Valve PR: First 10 titles get steam greenlight (incl Black Mesa)

I voted "yes" to nine of those. Kenshi was the only one I said no to because it looked ugly and way too ambitious for a small team of no names.

There was a stealth game which looked like a very good Mirror's Edge ripoff. How is it doing? Can't look it up right now.

I thought they still had to pass through Valve's internal selection process, it's amazing to see how fast these games have gotten the OK to be released on Steam.

Routine is the only one that I care about, and while I like the concept, it's just that. Hoping for the best, though!

No I think it was always mend to be a free mod, and I agree even if they wanted to I think they can't sell it because of Valve owns the rights to everything in the mod.

If I were Valve I would sort a deal to have it included in Half-Life: Source and have maybe 20% of the proceeds from that point on go to a fund that the Black Mesa mod team can democratically make use of. That way it would be free for 99% of the people that have been waiting for it anyway and still very cheap for those that don't have HL:S and they would of course still be allowed to release it for free outside of Steam.

Great to see titles coming out already.

Project Zomboid?

Wasn't there a whole mess of stuff surrounding that? Scammy business, a robbery that left them without any code, no backups, etc? Was that them?

Encouraging piracy until they realized it actually was hurting them rather than fighting the man.

Routine looks sweet!

I'm confused on how this will work for the things that were supposed to be free mods. Will they now be standalone downloads that will have to license the original engines or what, does Valve even allow free games to be published that don't have In App Purchases or some other form of making some profit?

edit-

lmao at McPixel!

Really disappointed that that retro Action-RPG based on Secret of Mana didn't get up there. I don't remember the name (other than it started with "Secret of"), but I really wanted it.

I haven't kept up with anything Steam Greenlight related so I guess I have some games to look up to see what's going on.

Routine is gonna try and implement Rift support? Cool.

Judging by what the gaffer said (he was in school with the guys), I thought this was just going to be some student project that wasn't a commercial release. Glad to see they're thinking bigger now.

Great news, even though I'm only interested in about half. Will definitely check out Black Mesa, Routine, Zomboid, Towns and Kenshi.

No GAFfer game though :(

Fuck yeah, Zomboid. been following that game for a while. And McPixel should be going up soon right? It's been finished for a while now.

So, is Black Mesa going to be on steam by release later this week do you think?

Honestly, I think Valve told them to put it on Greenlight (maybe a month or so ago). They probably have been in communication since the BM team got to a good finishing point.

Chances are, even without Greenlight it would have been released on Steam this week, but this is all just a hunch, nothing is known.

Thanks for the links.

I'm still slightly confused about what happens next. Will these games get some financial backing of some sort for the completion of their product, or will they just be featured on the steam store.

These games will be allowed to be published on the steam store.

Solid lineup.

Routine was probably the most interesting thing on Greenlight, glad it got in with the first batch. Also happy for the McPixel guy.

2 favourites gone, 4 to go.
