Batteries the CRISIS!
Yeah, these numbers aren't very interesting without context -- how many Wiis, 360s and DSes have they sold in Italy?

That seems hard to believe. PS2 increasing by 10 percent in the last 2-3 months?

Aside the fact that those are official numbers, even if we want to take everything with a grain of salt (and I'm not questioning that's not the right attitude), I don't find it hard to believe at all that Italy's leading console, a smashing success that eclipsed even that of PSOne and that (Ps2) received a price cut in all the main outlets from €129 to €99 in the last few months, managed to outsell Ps3 roughly 9 to 1.

It's not the outselling of other systems, just that it seems a huge jump in a very short time for a system that's already been around so long. Price cut bump goes a long way to explaining it.

Holy shit @ PS2 :lol . Too bad we don't have any Wii, 360 numbers to compare.

Yeah, I know, just to give an idea I can give the numbers that are going around in the b2b magazines, they're not official per se so I preferred to not mention it in a thread with official numbers and also I didn't want some fellow italian gaffer pointing at me as the son of vgchrrtzz :lol

Wii: 170k
360: 200k
DS: 1.3 m

They're just here to make a comparison IF YOU WANT, they're not official in any way they're only (less or more accurate) guesses based on b2b magazines and the words of Francois Storelli (EA Italy, general manager) and John Holder (THQ Italia, general manager).

Well, I'm sorry but I'm no analyst so I can't help you there.
And along with the data there was just the usual PR blurb from Sony but no "explanation" of the sort.

Sort of a side note, but apparently Sony expects to sell more PS2s this year than last.

Wow, these numbers are pretty low. I reckon in Spain (roughly 10 million inhabitants less than Italy) PS3 was already close to the 350-400k mark 2 months ago.

those numbers were before price drop - but keep in mind that people buy consoles in Italy, just at price - shit load of PS2's, PSP's and NDS's are being sold.

Something like 40k PSP's and 60k NDS's in slow months, as well as around 50k PS2's if I remember correctly. Thats freakin September in Italy.

With those numbers I'd say much of mainland Europe is irrelevant.
Well... Italy certainly wasn't irrelevant for the PS2 if those numbers are right. Not great figures for any next gen console though.

Mainland Europe isn't irrelevant with those DS/PSP/PS2 numbers for Italy but I would have do agree that those nations won't move enough consoles to outright save a system or help it downright dominate.

Fixed, and (now) it's right!

SCE Spain put out a press release saying 250K at the end of September or sometime in October.

No problemo. Thx for your effort.

Looking at those sales makes me shocked about game sales in Aus..Isn't Italy a much bigger gaming market then Aus or are we just about equal?

thats just wrong. We have PS2 selling 50k in Italy in September. Italy is AT BEST the 5th biggest European market.

Do your calculations, Europe should easily, easily outsell US's PS2 sales, which are good anyway. Same goes for PSP as well.

At this point (September) those ppl are not buying PS3/360/Wii at large quantities, probably due to pricing in September.

Interestingly enough SCEE is helping things out... a lot of retailers are charging about 69.90 Euros for Uncharted (a first party developed title they publish themselves)... it is almost as if they do not want to sell their games...

Well i'd say there wish is about to be granted, which pisses me off because uncharted deserves alot more.

Well, just because the EU is so good against cartels... the stores which are seing SCEE's first party developed games increase well over the 59.90 Euros barrier are seeing MS's first party published games rise over that barrier too, joining Sony at 64-69 Euros games.

PS2 is still popular here, yesterday i watched a comic show and for 2 times i saw commercial for PS2 games, not PS3... meanwhile i remember after Scotland - Italy match for Euro Cup, i saw SMG commercial and Wii Sports was showed many times in the latest week after the evening news.
PS3 is not selling so good due to high price and HDTV not so high popularity.

Another point for PS2 is piracy... PS3 will become popular in Italy when backup will be available. This is the rule in my country, it happened with PS1, with PS2, with Xbox, it will happen with PS3...

Exactly what I've been saying as well, yet some people continue to put too much stock into certain countries helping out systems significantly.

Whenever someone posts numbers of a certain European country, everyone is like "whoah they are irrelevant"... of course they alone are irrelevant, but as a whole they're not irrelevant at all. Italy + Germany + France + Spain have probably bought more PS2 than Japan.

LTD, I find that unlikely. In September? Sure.

Germany has >5m PS2, France is supposed to be an even larger market when it comes to consoles, Italy has 4.5m, Spain is still Sonyland.

Well... 45m PS2 in Europe have to come from somewhere.

PS3 - 270,000

Wasn't there some news that PS3 sold 100k in France in one week recently?
