PlayStation Vita game review and comments thread

And people say vita has no games...

Yep, that's the way it goes! Let's keep this thread clean though.

My games:

Uncharted - Golden Abyss

+ Great graphics for a launch game
+ Plays like Uncharted
- It really only picks up a couple hours in
- No multiplayer

Gravity Rush

+ Kat
+ Graphics are mindblowing
+ Playing with gravity works great and is addictive
+ The soundtrack is even better than the graphics are
- Combat and camera are clunky, especially towards the end it gets annoying

Metal Gear Solid: HD Edition

+ Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 in your pocket
+ They look great, even though they're not native res
- No Metal Gear Solid 1 or Peace Walker

Ridge Racer

+ It's Riiiiiiiiiidge Racurrrrrrrrrrrr!
- 30 fps
- Almost no content, unless you buy it separately or with the Gold Pass
- Focusses on online/multiplayer, singleplayer is boring

Unit 13

+ Third person shooter tailored for on the go play sessions
+ Co-op multiplayer is a blast
- Gets old fairly quick
- Graphics aren't that great

Resistance: Burning Skies

+ Proof that dual sticks on a handheld are a dream come true
- Bland graphics, level and character design
- Short singleplayer story mode
- Mediocre multiplayer

I'm getting Little Big Planet, Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, NFS: Most Wanted, Little King's Story and probably Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified soon (this year), so will update.

Uncharted GA (+)

Did they fix the aiming in 1.01? I didn't have a problem aiming in that game and thought the gyro was perfect for fixing fine aim. Whie I did enjoy the basic shooting aspect of the game, the encounter design, including the stealth-lite segments are far too simple or clumsily copying from previous Uncharted games.

They ape Uncharted 1 in a lot of ways, unfortunately they don't capture what was good in the story or dialogue. You can tell they were trying but they just don't have the talent of Amy Hennig, et al. at ND. They also at times slavishly copy what most would consider faults as if the later games didn't exist. Nor do they pick up on some of the gameplay innovations in Uncharted 2 like in that battle around the broken train cars in the second game that had a more complex AI.

So while I give it a positive review I wouldn't say it can compare to the mainline series

Can someone who has Ridge Racer with both Gold & Silver pass name which tracks it ends up having in total (incl on cart)? Are they all recycled or are any new?

Have been considering the "ultimate" pack on AU PSN (which includes both for a decent-er price. It's really hard to find full info on it, excepting what it says on store:

"+-" represents "±", "=" doesn't make much sense to me as you're not comparing it to anything. Maybe "o" would be better.
You are always comparing to an average game. Positive, negative or neutral. it'sthe official notation in chess too for wins, losses and draws. And it's natural to read the aggregates +7-1=3 but it's not important. If it's okay for vitabros it's ok for me.

Didn't know about the notation in chess, in that case = would be ok too I guess.

OK I have a fair few so this might take a while

Uncharted: Golden Abyss +
Graphics - fantastic. looks like the high budget game that it should be. A true "console experience" on a hand held

Gameplay - Apart from some of the gimicky touch and gyro stuff it plays very well. While the aiming feels stiff at first, once you combine it with the gyro you will wonder how you ever aimed in any other way. While I personally loved the touch screen puzzles they arnt for everyone.

Lastability - Took about 12 hours first run. I went through it 2 more times on hard and then crushing. I found all the collectables and got all the bounties. If you only want to go through it once then about 10-12 hours but if you like to collect everything and go for the trophies (all very doable) then you can get a lot of playtime out of this one.

Wipeout 2048 +

Graphics - Looks amazing. Its just a thing of beauty. The framerate is fairly consistant at 30fps but there is the occasional drop here and there, mainly in battles when everyone gets bunched up. However its not a frequent occurance and doesn't ruin the game.

Gameplay - Its wipeout. Can be a bit tricky to get to grips with controlling these hover cars but once you do you will be flying round corners at breakneck speeds. The game certainly isn't for everyone but for those who like over the top high speed racers you should be able to get a lot of fun out of this one.

Lastability - If you include the DLC the game is huge. I have no idea how much time I have sunk into this game but its a lot. I elite passed all the main campaign and am about half way through the HD DLC campaign. I have only scratched the multiplayer campaign and havnt touched the FURY campaign yet..... games pretty damn huge.

Ninja Gaiden sigma plus +-

Graphics - Looks pretty great to me but the fact it is running at native res helps this a lot. It runs at 30 FPS which is fine for me but fans of the previous versions might be put off by this.

Gameplay - Its hard. If you are expecting a simple hack and slash then stay away. This game requires lightning quick reflexes to get through.

Lastability - The people that love NG and portables will get a lot out of this. The game isn't short anyway. However I stopped playing on the last few chapters as the game became more frustrating that fun for me by the end (I loved the first half of the game).

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection +

Graphics - Amazing a PS2 game in HD can look this good.

Gameplay - The controls in both are fairly terrible but what ever. Its metal gear and you get used to them after a while. The story and attention to detail completely make up for the very dated control scheme. 2's controls are a lot worse than 3 however.

Lastability - Both games are a reasonable length. Throw in all the snake tales and VR missions as well as metal gear 1 and 2 and you have a huge amount of content to get through here.

Gravity Rush +

Graphics - The anime style graphics of this game are amazing. I thought different areas all had a unique feel to them, the design of the enemies was great and Kat is really great character to take control of

Gameplay - You fall. Well you kind of fly but really its falling because you control the direction of gravity. A fantastic concept that not everyone loved. Personally I thought it was brilliant. I have never had so much fun just flying around collecting gems. Its one downfall is its combat is rather repetitive for the most part. If you go in expecting a combat driven game you will be disappointed. Everything else however is just a pleasure to do.

Lastability - Took about 20 hours to platnum plus about 6 - 8 hours t do all the DLC.

Mod nation racers -

Graphics - Fairly bland and average. Nothing special here. The character models and cars look more interesting than the tracks though. The really issue here, and its game breaking for me, is the terrible frame rate. It gets so slow at times it completely takes control away from you.

Gameplay - if the frame rate wasn't so bad I might find the game fun. its the usual powersliding, shooting things at opponents and boosting your way to victory. The character creating is pretty good, I didn't get round to the map editor as the game annoyed me to much and I deleted it.

Lastability - Couple of hours before the frame rate makes you delete the game.

Resistance burning skies +-

Graphics - Average, which describes the whole game really. Looks fine for the most part, just not great. Never blown away by any areas or things you see. The frame rate in the single player campaign is fine but in multiplayer it drops to lvls where I got head aches. Prob its biggest downfall really. Also the cut scenes are very compressed and unskippable. Game is also insanely easy (bar the final boss of course). Saying all that I quite enjoyed the game for what it is.

Gameplay - Plays great. Shows that FPS's will works a treat on the Vita when a good one comes along. The multiplayer 4v4 is actually fun, its just the framerate drops get in the way. The weapons are quite interesting along with there secondary fire modes that are set with touch screen in a pretty decent way. Its just the multiplayer is VERY barebones. FFA, TDM and a mode where you infect humans in a last man standing type of game that is a bit crap. Really needs more modes and frame rate fix. Would be pretty fun if it wasn't for those things.

Lastability - pretty short campaign. 6 hours or there abouts. You will basically have platinumed it after one play through as well. If you can get into the online then you can have a lot of fun with it but thats a pretty big if.

Unit 13 +

Graphics - Looks pretty good. Not amazing but pretty decent. framerate is also decent as well.

Gameplay - Its a third person tactical shooter. AI is dumb as a brick but it doesn't matter. There are 36 normal missions and then 9 VIP targets. No story. Works really well as a pick up a play in bursts title. You can choose from several classes and lvl each of them up. Each has different ways to score more points. You can get up to a 5 star rank on each mission and compete to get best score with scoreboards. Also a co-op mode that is a bit meh with randoms but also a daily challenge which is a random mission you get one attempt at.

Lastability - A lot of stuff to do here if you want to get all the VIP's as you have to get 5 star rankings on all lvls (that or get the missions off near). Throw in the fact that each missions you complete opens up the ability to repeat that mission with random objectives and you got a lot to get through here. A very good title.

Mortal Kombat +

Graphics - cut scenes look great and apart from when zoomed in the character models look good as well. However when it does zoom in the character models look pretty terrible. However this doesnt take away the fact that for the most part the game looks great. Its a solid 60 FPS as well.

Gameplay - Its mortal kombat. Simple to input specials and combo's. Crazy death moves. Ai that cheats like crazy and tons of characters to play as. The story mode is excellent. It takes you through an actual story where you keep switching around to different characters. The challenge tower and bonus tower are also brilliant, giving you hundreds of challenges to complete.

Lastability - Story mode, arcade mode, online and 2 huge challenge towers to complete. There is absolutely tons of content here for you.

Ultimate Marvel Vs Campcom 3 +

Graphics - Looks amazing and runs at 60 fps. It only really sacrifices some animimation in the backgrounds but otherwise looks the same as the console version.

Gameplay - Easy to pick up and play but there is a lot to master if you want to. even has a control scheme for button mashers which I think is a great idea.

Lastability - Not even close to the amount of content that MK has but if you can get into the online then there is a lot to do here. Offline is basically arcade, challange (complete increasingly harder to do combos) and heros and heralds mode where you fight for control of areas as either a hero or galactus' herolds.

I have more games that I might put up at somepoint when I have more time.

OYCCS.jpg

It's 3 tracks per "pass" if I remember, so that makes a total of 9 tracks. There's also some content outside the passes, like the Daytona USA Hornet car.
There's also a lot of free music packs from past ridge racer games.
Maybe things will change with the release of NFSMW but currently there's a lot of replay value in this game. It's one of those games that never leaves your Vita and you always go back to for a quick race against a ghost car.

I've given some games a neutral to distinguish the truly great games from the rest of the pack. Keep in mind that I'm the kind of person who makes tons of research and make sure to get the games that I like only. Thus the list is unsuprisingly positive. I've had tons of fun on all of these games in different ways, it's difficult for me to pick one over the other at the moment. It would help to read what is being written instead of focusing on the scores :)

Retail Games

  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss +-

Prior games played: Uncharted 1 and the beginning of Uncharted 2.

This would be the first Vita game I had the pleasure to play. Its beginning was rather iffy, the chapters felt generic and not too impressive besides being a technial showcase. However the game picked up greatly, the chapters kept getting better and the game felt pretty varied. It had a great sense of being a treasure hunter, it felt varied and an overall solid title to show what the Vita is all about.

The game has its fair share of flaws though, the game touch screen segments weren't all succesful and the game's aiming need a bit of getting used to. Nontheless it's a fine Uncharted game, I thought it was definitely more fun than Uncharted 1 as far as gameplay and variety goes.

  • Everybody's Golf +

Prior games played: A fair bit of Everybody's Golf 1 on the PSP and the demo of its sequel.

Even though I've played the first PSP game a fair bit, it has been such a long time that it feels like this is my first entry to the series. Also I played the first game as a casual without trying to learn its rules or mechanics. This EG feels like it's better at introducing its rules to new players but it's more hardcore and punishing. The game starts out easy enough but it ramps up rather quickly.

I don't really have any flaws to point out, the game is pretty good to look at, the gameplay is fun and solid and it's just very addictive. It has tons of replay value for those that like to collect a lot. It's definitely worth a try if you enjoy golf games and don't mind some challenge to get to the rewarding part.

  • Little Deviants +-

This is the kind of game that is going to receive a lot of hate purely for being a mini-games collection with non-traditional controls. For those that don't mind those qualities, they'll find a fun game with some favourite mini-games and not as favourite ones.

The game is gorgeous to look at as it's 60fps, on a native resolution with vibrant colours. There is enough content there if you enjoy collecting moggers (cats) and obtaining gold scores. It's a very highscore type of game too where you can compete with scores of other players and challenge your friends. I feel like the game was received harshly and it deserves more love for people open to these kind of games, it's certainly better and more gamey than a lot of mini-games collections I've played. They tend to be more deep and have more content than what you'd expect of its kind.

  • Shinobido 2 +-

Prior games played: None.

This is one that's going to show a lot of similarities to Tenchu games both in feel and mechanics. This isn't the kind of game that is going to compete with the best looking vita games. Consider it a PS2 game with high resolution (it's native on the Vita). Not only when it comes to the graphics but also physics and how stupid the AI can be and you get the idea. It feels like this game looks better than those PS2 ones and it has progressed in comparison. When it comes to style, I like the designs of the enemies, characters and minor details such as moving fish in the water, lightning and flags with marks. I'm content enough with the way the game looks.

That aside the game is TONS of fun. It's Tenchu but with some light RPG elements such as level up, buying items and making them in the alchemy system. The alchemy system is very deep and addictive. You have different pots where you put items there with values, the higher the value the stronger the item you'll get out of it. For instance if you produce Elixer 50, you'll recover 50 of your health. You can boil your pot or dilute it for different effects. Like increasing the quantity but decreasing the values and vice versa. There are also scrolls that help you make special items such as sushi. The combat is servicable and fun too. The game has that open world feel to it where you can make choices, serve different warlords and see different endings. For that the game has high replay value and it has new game plus that carries everything and I mean EVERYTHING over.

For tenchu fans, you're ought to get it no question asked. For dudebro fans and graphic whores, don't think about it. For the people in between, make research and decide for yourself. You have to know what you're getting yourself into.

  • WipEout 2048 +

Prior games played: WipEout HD, a fair bit of WipEout Pure, a fair bit of WipEout 1 and played a demo of WipEout Pulse.

This game is a strong one. It doesn't feel dumped down in comparison to WipEout HD as it looks gorgeous and has a more current setting to it instead of too modern. The game has everything what you'd expect out of WipEout, only it's more accessible and easy to get into. A lot of the very challenging tracks have been made optional rather than mandatory, there is now elite and normal pass instead of gold, silver and bronze, and the game has somewhat wider tracks. Also weapons have been divided to defensive and offensive pods instead of just one pod. This is a good idea as it helps you be more specific with the weapons you need depending on the situation. The game still feels challenging and maybe even more so if you play the optional A+ tracks. The control lay-out has been changed for a bit but you can change it back to what you're used to. I didn't mind it and kept at that.

The game has three seasons you go through, each season getting a bit more challenging. The speed rank is simply named C, B and A this time. The grid world works very well with the touch screen, it's very addictive how you're following a skill tree and wanting to see which challenges you're going to unlock. The new tracks look very beautiful and there are already favourites out of them.

There is one real flaw with the game, and that's its loading time. They're fairly long and they were longer before the game got patched. You'll still get used to it though. More minor nitpicking would be the soundtrack, I really enjoyed it but I hoped there would be more selection. It felt like there aren't many and I listened to all of them a lot. And one last VERY minor niticking, the game is not 60 fps. It doesn't feel as fast as some of the WipEout games I've played but it still runs very smoothly and it's not much of a deal to the gameplay.

It's a great racing game that is worth playing, people who never played WipEout and want to know what all the fuss is about might want to start here.

  • Gravity Rush +

Aaaah...Gravity Rush...the game that would sell systems and save the vita. I don't think it's fair for the game and not entirely sure if it's as universal as that. The game starts with a very unique scene where you're looking at a tree with an apple, you touch the apple and then it falls underneath, neverending until it reaches another ground?! Suddenly you wake up as Kat with an amnesia, it's not as cliché as it sounds as Kat is not your typical game babe. She has a character, she acts natural, she can sound rude and yet honest and more. The game has very interesting characters, lore and world. The dialogue is thankfully very good and portrays this good enough. In fact the lore is so interesting that it wasn't enough to cover in one game. You'll find out if you get to play it.

The game is all about you controlling Kat in unique ways, her special powers to be precise. The ability to use gravity and stand in all edges and different directions. Gravity powers are also used in combat. The way you use gravity to travel is very well implemented, it feels like you're flying and you just want to use it all the time instead of walking the normal way. Speaking of walking, the game has many proper towns. They're absolutely gorgeous to look at, they're distinct and have a lot of detail to them. You can speak to some townsfolk but you can't do that with all of them. That's understandable since that could get overwhelming quickly. You can do around 20 optional missions, search for couples 16 times and find as many crystals as possible. Thus the game is full on exploration and discovery without it getting overwhelming with things to collect or do. For many people, they were hoping to do more things in town, I enjoy it just the way it is.

Now the combat...that's a different matter entirely. You can also stay in the air and attack with a gravity kick but you'll also be fighting on ground. There is the normal kick with combo's, there is dodging, throwing items, sliding and three special gravity moves. That might sound limited and to a certain extend it is a little, but it's made varied by the monster variety and being put in situations. Here's where the flaws start to creep, gravity kick is sometimes necessary, you'll be using it often. Aiming doesn't work as great, you'll be missing enemies in the air and it's not as easy to adjust quickly. The fights feel clunky and not as smooth. Also there could have been more variety with the monsters, they start getting repetitive by the end of the game.

The graphics look very unique and pretty, it's very impressive to see those towns. The game has a very unique and has an appealing style, its music is great for your ears. It's nice that you can improve your skills with a level up kind of system thanks to the crystals you collect from challenges and exploring.

In the end, this is a very good game as a first entry. Its flaws are not just mere flaws, they can distract from the game and to some people they might be unbearable. However if you're one of those people that want to play special games and cherish it for that, you know the kind of games that show similarities to Ico and Rez for instance, then you need to play this game. It might not be as polished as those games, but it delivers that something unique and different. I'm hoping a sequel comes and expands on this game.

I'll continue with the list later to give it the proper attention. Notice that I've completed all these games, at least the ones that you can technically complete with an ending and credits.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss +
Gravity Rush +
LittleBigPlanet +
Rayman Origins +
Disgaea 3 Returns +
PSN:
ZEN Pinball 2 +
Motorstorm RC -

- Retro City Ransom. Gameplay is boring, and the writing/humor is nothing but references for the sake of references. HEY GUYS REMEMBER THAT THING?!? YEAH!

- Tales from Space Mutant Blob Attack. The tiny bit of the game that feels like 2d katamari is amazing. The rest ranges from boring to outright bad.

- Soundshapes. It feels more like a tech demo with ok music than an actual game worth buying/spending money on.

-+ Unit 13. It's not great, but it's an average/competent third person shooter and if you don't have a ps3/360/PC I could imagine it being a big thing for someone.

+Mortal Kombat It's mostly just a port but it's a fantastic port and the game is just fucking great.

+ Rayman Same as MK.

+ Katamari Damacy. Way too short but if you love katamari in the past and can snag it for super cheap or a rental it's still really really fun.

Gravity Rush + (The best game I've played in 4 years.)

Blazblue + (Vita's d-pad makes gives better control than I'm used to having at Blazblue. I admit I may simply suck at it. But on Vita, I suck less!)

Shinobido 2 +- (I acknowledge its faults and still enjoyed the heck out of it. Yes, there will be a heap of AI-based frustration and meta games of outsmarting the flaws, but I still find it to be a fun game. I recommend it to people who liked the first 2 Tenchu games).

Michael Jackson: The Experience - (MJ's music is nice, but eh, this gets old quickly. If you're going to get a rhythm game on Vita, import Hatsune Miku)

Hatsune Miku Project Diva f + - (I guess it might get to you if you really, really, reeeeeally despise anime and/or J-pop, but you can still like this game even if you aren't necessarily a fan of those two things. The core of the gameplay is surprisingly fun, and you don't need to know Japanese to get it.)

Touch My Katamari + - (Fun as always, but fans have played this before. ...If you have somehow missed the series to this point, hey, scoop this up though.)

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 + (I have fun with this every time I play.)

Hot Shots Golf
+ (I have a carrying case that can hold three games in addition to the one in the Vita; this and MvC are two constants.)

WipEout 2048 + One my favorite in this futuristic racing series.)

PSN Only:
Sumioni - (Would have been a nice tech demo, but as a game, eh, falls flat. Gets boring and repetitive very quickly.)

My list:

Wipeout 2048: +

  • As a Wipeout veteran, this one is the worst Wipeout imo, but even so such a great game...great track design, atmosphere and tight gameplay, as always. On the other hand, the multiplayer is bad, boring and unbalanced, almost everyone picks Eliminator, and that sucks. And after beating the online campaign, I have yet to see A or A+ races...the few times people vote for races, it's B class almost always, and that sucks too

Everybody's Golf 6/Hot Shots Golf/Everybody's Golf: +

  • Very addictive as always and fantastic as a portable game, but if you played EG5 or any of the PSP EGs, this is more of the same. Which isn't necessarily bad

Rayman Origins: +

  • The best Vita game so far. I know it's a meme here already, but the graphics really, really shine on DAT OLED SCREEN. I couldn't believe my eyes. Seriously, buy it, even if like me you already played & finished the PS3/360 versions. The zoom function and the relics are nice additions, too.

Dokuro: +

  • This is almost an indie game. Graphics and sound are basic, but the puzzles and stages are well designed, and the game is fairly long (20-30h). Recommended.

Lumines Electronic Symphony: +

  • The same Lumines as always, it has some gameplay changes but overall they don't bring much. It's much easier than previous games in the series, you can play through all skins even if you're not a pro, and it has the best soundtrack imo. Pure electronic bliss and no Lumines 2 bullshit.

Little Big Planet PS Vita: +

  • Forget Uncharted, this is the game that should sell the system like hotcakes, but sadly, won't.
  • It's a full LBP experience, not dumbed down in any way, with really great graphics and levels, and the best touch & rear pad implementation ever. Buy it. An amazing job by Tarsier and Double Eleven, I can't wait to see their next projects.

Gravity Rush: +

  • A good game, but not the best Vita game nor GOTY by any means. Great graphics and soundtrack, but the game needs more variety, some puzzles with the gravity mechanics would have been amazing. Anyway, recommended as well.

I'm buying P4G and Virtue's Last Reward soon, so I'll add them as well when the time comes.

-BlazBlue CSEX +
goes on par with the home console version, stunning visuals

-DjMax Technika Tune +
It's technika...portable...with shitload of songs...in short the reason why i bought a Vita

-Project Diva F +
My first Diva game, catchy songs...and well another rhythm game, love 'em

-Wipeout 2048 +
First game that i played on this new device, jaw dropping, one of my fav chapter from the series

-Rayman Origins +
This game is meant to be played on a Vita, stunning and extremely fun

-Gravity Rush +
Nice experiment, wicked by visuals and gameplay, and Cat is awesome

-Uncharted GA -
Wasn't able to finish this, bored the hell out of me :(

-Super Stardust Delta +
Spent a shitload of time with this one, awesome

-Lumined ES +
-MGS HD Collection +
-Mutant Blobs Attack +

+ Gravity Rush. Best game on the system I've played so far. Amazing visuals & music and the gameplay is extremely fun once you start to master your various moves. Great controls but there is a bit of a learning curve.

+ Silent Hill: Book of Memories. Excellent Action/RPG roguelike with Silent Hill style. Feels different than your typical Diablo-style game due to the low durability of weapons.

+ Rayman: Origins. Fantastic 2D platformer. Great port but be warned that there's no multiplayer.

+- Lumines. A few gameplay tweaks result in the best playing version of one of the best puzzle series out there. On the downside, there are few modes and I thought the soundtrack was a little weak (not my style).

+- Uncharted: Golden Abyss. The weakest of the Uncharted games but even a weak Uncharted is still a decent game. Vita controls feel tacked on for the most part.

+- Touch My Katamari. Being able to morph the shape of the Katamari is a great addition to the series, however the standard levels are uninspired. Draw distance is low. There are some cool bonus levels but these either require you to buy them with real money or grind in the game (collect a bunch of items that may randomly appear).

+- Super Stardust Delta. It's a good solid version of the PS3/PSP game, but eh, I found it boring after a while.

- Dynasty Warriors Next. Found this very repetitive and not particularly fun but I hear the entire series is like this so I'm probably not the person to ask.

- Mutant Blobs Attack. Sometimes funny and fun but mostly I found it tedious.

- Motorstorm RC. Long load times and I just didn't find it very fun. But hey, it's free.

Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition (+)

I almost never buy sports games on handhelds, since the home console versions tend to be better. It's too bad, because portability would be a huge benefit to most sports games. However, I'm happy to say that the Vita version of VT4 is more than competent.

Gameplay is arcade-style, but not over-the-top, just easy to pick up and play. Controls are responsive, animation is fluid, and the physics feel right. Strategically there is some depth; you pick a play style, and following it fills your concentration gauge, which lets you unleash a super shot. Opponents have set play styles too. Graphics are probably the best I've seen on Vita. I guess it helps that the environments are relatively small and fixed.

There's the usual arcade, exhibition, and practice modes, but the main draw is World Tour mode. It's played out on a board game layout, with spaces for playing matches, tournaments, training, resting, publicity events, and more. The path regularly splits into two branches, and you're given a limited choice of how many spaces to move forward. So there's some planning and balancing involved to get an optimal playthrough. It's an interesting idea.

You can always repeat the tour with the same character as many times as you want. And in order to unlock all the gear, venues, etc, you'll need to play through multiple times. That's a good amount of content.

My first complaint is some of the training mini-games. They help add variety to the gameplay, but some of them are kind of annoying, and you need to do them to increase your stats. I would've preferred if there was only a few of the better-designed mini-games. My other complaint is that online multiplayer is marred by lag and occasional disconnects. Which is unfortunate, because human opponents tend to be more dynamic than AI opponents.

Overall I'm quite satisfied with VT4, and I'm glad I bought it for Vita, since it's conducive to quick play sessions. It may not be groundbreaking or sophisticated, but it's a solid, fun, well put-together package of a tennis game.

are you really going to update the op with the name of people reviewing the game? for each game? I don't think there's a space for it. maybe just count the total review. like metal gear have 9 (+) and 1 (+-). listing all the name of people for every game reviewed is too much I think, maybe just pick 1 or 2 people's review, 1 review for each stances sounds good, 1 for positive, 1 for negatives, and 1 for neutral.

I don't expect paragraphs upon paragraphs of text or anything, but hopefully people who just put a + or - next to a game without anything else will just refrain from reviewing in the first place.

+ Disgaea 3 Absence of Detention
Addictive strategy RPG with a lot of depth and humor. This is by far the Vita game I've spent the most time in.

+ Dynasty Warriors Next
Mindless hack-and-slash with a lot of content. Some people might be put off by its repetitiveness and reliance on Vita gimmicks.

+ Gravity Rush
Open-world game in which you play as a charming character who can shift gravity. Gameplay is a bit shallow though.

+ New Little King's Story
Real-time strategy, action RPG, and city-building simulation in one compact package. Framerate issues are annoying but not game-breaking.

- Resistance Burning Skies
Easy platinum trophy, but that's the only thing I really liked about it. It's also the only game I ever sold.

+ Sound Shapes
Simple music-based platformer. Level creator is very easy to use.

- Super Stardust Delta
I liked the concept, but it got repetitive. I probably got burned out by the huge number of dual-stick shooters on the iPhone.

+ Virtua Tennis 4
Fun arcade tennis game with some really impressive graphics and short loading times. It's a perfect game for short gaming sessions.

+ Wipeout 2048
I'm awful at this, but it's definitely a solid racing game. Be sure to buy the HD/Fury DLCs.

MGS 2/3 HD +
BlazBlue CS Extend +
Shinobido 2 +/-
LBPV +/-
Paint Park +
Gravity Rush +/-
LoH:TitS +
Corpse Party +

I am so wanting P4G.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss +
A really impressive translation of the series to the Vita. A great story, fun characters continue to be fun, and the aiming is better than ever before thanks to the gyro. The big "set pieces" are mostly missing when compared to its console counterparts, but the game doesn't suffer from a narrower focus.

Gravity Rush +
Not since Super Mario Galaxy have I played a game where simply traversing the game world is such a sheer joy. The gravity mechanics feel incredibly free and the game is really fun.

Resistance: Burning Skies +
I've rated all three games here +, and Resistance perhaps less so than the others, but it's still worth playing. I enjoyed it for what it is: a simple straightforward shooter with good console-like controls. Some of the design choices are irritating (watching those low res cutscenes every time you load your save, for instance), but I recently had a long train ride, and this game helped pass the time pretty well. I should mention that I haven't really touched the MP.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss (+)

LittleBIGPlanet Vita (+)

Sound Shapes (+-) (too small, too pricey)

Gravity Rush (+) (unrefined, but worth the plus for its ideas)

MGS Collection (+)

Resistance: Burning Skies (-) (i could really add a second minus in there)

Mortal Kombat (+) (fantastic port)

Super Stardust Delta (+) (instant addiction)

Unit 13 (-) (small, repetitive, generic)

MotorStorm RC (+-) (fun, but forgettable)

Wipeout 2048 (+-) (classic WipeOut, 30FPS, with DLC included it's a plus)

edit:

Rayman: Origins (+) (amazing platformer, best game Vita has atm for me)

Little Deviants (-) (horrific experience, game that is an ad for Vita's feautres)

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita (+)

Best LittleBigPlanet hands down. The graphics really pop on the Vita screen. Best music in the series as well (where can I get this soundtrack?!) Controls feel right at home on the Vita. That and the fact that all your purchased DLC carries over onto the Vita is great. Touch and tilt lend themselves well to the series. My favorite Vita purchase since getting the system near launch. :)

Littlebigplanet Vita +

Such an awesome game. The extra touch screen input alone makes it much better than the console LBP's. Even though I am very early in the game I am enjoying it immensely. The mini games are just incredible. Then you go to the multiplayer and there are 1000 players online at most. Such a shame really, it should be a million.

Rayman Origins

+ Picture perfect port of the console version
+ Looks and plays fantastic

Mutant Blobs Attack

+ Great art
+ Fun gameplay
+ Price is awesome

MGS HD Collection

+ MGS3 is still pretty much the best game ever made
+ Controls great, touchscreen additions doesn't hamper the scheme
- Not native res
- Small "lag" moment when opening Survival Viewer in MGS3(because the SV is native res I think)

Sound Shapes

+ Great platforming
+ Great music by Beck
- If you're not interested in the level creator there may not be enough in it for you
- Art can feel uninspired

Motorstorm RC

+ Plays great on the go
+ Great physics on the cars
- No multiplayer(not every game needs multiplayer, but this one should've had)

Escape Plan

+ Kind of inspired art
+ Plays great on the go
+ Controls usually works great
- It's boring if you don't like puzzle games
- Controls can feel clumsy at times

Crash Bandicoot 2: Warped

+ It's frikken Crash Bandicoot

Gravity Rush = +

A remarkable title in almost all aspects. Fantastic atmosphere, graphics, gameplay and very likeable characters (including NPC's) Highly recommended to all. Almost forgot, the music....it's so damn good. It's filled with personality and style..just like almost everything in this game.

Golden Abyss = +
A departure from the console brethren. So don't go in expecting an identical experience. This game is much more of an adventure game than an action/adventure one. Nice story, fantastic visuals and some really brilliant use of the vita hardware.

Unit 13 = +
Such an underrated title. A TPS that works great mechanic wise and a well thought out mission based structure to boot. Excellent for on the go action.

UMVC3 = +
Gotta hand it to the devs. The game looks and plays brilliant on the OLED. My most played game on the system. In between buying games this is the game I play the most. TaskMaster FTW!

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (+)
Full MGS in your hands and they play incredibly well. Must own.

Uncharted Golden Abyss (+)
Similar more to the first Uncharted game
it looks gorgeous on the Vita, plays extremely well and the treasure hunting actually means something. Must play.

Shinobido 2 (+)
As other have stated - like the first Tenchu games. If you don't like the genre you won't like this. Must buy if you are a fan of the genre.

MLB 12 The Show (+-)
Baseball on the go. Take it or leave it.

Resistance Burning Skies (+-)
Dual analog shooter (!) - otherwise it's very bland and not that interesting. Easiest platinum ever. Maybe a rental at best.

Ridge Racer (+-)
It's new Ridge Racer....with 3 tracks out of the box. Gold and Silver passes are a must to get any enjoyment out of it. All depends on how much you like the series, and even at that you have about 300MB of downloads (this includes all the music as well) before you get a decent experience. I couldn't really recommend this since Ridge Racer PSP is cheaper and much much better then RRVita.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus (+)
It's Ryu slicing and dicing on the go. Fantastic port and really stunning visually on the Vita. Outside of the horrible forced touch screen bow controls this game plays exactly like Sigma on the PS3 does. Must buy for fans of the series - must play for action fans.

Great thread btw. Subscribed.

Edit - spelling.

OP looks very good, nice job! :)

^

Thanks! It's much more work than I expected!

Just about finished the retail section, will add the last reviews tomorrow and then do the PSN part

Keep it up if you can! I did warn you ;) but the updates are excellent...I personally do like links to each review..but it will be hard work if people aren't writing in-depth reviews..

Good thread. Although not good for my wallet!

Ditto.

Subbed in case of a second shortage ;) Will add my own reviews soon hopefully.

Ok retail titles done for now - I'll keep adding reviews as people give them. (only if they are a sentence or more)

Just starting to add PSN titles now.

Uncharted Golden Abyss +
+ nice prequel adventure
+ Nate has a backpack
+ Great graphics, although no native resolution
- slowburner, only halfway through the rollercoaster ride starts
- sometimes the required use of touch controls was a bit hit and miss

Hot Shots Golf +
+ it is Hot Shots Golf, need to say more?
+ nice characters and courses, imo one of the best HSG's till date
- no native resolution

Gravity Rush +
+ great art-style
+ nice music
+ a triumph of imagination
+ nice cartoon style sequences
- missions sometimes boring and repetitive
- no native res is very visible and harming the look a little bit

Metal Gear HD Collection +
+ Very nice, crisp looking port
+ the MSX games are included
+ MGS3 is one of the best games ever and a dream to play on a handheld, even if it isn't 60 fps

Motorstorm RC +
+ the closest you get these days to the old glory days of Super Offroad
+ nice for short bursts

Sunflower +
+ Damn this is soo addictive

Zen Pinball 2 +
+ nice graphics
+ better physics than Zen Pinball 1
+ wide range of downloadable tables

Pure Chess +
+ great chess game, intelligent AI
+ With the update now possible to lock the camera
- no real multuplayer

Hustle Kings +
+ great portable pool game
+ great graphics
+ a must-buy for every pool lover

Virtua Tennis 4 +
+ it plays, looks, and sounds great with a nice set of courts and great customization possibilities and a nice world tour

Mutant Blobs +-
I see it's quality but is not my cup of tea, I didn't like some of the touch controls but for platformer fans a safe buy

Pinball Arcade +-
+ unbeatable and very good physics (better than Zen Pinball 2)
- graphics are so-so
- didn't like it as much as Zen Pinball 2, also not the best tables are included and only as DLC

nicely put together thread, tamaster :)

I will hopefully contribute soon, although the games I own aren't exactly in dire need of more reviews.

Fake edit: actually, Super Stardust could use some more love. Will write something about that!

Uncharted: Golden Abyss (-)

If you want a pretty technical demonstration of what the Vita can do, this is probably one of the best ports of call. But once the appeal of the eye candy wears off (I give it around 10 minutes), what you are left with is a vapid, by-the-numbers entry in the series. If you have ever played any Uncharted before, you already know this game inside and out: cover based shooting against waves of identikit baddies - check. The odd spot of platforming where Drake inevitably falls at one point but then just makes it and omg its so exciting - check. Puzzles which are about as mentally stimulating as "turn this statue 90 degrees" - check. Waggle controls are frequently annoying, making you tilt the entire unit like a baboon whenever you want to throw a grenade and encouraging you to feverishly rub the screen at any opportunity (perhaps as some sort of metagame scratch and sniff dynamic to literally smell the bullshit). I suppose Drake's new sidekick is kind of cute but everyone in it looks a bit lumpy so its difficult to even play for digital titillation reasons. And with no online to speak of and a premium asking price just 'cause it's Uncharted, it feels like rubbish value.

Tales of Innocence R (JAP only)
Release Date January 26, 2012
(+)

ToI R has solid gameplay. It brings the engaging, action packed, hack and slash type of battles to the Vita. Skills can be equipped by each character and spells (artes) can be assigned to directional buttons or sticks. You can chain combos with all four party members using normal attacks or special abilities.

Characters are not the flashy type from Tales of Destiny or Final Fantasy but they grow on you as the story goes by and eventually you'll like them.

Skits are present as always. Some have voice-overs, some don't.

Gameplay music is not that bad. The new opening theme from KOKIA is really nice.

Overall, I find the game great. I'm hoping that the US can get this great game soon.

Virtua Tennis 4 (+)

Probably the only game so far that 'lived to the promise' imo. Game looks stunning at native res and has a solid 60fps during gameplay. It is literally the console game on a handheld (with better loading times as well! Think character models maybe a tiny bit less detailed though).

Game is also quite fun to play as well, with tons of features and a good single player portion, and online play.

One of the few games to date for the console that doesn't feel like a launch title imo.

What about the free games?

Ecolibrium (-)
Seems like funnat first, maintain your own ecosystem. It's pretty too. But in the end, you'll spend most of your time waiting. A waste of time.

Treasure park (-)
Hiding treasures on a small grid for your friends to discover is fun for a couple of days. Sending one and one challenge to friends is really tedious and boring though.

Treasures of montezuma blitz (-)
Hidden payement. Pay for your crystal bundle, or be bored like I was? (I never bought the "dlc")

Frobisher says (+-)
Really limited if you don't buy dlc. It's a lot like warioware though. Quite fun.

Ok retail titles done for now - I'll keep adding reviews as people give them. (only if they are a sentence or more)

Just starting to add PSN titles now.

I've updated my games and added a review of Gravity Rush besides expanding WipEout 2048 and Shinobido 2. I suppose it's important to leave these kind of replies more often so you don't miss them :)

Treasures of montezuma blitz (-)
Hidden payement. Pay for your crystal bundle, or be bored like I was? (I never bought the "dlc")

Did you play it before or after the big update? It was shit before it, but it's much better now. You can easily play sessions of ~20-30 mins every day, steadily leveling up without paying anything, at least that's what I'm doing.

Super Stardust +- (It's not that I dislike the game, but more that I can't get used to playing it on a vita over my PS3, fun game though)

WipEout 2048 + (Probably the single best WipEout game in existence)

Hmm, all my other Vita games are from PSP or PSX, haha. I need to get some more games. Perhaps this thread will help me.

Uncharted:Golden Abyss(+) Awesome graphics, the game is better than uncharted:drake's fortune overall but the stupid touch elements especially the final boss should have been optional or remedied.

Resistance:Burning Skies(+) Nice SP and a simplistic but fun MP,decent graphics, easy platinum, the framerate online is a bit spotty at times and with the latest patch the matchmaking has been improved considerably and the weapons are now balanced well.

LBP PSvita(+) Best version of LBP ,great graphics and OST,truly looks like LBP2 on the handheld and plays even better due to the smart use of touch controls.

Wipeout 2048(+) Excellent SP races, very nice graphics and fluid framerate though the AI could get a bit rubberband-y.

Rayman Origins(+) The definitive SP version of the game, looks amazing on the OLED,native res and runs at 60fps.

Gravity Rush(+) Beautiful graphics including the art style, runs well, well structured open world, excellent game overall though could use well made side missions in addition to the challenges which get a bit tough at times.

No, I played it when it first came out.

Maybe my review shouldn't count.
