Is this the version that just launched on gog?
yessir. they ripped out the Square Enix account nonsense. Is this the version that just launched on gog?
Just checked, and no, it's still the same.Did they update the graphics any?
This is why the 7th Heaven mods are so great. They actually upgrade the game.
Is 7th Heaven mod manager still compatible with this, do you know? I'm guessing yes based on your list of changes. Shouldn't fundamentally change anything with the modsBuilt-in controller support (previous version needed Steam Input or a mod), built in cheat functionality, also the old version required you to sign in with a Square Enix account / launcher thing in order to play and this version does not.
I thought I had the game before on my steam but nope i didnt.
just bought a copy for 5$ and I got the 2 versions on my steam ( just in case the new version is bugged or something ).
Was gonna mention that, the final price of the old version was $4.79. Kinda lucky if you bought a key and they honored it.
Haven't tried myself, but I'm seeing reports that the old mods will need to be re-written for the new game code and/or GOG version of the game. My guess is that they'll eventually get updated since this new version is now the only way for new customers to buy the game.Is 7th Heaven mod manager still compatible with this, do you know? In some cases the use of mods is made very easy on GOG. For those wanting a more ease of use experience GOG is the way to go.It's on GOG now as well. Skip Steam and get it DRM free.

Amazing how companies can still fuck up this badly.Jesus Fucking Christ, Square.
I just fucking knew they'd fuck it up. The re-release of the game isn't just a DRM-free version of the 2012 port. That would've been great. Instead, it has a godawful smear filter applied to all of the backgrounds, so they're all a nigh-undecipherable mess, and the character models don't blend in at all. When you load the game up, the DotEmu logo pops up, and they're terrible at everything to do with re-releases, so... yeah, something changed, and they fucked it up. It's the same shit as with their FF8 and FF9 re-releases, but probably worse. It looks terrible.
This release is trash, and nobody should buy it. There's a ton of negative reviews on Steam, so hopefully Square gets the message, and just gives us the old release without the DRM. I was so excited to have a DRM-free version of FFVII PC, but with how shit Square is, this is probably all we'll ever get.
I hate this.
OG backgrounds with no blurred bullshit will be better as AI improves constantly, and they won't update every year-or-two if they do it now. They should make an updated version with AI upscaled backgrounds instead of the blurry mess we got right now.
And new achievements so I can 100% it all over again (though the old one had 36 and the new one has 31)
