XCOM: Long War |Let's Play| Invaders Must Die

Man, I hadn't realized this had started yet. Congrats to team Alpha, Bravo, and Omega on making it through their first missions with no casualties! Can't wait to bag some more of these xeno fuckers.

OPERATIONS TEAM
>> ALL

Following Incident-003, the Operations Team has come to a decision regarding future XCOM combat deployment protocol. With a relatively large number of recruits on-hand, it is vital that as many of them be exposed to real-world XCOM tactical engagement procedures as soon as possible. However, it is equally vital that new recruits learn from and operate with more veteran operatives so as to benefit from their experience.

Contact Team Omega has therefore been redesignated Strike Team Omega. Strike Team Omega is a purely situational unit that will consist of 2-3 experienced troopers leading a team of 3-4 unbloodied recruits on rapid-response, light-activity missions. Contact Team Alpha and Contact Team Bravo remain as primary engagement units composed of soldiers rank Specialist or higher, rotating between engagements so as to avoid overt fatigue.

Team Leaders will rotate through Omega temporarily on a case-by-case basis. Rookies graduating from Omega will join the pool of unassigned specialists until such a time as they are to be assigned to a Contact Team.

Okay team, it’s only been a day since the xenos stole Mardi Gras from us and they’re already trying to take maple syrup, too! Are we gonna let that happen?

NO, SIR!

Damn straight! Recon says we’re looking at urban close-quarters fighting on this one. Moderate activity threshold, so be prepared for anything! They might have numbers, but they ain’t got much else going for ‘em. Let’s get you shitbags some kills!

Long War Spoiler:
It doesn't work like that anymore. I'll let Jintor fill us in if it becomes an issue, but Brazil leaving us is completely by the book. We NEED to lose at least one nation in order for us to win, so the game picks one at random and conquers it.

Huh? How does that work? Is that a forced event that just fires off and you just lose one nation? What determines nations leaving in Long War?

It works the same, if panic goes too high, they can leave. But because you can now take countries back by attacking the alien base in that country, the aliens need to take a country from the council, so in the first month you will lose a random country so the aliens can set their first base up. The aliens can also 'take' a country regardless of panic if they've accumulated enough resources, they can initiate a mission to take a country.

Long War Story/Mechanics Spoiler:
(Seriously, don't read this if you aren't really curious since this WILL spoil a few surprises.)

You can lose a nation in one of three ways. Panic overload, lose a Terror Mission... or Alien Infiltration. If you played the original, you know that last one. The aliens send out a bunch of UFOs and when the last arrives, they build a base there. When the base is built, the nation defects. And since at least one Base Raid is needed to beat XCOM, there is ALWAYS an Infiltration mission in March. There's more, but we don't need to discuss that here yet.

I would suggest any further inquiries as to Long War's mechanics to be referred to the Long War Mod thread. Just to keep this one story focused.

Evening chaps.

For those of you inexplicably unable to access the live feeds, Tech Support is telling me that you need to ‘subscribe’ to the thread through the internal GAFCOM software on your top right. Comments are appreciated, and will be passed on through the appropriate channels. Who knows – you might even get some more field time out of it.

Firstly, regarding the global situation: A brief explanation of the current “Long War” global unrest management and tracking system.

ibieELSqmXOlEr.jpg

Data from a variety of sources (including traditional and social media as well as various anonymous sources in
[REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED]
) is organised per region and collated through various calculations into an index (‘panic’) along a discrete scale of 1-100. However, due to the ongoing effects of the Brasilia Decision earlier this week, we are currently unable to track alien-related unrest within Brazillian borders. Covert investigations into the possible subversion of the Brazillian government are ongoing.

As we can see in the above image, the United States – despite continual geostationary satellite coverage and the fact that XCOM operates from within its borders – currently ranks highest on the panic scale. However, the analysis team has noticed several spikes and decreases on a geographical basis corresponding with successful XCOM operations in those regions, despite their classified status and ongoing censorship in traditional media. It is therefore vital we increase coverage and interception as soon as possible.

iAzHQ8SEzBvsB.jpg

ironq770SSNUt.jpg

With regards to current base construction, the LVL-1 Fission Generator and Repair Bay are currently operational. Next on the agenda is a LVL-3 access elevator and either a satellite decryption uplink, laboratory or workshop. We are now accepting proposed base schematics for further consideration.

ihjJhIsLT0Wox.jpg

The HK-47 Neural Network AI is currently undergoing further lab testing. Autonomous drone platforms are not yet approved for field operations, though in an emergency situation Dr. Mindlog is fairly confident they will prove combat-ready. Field Operatives are reminded that they do not have SCI-Block level clearance, and are additionally requested to refrain from quoting ‘System Shock 2’ or ‘Portal’ at Dr Mindlog at every opportunity.

Finally: Dr Bovington and his team are currently engaged in testing the weapon fragments recovered at each operation site so far. Meanwhile, Dr. Diablos's division has made some interesting discoveries regarding alien physiology.

ibc8bwzmBOyzq5.jpg

ibrAbZJOfXWH5U.jpg

Tactical engagement procedures have not changed at this juncture, but courses on surviving close-quarters combat situations and performing non-lethal takedowns are now being offered in the barracks.
