The latest sales are in from Japan for the week starting 12/11 and ending 18/11, and surprisingly the PS3 is holding on in there with its new 40GB model, fighting off Nintendo’s Wii for another week. The Xbox360 also sees a rise, and Super Mario Galaxy and Heavenly Sword also having respectable sales. Find out the numbers after the jump.

Be interesting to see the Media Create numbers. There is usually a difference between Famitsu and MC but 17,000 sales isn't going to suddenly turn against the PS3.

Maybe it is beginning, but after two weeks of sales I think that would be pretty early to foretell. Few more weeks of this and Ninty might start to sweat, but if they want to counter all they have to do is start bundling Wii Sports in with the Wii. Insta-success methinks, especially with Wii Fit around the corner too.

360 seems to be doing better since the price drop as well, up from 3,000 to 5,000. Not brilliant, but its certainly better than they were doing.

Or why you just didn't just plainly state that it topped the chart...

Are you a tool who is insecure about Wii topping the chart for almost a year total?

edit: And 17k is hardly a number to orgasm over. It'll need to keep this up for 6 months.

Momentum is only temporary, Sony is still bombing in all other territories.

PS3 will never reach Xbox 360 sales.

PS3 will reach Gamecube sales in 2010.

FFXIII will be scrapped as a CG project and/or 360 port confirmed.

No offense taken. I'd be saying the same thing for other systems as well. I just think that the OP in a sales thread should just be fact fact fact while giving all competition good coverage. Then after that, the crazy antics begin :D .

I did forget to say that these numbers ARE impressive, in a sense that it's pretty sudden. The PS3 has a good lineup for Christmas and it will be interesting to see if this trend continues further.

the lack of PS3 titles on the chart make me think that the Japaneses are buying it only because with the new prices the hardware is too much tempting... or rather:

Does it say what the sell-through was? I was under the impression Wii sales are down because there's no hardware to be had. Is that not the case?

Well it kind of is, if you read up on any Sony threads you'd know how much Sony executives have been anticipating this moment. It's potentially a turning point for the console.
