Ukrainian group FEMEN Stage topless protest to protest Iranian death sentence

The Group

FEMEN is a provocative Ukrainian Kiev based protest group, founded in 2008. The organization is internationally known for topless protests against sex tourism, sexism, lack of hot water in student dormitories, Ukraine not winning any medals at the 2010 Olympic Winter games in Vancouver, modern erotic art at the Pinchuk Art Centre and other topics. As of late April 2010 the organization is contemplating becoming a political party to run for seats in the next Ukrainian parliamentary election.

The Cause

FEMEN protested the death sentence given to Sakineh Mohammadi-Ashtiani at the opening ceremony for an event promoting Iranian culture on Thursday Nov. 11 2010 in Kyiv.

FEMEN said the Iranian ambassador did not come to us at the embassy we had to come to him and tore off the opening week of Iranian culture in Ukraine.

The Event

To prevent self-inflicted banning I only posted the images that were "proper". A quick Google search will get you to the others as well as a number of videos. Clearly FEMEN knows that this will get news coverage as its on most of the major news services. Not sure why more groups just don't take this route ;)

This is a protest I can get behind. I´d prefer being in front of them, though *nudge nude* *wink wink*

Toplessness aside, they kind of seem like assholes. Though I've felt that way about a lot of protesting groups GAF seems to love. Protesting bullshit like hot water in dormitories and political points that barely grasp a fraction of the big picture always seems like the first post about it should be that LOOK AT ME I'M AN ATTENTION WHORE picture and then nothing else. The toplessness sounds good in concept... but I can look at boobs without supporting political opinions.

This is like the real life equivalent of those bizarre AtheneWins YouTube videos, with their large breasts, stupid politics and depressingly high view counts. Are us males really this stupid?
