October Nintendo Direct Prediction and Speculation

So are you backing her claim? I really don't want to get my hopes up too much for a 3DS Youtube app. Even if one does come I foresee some type of disappointment like not being able to watch 3D videos or just being a terribly programmed app like the Netflix app complete with terrible quality videos (c'mon guys, you couldn't even get a 240p stream working without ridiculous compression artifacts?).

I'm not necessarily backing her claim, simply that I don't think she's making anything up in this case :).

I bet he just worded it like a dumb-dumb and it's just "wow i got to play final versions of nintendoland or rayman or blahblahblah and it's awesome, this should be a system seller"

He could flat out say "Wii U games are shaping up really well. The latest builds show promise of "must have" games!", and dickheads would still drag that out to "RETRO IS ANNOUNCING THEIR NEW MATURE HARDCORE GAME THURSDAY".

Perhaps a small glimpse of what comes after the Launch Window, fast and not too detailed.

I think some of you are setting yourselves up to be deflated. There is no reason for Nintendo to show a reel of upcoming games because they know this system is going to sell out until at least March of next year. A few months after that is E3 and then they can roll out the hype.

Don't forget, the new batch of Mario 2 DLC will be out soon.
Even though I want a 100% Wii U focused direct, they'll have to address that.

I'm sure this would be the case but the way he worded his first two tweets is undeniably misleading.

There are a full two and a half months between the end of the launch window and E3. They have to announce the Q2 2013 lineup at some point, considering that Bayonetta 2 and Injustice are (AFAIK) the only titles currently announced for post-launch-window.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, there aren't any Japanese third-party titles announced for the entirety of 2013, other than DQX.

Those months will be empty.

We'll get new game announcements at E3. The post launch drought isn't exactly a new concept for Nintendo consoles.

Is it possible that Nintendo Land has more than 12 games? :O
I wouldn't mind new games sent through SpotPass later on (or whatever the Wii U equivalent of SpotPass is). Star Fox, Fire Emblem and Pokemon shouldn't be excluded of a Nintendo Theme Park.

Barren of huge releases? Quite possibly. Literally barren? Not likely.

For now, I expect some actual, albeit probably non-megaton, announcements from at least the standard bimonthly Japanese NDs this month and in December.

That is a common thing for every console released. I'm OK with that though. It'll mean more time to get rid of my backlog and I'll have MH to work through.

Virtual Console or HD remasters should be filling in those gaps, but judging from how Nintendo has handled VC on 3DS, I'm not feeling very confident in the Wii U's ability to keep me playing during those months leading up to E3.

I'm not complaining, though. There's a ton of games coming out next spring... not for Wii U.

I just want information on WiiU OS/online features along with hands-on from final builds of the launch games. Maybe the former in a Nintendo Direct and an embargo on the latter breaking on Thursday?

Reading through his tweets again, including the last one, I think it is more likely he is just reviewing one of the already known games and a preview will be out Thursday.

I dont even think they have final WiiU systems, Nintendo hasnt even shown off everything to be giving it out to the press.

Yeah, that's fair. Amazing that, other than Injustice and A:CM, none of the big multiplatform games for the first half of next year seem to be coming.

Wasn't there some press event going on this week where journalists were able to play final builds of NSMBU and NintendoLand (along with maybe other WiiU titles)?

Remember there's also the investors meeting and the fiscal/sales numbers for Q3 will be revealed this week. I think it's more than just a review. The chances to have a Nintendo direct by the end of the week are high.

I think there is a decent chance for some sort of Nintendo Direct. But I'm not convinced IGN knows anything about it.

Nintendo Directs normally happen at like 1:00 a.m on Thursdays for me. Right now it's 1:53 p.m Tuesday.

Edit: What in the world happened? I see a bunch of people got banned.

...am I allowed to ask?

For those who think there will be a big post launch drought, I think you may be wrong in this case. Nintendo has a lot that they pushed back to early next year like Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, Rayman, Wii Fit U, and probably a few others that I can't remember off of the top of my head. Should at least be better than 3DS or NDS.

There is a possibility that those then get pushed out of the "launch" period though, I half expect a delay on The Wonderful 101.

Haha, no worries. I'm not gettin the hopes to high. But would be nice to see something :D like that.

What I do want to see is about online features and MiiVerse.

The pessimist in me says:

Rayman in March
Wii Fit U in May
Pikmin 3 in August
The Wonderful 101 in the Fall

According to Pachter (yes, yes, I know), Nintendo "will not hold a call for the release" of the Q2 earnings tomorrow, and "has not scheduled a press briefing for the next day."

I don't think Nintendo normally does calls (though I could be wrong), but the latter would be very strange for mid-year results. Still no briefing scheduled on their IR site, though...

...Why they shouldn't do the briefing? We need it, they're the only ones releasing numbers :(

Nintendo's Q2 earnings results will be releasing tomorrow in the early AM (EST), right? If there's a shareholder meeting, that's going to happen on Thursday. I kind of doubt we'll see a Nintendo Direct this week just for that reason.

I'm pretty sure we've had earnings reports and Nintendo directs in the same week before

GTAVBelieve.

Nintendo's only announcing through Q1 though, we could still get more multiplatform annoucements (probably more late ports).

I don't know where else to put this, now that we have no general Wii U thread-

Don't read every thread (and there's not a general Wii U thread to check up on now :P ), but was the reason to disallow console-specific threads to avoid hives forming? People who are an insulated sub-group of the larger forum that have a tendency to generate their own paranoid theories on the world and would then spread that elsewhere? (Thinking IGN GameCube General Board last gen and that PS3 forums that was made fun of so much in 2007 from this gen, as examples.)

A lot of people were saying the opposite: that we would see a Nintendo Direct because of the earnings results being released.

I just want something at this point, and if all Thursday brings is some kind of IGN impressions of the console since they're getting their review unit, it's better than what we got last week.

One of the mods on here explained it being due to a lot of information getting posted only in the Wii U thread, with very few new threads about Wii U being made. As they put it, a console launch is a big deal so the fist page of the forum should reflect that with more than a single thread about the console.

So why when I make WiiU threads they delete them?

That leads me to believe that dont want new threads

If that was the prevailing rationale, I'd say it applied more to certain other threads that I will politely refrain from naming. Though there was some of that in the Wii U thread, to be sure.
