#1 DSi game for me is probably Pictobits. It'll have a different name depending on your region.

Reason why I like it, despite not liking any other Art Style game, is because it has nice chip-tuney music (about 16 tracks made by some well-known person), it's a fun, fast-paced puzzle game that I hooked about 5 different people on, and it really is a nostalgic experience if you're an old-school Nintendo fan, with old Nintendo music remizes and a lot of 8 bit sprites, scenes, and stuff... Plus, this game has unlockables.

It's 500 points, so if you get it, you'll likely end up getting some other Art Style game anyway.

Will buy Final Fantasy as soon as the whole 4.2 dilemma is over.

Or 4.3 is up. I'm too scared to update.

Do you have to update to access the Wii Shop Channel?

Damn.

I wanted to download it as well and I have been holding off on updating for the same reason as yourself. I hope we at least hear something on the resolution to 4.2.

Thorium Wars impressions, here we go.

Played through the first two missions and a little bit of the third. It's a vehicle shooter with 1st- and 3rd-person views available. But 3rd-person is useless for firing at enemies since there is no target reticule for that. Vehicles control okay, but there aren't any advanced maneuvers you can do.

There's only campaign mode, and you complete the multiple objectives of each mission by destroying enemies. Each one is pretty long -- the first two took me 10-15 minutes each, although it did take me a while to figure out what I'm doing. There's supposed to be 12 missions or something? Oh hell. I hope the game gets better since it hasn't impressed me much yet, and there are these infinite-respawning enemies that come fly around you for the entire mission that are really annoying (they don't do much damage though).

Graphics look good for DSi -- 90's 3D. But everything kinda looks uninteresting.

I guess it's still too early to give out a recommendation, if it is recommendable.

If they had done online multiplayer or arcade-type gameplay (Spectre still rocks), it would have made the game more palatable to me, but I'll see if they can convince me otherwise.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the game is 112 blocks. Only 1 more than Asphalt 4 :lol. Asphalt 4 is mediocre and rather boring, btw, like almost every Gameloft game.

EDIT2: Just beat Mission 6. Still meh, but whoever designed the level for Mission 6 is sadistic. Ridiculous.

EDIT3: Just looked it up, 12 missions total.

I would just like to chime and and say how much I love Art Academy. As someone who can't hardly draw at all, this is exactly the type of thing that I've been hoping for. I'm sure for those who can already draw decently will find the download a waste of time, but for people like me it's just right. :D

Just a side note...

Nintendo appears to be selling "activation needed" cards through retailers now, as opposed to "live card in plastic bubble package." This might mean that we'll see more retailers carrying Wii/DS Points cards as they can sell them like any OTHER gift card, plain on a rack.

They've also stopped selling them in Wii DVD cases (seriously!) in the UK and now just provide them in DVD-sized cardboard slip cases. It's still not ideal, but it must make packaging and distribution costs a lot lower and they're heading in the right direction (iTunes cards being the model I'm thinking of here).

Well, how awesome they are is that the one card I purchased didn't scratch off properly, the first two numbers being damaged in the process. I had to basically enter every possible combination. I'm not sure if this is typical that the scratch-off part is of worse quality than the original cards.

Is Cave Story still slated for October?
I hope so. I'm slowly going crazy waiting for it. It sort of irks me that they've continually delayed for the sake of downloadable content I will never in a million years consider paying for. Time attack? 3 HP run? "Armored" enemy mode (i.e.-more health)? Not worth the extra wait at all imo.

I don't think it's typical - I've been buying points cards since launch here in the UK, and I think I've only had one where it didn't scratch properly and that was when they still supplied them in DVD cases. Scratchies still aren't ideal though, and it would be better if they just had the code printed on them instead.

If you use something sharp to scratch it happens to kill the numbers. I used scissors once and ended up destroying 2 numbers as well. As long as you use a coin it should be fine

That must be why Best Buy was out of them for so long. I see they have a new SKU now. I can finally get them there again and get back to racking up the RZ points :D

Is this a mistake or did Skip Ltd. port Q-Games Digidrive to DSi?

it's really awesome that skip is responsible for PICTOBITS and BOXLIFE.

now nintendo just needs to bring over CHIBI ROBO 3 on ds and i'll be a happy skip camper

tangentially, browsing the dsi download store i just get this sense that v.c. games are an inevitability. but waiting is fiercely annoying

Tonight's EU update (100th WiiWare game):

Virtual Console:
-Final Fight 2 (Capcom, SNES, 800 points)
-Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (Sega, Master System, 500 points)

WiiWare:
-LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias (Frontier, 1000 points)
-Happy Holidays: Halloween (505 Games, 500 points)

DSiWare:
-Dragon Quest Wars (Square Enix, 500 points)
-Photo Clock (Nintendo, 200 points)

...and bang, there it is :)

It seems like third parties are taking Nintendo's "announce then release a month later" strategy to heart. Can't wait to try the sequel...

Wait, what? I thought this was still a good few months away, maybe making it out in time for Christmas.

Time to sort out upgrading my Shop Channel, I guess.

Sweet, LostWinds! Hopefully we get it on Monday.

I really need to buy an SD card so I can so many games. I'm sure I'll have to clear quite a few for this one.
