The pagoda trials commence!
#1 Goriki
I went into this fight without a restore materia equipped... which really sucked. I used magic hammer at the start, in hopes of draining enough of his MP so he couldn't cast regen... but he casted it anyway! Jerk. I then used mighty guard, which is one of my favorite skills in the game (barrier + mbarrier + haste!). I won in the end, using Yuffie's second limit break to cure instead of cure spells (which I didn't have!)
#2 Shake
Equipped restore this time! This fight was pretty easy, though his bomber attack was stronger than I expected. Mighty guard once again! I won with health in the yellow, since I was banking on my limit break to kill him. Fortunately, it did!
#3 Chehof
This guy does a petrifying move, so I put the jewel ring on RedScarlet (Yuffie!) to prevent that. Opened with mighty guard (surprise!) and then tried to poison him. It took 4 tries, but it finally worked. After that, I just physically attacked (healing when my health got too low from his HP drain move) and won eventually.
#4 Stanif
This guy's pretty hilarious. He's slow, and all he can do is physically attack and cause sadness. After using mighty guard, I can attack 3-4 times for every 1 of his. I beat him without even having to heal.
#5 Godo
The head honcho, and the last fight of the pagoda. Who will win? Well, me, I hope!
He has a lot of HP. About 10,000, in fact. How do I know that? Well, because he forget to equip elemental-gravity on his armor. He's totally weak to gravity/demi, and I exploited that in my fight! 5000 damage in the first turn with 'laser' (enemy skill), yeah! 2500 on the second, awesome! Unfortunately, when he's low on HP, he likes to heal for about 1300... which really stinks. The battle dragged on a bit towards the end, but thanks to haste (from mighty guard!), I eventually won.
I started these fights at level 27, and ended at level 30. Pretty good experience! You also get, like, 40,000 gil for winning, which is wonderful.
Leviathan is also a pretty cool reward.
As is this beautiful father-daughter moment! I guess I should be keeping an eye on my materia in the future, though.
