A lot of games sold more then what I thought..

2 games on the list were supposed to be bigger hits then that..the publishers screwed up shipping.

:(

Poor Umbrella Chronicles and DQ:S...your publishers really dropped the ball :(

Well, considering Umbrella Chronicles is now above 160,000 in Famitsu numbers, I think it did okay. It will continue to climb as well. Probably end up around 220k-230k. I don't know how Square-Enix dropped the ball on Dragon Quest Swords, though.

Edit: Stump, Resident Evil debuted about 20k higher in Famitsu numbers. Also it has two more weeks of sale added on top of that. The cut-off date for these numbers is December 2nd, while we have numbers through the 17th or something like that.

Square Enix didn't ship enough copies for the following weeks and the game dropped like 10 tonne boulder.

Umbrella Chronicles had a great first week but didn't get enough copies shipped out for the following weeks. Viink always reported sold out but the MC/Famitsu data reported low sales :( It could have reached 200k much more quicker and would have been reaching 300k right now if Capcom had done a good job at shipping.

SE just didn't ship enough for the first week. After that, the game was quickly losing steam, and was actually having a price collapse.

Alright Jonny, do one for PS3 games and then 360 for comparison.

I'm pretty sure that this is a Wii exclusive for now. It's not just a Wii compilation of already known data, but this also tracks what each game did off the charts.

That's the best part of this list.

The first week would be the most important because that's when the most copies are sold. Once DQS flooded the used retail channel there was zero incentive to buy new.

Pretty much.

This is why you don't make games 10 hours long with no replay value.

List of some games that has not been updated in Famitsu Top 30 for a long time (and also didn't show up in the Famitsu 1H07 portable sales), or who have significant increase compared to the last time they show up in Famitsu Top 30 list.

Code:
2006 Release :
Swing Golf Pangya 70000 (17000)
SD Gundam Scad Hammers 48000 (9000)

2007 Release :
Eyeshield 21: Field Saikyou no Senshitachi 28000 (8000)
Sonic to Himitsu no Ring 30000 (11000) (Sonic and the Secret Rings ??)
Bokujou Monogatari Yasuragi no Ki 62000 (22000) (aka Harvest Moon : Tree of Peace ??)
Donkey Kong Taru Jet Race 86000 (30000)
Momotarou Dentetsu 16 44000 (11000)
Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakkyuu Wii 120000 (48000)
Sengoku Musou Katana 35000 (17000)
Mario Strikers Charged 86000 (28000)
Dragonball Z Sparking Neo 143000 (67000)

I was surprised at the Jikkyou game, since the last time it show up on Famitsu Top 30 is July 29, 2007 (second week after release), at 63K sales #, and has not show up ever since.

Goes with my theory that many Wii games are slow burners due to many Wii owners not keeping up on what games are coming out and when.

Manjimaru, you might want to replace "average" with "median" or "high-low drop average". Average really isn't applicable to such small datasets.

I don't think the existence of slow-burning games on the Wii does anything to support that there are more slow-burning games on the Wii than other consoles. Someone like donny, Josh, or Moor Angol would probably be able to calculate the "average percentage of sales done off-charts" or even "average leg length" to test it, though.

Two right now (Wii Sports, Wii Play), although Mario Party 8 will break 1mln in January and Wii Fit could easily hit 1mln over the next 3-4 months.

Third parties predominantly put their eggs in the PS3 basket. (Nevertheless, DQ Swords > all PS3 games.)

It wouldn't surprise me if Wii Fit hit a million in a few weeks. Galaxy has got a shot over the next 3-4 months.

wii software numbers never cease to baffle me. its almost in inverse proportion with hardware sales in regard to some of the biggest titles

at this rate you'd think wii sports 2 would be out, with another well on its way next year

Except that Nintendo has historically been disinclined to do rote sequels except for with Mario Party. Virtually every other Nintendo franchise has at least two years between sequels and substantial improvements made or new content added. Hence why there's one of each Mario sports title per generation, one-two Zelda titles, one or so Mario title, etc.

But they are continuing their "Wii *" line. Wii Music is the next one after Wii Fit.

I'm sure the software numbers for the PS2 when it had a 4 million userbase weren't as pretty either (in fact they were probably much worse).

Only if you ignore Nintendo games. I doubt any publisher sold 8 million plus copies of software on the PS2 in its first year.

This is really low.
Through Dec. 2nd, Wii was at 3,945,429 so it means its tie ratio was 2.81.
This is really really low given the fact that nearly 0.5 of that came from Wii Play too.
Wii Software sales in Japan is pathetic.

Wow, I never noticed Wii software is so ridiculesly top loaded.

1 Wii Sports Nintendo 176000 2250000
2 Hajimete no Wii Nintendo 174000 1832000
3 Mario Party 8 Nintendo 265000 905000

2250000 + 1832000 + 905000 = 4,987,000

4,987,000 / 11,087,500 = .44978

So basically 45 percent of all Wii software is from these 3 games.

Wow, thats crazy consider one is a basically a controller packed with a 10 dollar game and all three are party games.

Maybe the whole "electronic board game" idea isn't so far fetch.

I don't feel bad for third parties at all. How much shovelware, ports, and how many low budget games do people have to put up with? I don't see third parties putting their best foot forward, either. Hopefully 2008 will be better, but based on my discussions with Japanese gamers many feel the quality of Wii games to be not so good. I admit that this is only a small sample of gamers, but that much has been consistent between my students. Sure there have been some games that have fallen through the cracks, but overall what have been the big budget, high quality games released on the Wii by third parties? Most of these companies should be happy their games sold as much as they have. Third parties should be considering how to improve their image on the Wii, but that will take a lot of effort and I wonder how many of them really want to bother with that.

Though, I would love to see where the PS2 was at this point in its lifetime.
