located NW Africa

Not a hugely big level and a little tricky in places, but my daughter can Ace it so gaffers should have no probs ;-)

Play and heart me/the level if you like it, i need the hearts! thanks chaps.

(1) You may have, can you tell me how you got underneath there without hitting the switch in the top right corner?

(2) Hm. Wish I could fix that! Seems like a random bug though. Hopefully you get to play it again. Heart me as a creator when you get a chance!

I'm discouraged to make a new level. I've spent so much time trying to get my level out there (seriously... trying to cram all those items in small spaces is hell with the glue/unglue problems). I have more ideas but the problems I faced with the last and the lack of hits is really turning me off of the whole create aspect. Anyone else going through this dilemma?

I got some pics. I didn't have time to shrink and host them yesterday evening. I'm gonna post them tonight as I was planning to update this thread anyways.

Thanks Kirk. It's "The Jade Fortress" . Sorry about that bug, I only had it happen to me once during all my testing and figured that the chances of it happening again were slim to none. Anyway I know how to fix it and will do it tonight. Beating the boss is the last thing you do in the level anyway so you didn't miss anything else besides a score upload. I have four other levels published and two more on the way. Hope you'll give em a try. :)

Yeah I played your levels the other day. Very good work! Really enjoyed the Jade Fortress.

As mentioned in the official thread, I updated Livingroom of Doom (search for "Livingroom" and you'll find it) to version 1.1 with bug fixes and a few added secrets. Most importantly, I made the launcher easier to use for a party of more than one player. Please try it out and give me some feedback!

Here are some newly featured levels!

It's cool. I never use the camera on my phone. I thought it would have been too poor of quality, but it turned out okay when I cropped it down.

This is another good pic of my level!

i think it depends on your expectations. i put a week of work into my level (i admit its not great but better then ALOT of whats out there) I have under 50 plays right now, and am perectly fine with that. I am thrilled to see 2 or 3 new people played my level when i check it every few days. its just a cool feeling.

i did ALOT of level creating with Mega Man powered up, where you get no feedback, and have no idea if anyone played oyur level after oyu upload it. So just the fact that i can see people are playing my level and that i am getting some feedback here and there makes me happy.

i am just happy to be able to share my creations with other players, i am not really concerned with gettting tons of plays. If i do awesome, if not thats ok too.

I can say i am motivated to make my next level even better then the last one to see if i can get more plays. So for me, getting 30 or 40 plays has been motivating to make me want to build my next level.

I was running around on the rotating fabric wheels that you encounter after the first few big jumps. I believe I grabbed on to the one farthest to the left (I believe that's the large one that goes very fast and gets a bit glitchy at times), let go at the wrong time, and it flung me all the way to the left. I seemed to fall down a small space (I thought the gas was going to kill me) and then landed to the left of a large pool of gas with small platforms.

Here's a really nice level I played yesterday that reminds me of the story levels:

Clockworks: Monkey Business / sbj42
-NW Europe

While definitely not as grand as some of the levels in the OP, my level The Habitat is an attractive and fun little jaunt - lots of spin wheel jumping! Give it a shot!

I'm planning to play this game with my gf after our dinner tonight. Can anyone please help me with a list of good, fun, and EASY levels? She tried the game out for a bit a couple weeks ago and she even had a hard time with the second story level >< Thanks!

:lol Family hijacked the HDTV for thanksgiving parade.

Anyway, what would be the best place to ask for creation tips? Here or in the main topic?

Both thread are good for that i think. But it would be cool to discuss this here.
I mean, it's the user levels that needs attention and after all, creating is directly related subject.

I played some really good user levels recently. I found that finding good levels is easy if you have someone on your friends list that has hearted a bunch. I've been playing all the ones that Jaeyden hearted, he not only makes great levels he also finds and plays them. My daughter kept telling me "you have to beat Jaeyden's score!" when she saw his name and score in the corner, I didn't beat him often.

Does anyone know of good tutorials for making levels? I went through the in-game stuff but I am still hopeless for simple things. I could not make one object from multiple parts, they were always separate. I also don't know how to make a platform fixed, everything would fall immediately or when I jumped on it.

Thanks.

If you want a quick access of all the levels I feature in this thread, go check my hearted list. It's like 4 pages now (lol).

I don't know about great places for tutorial but there has been nice people on GAF that regularly answer and help others. (Especially ClipperUS). Post your problems here and we'll try to help you.

To make an object with multiple parts that will stay together, you need to glue those parts. To blue something it need to touch something else (move the object until it touches to the other object -- that will get highlighted) then you place it there by HOLDING X and not just pressing X. You hold it until the gluing sound is done.

To have a platform fixed you need to either glue it to something, bolt it to something else, link it with something else by a piston, rod or chain or make it out of "dark matter" material.

LOL - That's so cute.

www.littlebigworkshop.com

Look around the official site. Just sign in with your PSN ID and check out the forums under the news section. Lots-o-good stuff in there or we'll always be happy to help.

Making an object from multiple parts is a simple as legos. Here's an easy way to start figuring it out . Select the object you want to stick to something else, move it on to the other object and push in the direction you want it connected. Hold down X until you hear the connection sound. That simple. You should notice that the object you are gluing to turns a green color when you make contact with it. This is so you can tell 'what' is getting stuck to 'what'. If you are trying to glue two objects together from one plane to another you use L1 and L2 and hold X. Try it. You'll know its ready to glue by seeing the object in the other plane turn green. L1 is for gluing objects from a plane behind to a plane in front L2 is for gluing object from a front plane to a plane behind it. Hope that helps.

As for platforms. Try this. Create the platform you want. Press pause. Move the platform to an area of the screen where nothing else is. Select your material tool. Select dark matter, and make it in the shape of a square. Now make the square as small as you can underneath your platform. It should show as a tiny glowing spot. Now select your platform and move the platform on top of the dark matter. Using the method explained above push in the direction of the dark matter and hold X until you hear the sound. You should now have a platform that will stay where ever you want it, but you can easily move and copy it from place to place without having to unglue it from other parts of the level.

I was unable to get onto the rose lift in the Gregarious Garden. Either the lift needs to come down a little further or the Rose needs a little step you can jump onto. I tried to get on top of the Rose for a long time but only made it up once and then fell down before I could jump to the lift. Was I missing something? I really like the work you put into it.
