No probs. It seems to be going down OK so far (cue hordes of dissatisfied GAFers...) and the format is fairly straightforward to maintain, so it works out for me too!

* Brain Challenge (Gameloft | 800pts) (3 July 2009)
* Mario Calculator (Nintendo | 200pts) (3 July 2009)
* Mario Clock (Nintendo | 200pts) (3 July 2009)

How hard is it for Nintendo to do this? To understand that NO one wants a week of zero games?

Not actually that important
Awesome EU update!

The price for Rebirth is PERFECT now.

Edit: game's in 4:3. I think 480p is in though.

:(

Game is still in testing stages: http://wiiware.nintendolife.com/news/2009/07/cave_story_nearing_the_finish_line

Developer ironing out some bugs.
Still waiting for the WiiWare version of Cave Story? Looks like the wait'll be just a little bit longer, but hopefully not too long.
An update over at developer Nicalis' official blog via ********** throws us a few morsels regarding the game's progress. Fortunately, it's looking good!
We still have bugs that need to be fixed. Probably about two dozen or so minor little ones that we need to address.
According to the post, both the remixed and original versions of the audio and artwork are all done, and the game is clocking in at a smooth 60fps. The approval process for DLC Wi-Fi access has begun, too.
Shouldn't be much longer now!

Anyone tried Sudoku Master yet? I'm getting a DSi soon and I'm tired of popping in brain age and go through some talking head's memorization game every time I just want to solve a Sudoku puzzle.

I have the EU version and it's pretty great. The interface is really solid and quick, letting you highlight particular numbers on the puzzle (ie you could have all the squares with threes highlighted with a green background). I was actually surprised in that I prefer it quite significantly to Brain Training's. If you fancy quick, portably sudoku, it does the job very well.

has a new episode for FFIV been released?? (man i said i'd wait until all the episodes are released but couldn't help it >_<)

hudson's sudoku on the iphone was really great, and this version has a cool mascot to lead you through it, too. i'm wondering if i should by it myself, is 150 puzzles a lot?

Iam Canadian

and have the worst user name EVER
I probably wouldn't be so disappointed with the lack of Cave Story week after week if not for that post on the Nicalis blog entitled "The Final Countdown", which led me to believe that the game was on the verge of release.

I notice that I almost typed "weak after weak", which basically sums up my opinion of the VC these last few months.

Contra Rebirth?

It came out in Japan, I believe. Supposed to be pretty decent.

DSiWare is just laughable, not only do they charge the extortionate fee of £9 for 1,000 points, but they also give us clocks, calculators, sudoku and brain games what seems to be every damn week. The Electroplankton are at least keeping some sort of hope alive... oh wait they are the same Plankton as in the full retail release. Sigh.

You can't usually 'beat' puzzle games, just keep aiming for a higher score. Or would you care to list those great DSiWare titles that don't belong to the art-style series? Even the rabid Nintendo fans I come across concede DSiWare is a joke right now.

His originally complaint is totally valid.

The comparative quantity, quality, ease of purchasing, and pricing on the app store is miles ahead of DSiWare and structurally always will be.

while you can always get a higher score, i don't think you have even played the games in question, 'cause otherwise you'd have known whether you can 'beat them' or not. so i think that satisfies my curiosity - thank, you.

i guess that's why i haven't bought anything from the app store for a month, but have been buying dsiware on a rather regular basis for that period. go figure.

see, there's a problem with the gamer's mentality in general: they're hard to please in case they decide 'nothing interests' them - and they can decide that on a whim. then the question of 'are there good games out there?' does not stand to them at all.

and this is before we even touch on the habitual 'there's some good stuff but i want way more!' attitude.

I don't see what's wrong with Electroplankton. Most people never played it because of the niche online-only release. DSiWare is a perfect place for it, and seeing as the whole lot of them costs the same amount as the actual game it's a good deal because you can break off the weaker parts if you wanted.

But most of the people bashing DSiWare are the same people who bash the DSi. I really haven't seen people dissatisfied with the system that own it (except the people who do this with every console immediately after launch) and most of DSiWare is quality, I just wouldn't pay for the clocks (though I totally bought the Tingle Pack because I'm a Tingle fan).

It has a ways to go, but it's showing a lot of potential in many areas. Hopefully the West will get Flipnote Studio sometime soon. That pretty much justifies everything.

while you can always get a higher score, i don't think you have even played the games in question, 'cause otherwise you'd have known whether you can 'beat them' or not. so i think that satisfies my curiosity - thank, you.

i guess that's why i haven't bought anything from the app store for a month, but have been buying dsiware on a rather regular basis for that period. go figure.

see, there's a problem with the gamer's mentality in general: they're hard to please in case they decide 'nothing interests' them - and they can decide that on a whim. then the question of 'are there good games out there?' does not stand to them at all.

and this is before we even touch on the habitual 'there's some good stuff but i want way more!' attitude.

Bend over and take anything you're given. And no I probably haven't beaten the game in question (Pictopic?) because I don't want to pay £9 ($15) for 1,000 points. Its a damn rip-off.

You've missed out on a whack of titles, including titles very much in the vein of the games you've been buying on DSiWare--and for a good deal cheaper, particularly if you buy from the many many many many many sales that are around.

Well I'm not going to speak for any other gamers, but I know what I like and I like virtually every genre. I buy a lot of games. I'm more satisfied with some systems than others.

There are good games on DSiWare. I've played Bird and Beans, Dr. Mario, Paper Airplane, American Popstar, Mighty Flip Champs, and all three Art Style games (both my girlfriend and I have DSis; I've personally just bought MFC and the three Art Style games). I'm not done playing them, I'm still enjoying them. But that doesn't mean I don't want 1) more quantity, 2) more variety, 3) better pricing, and 4) an easier / management buying system.

Like Mighty Flip Champs? I hope you've played Toki Tori--another great puzzle platformer. It's $10 on WiiWare, $5 on the App Store, and $1 during the sale that just occurred. Go Go Rescue Squad is also a little similar although more involved than MFC.

Like the Art Style games? Edge ($5), Eliss ($3, free demo), and Zen Bound ($5, free demo) are all as good or better than every released Art Style game while maintaining the same minimalist chill-out vibe; and best is that they all cost less. I'd also offer Enigmo ($3) and Galcon ($3, free demo) although they are a little more full-fledged.

Like WarioWare (?for some reason?) There are several micro-game compos on the AppStore. Like Sudoku? Like GameLoft? In terms of breadth, depth, quantity, and certainly price, it wins. In terms of UI and ease of buying. Part of this is a structural thing--virtually all games receive free post-release content updates, prices are incredibly low and sales are frequent, the wheat and the chaff separate very quickly and since developers can launch whenever they want, shitty games don't get in the way of good ones.

and this is before we even touch on the habitual 'there's some good stuff but i want way more!' attitude.

Doesn't this make sense?

If Nintendo releases 2 games a week, the best case scenario is that they're both awesome and the worst case scenario is that they're both terrible. Give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that both are games, both are excellent, and taste-wise I like half of them. This is an absurdly generous claim.

In that same week, 100+ games have been added to the app store. Let's assume that only quarter the games are any good, and only a quarter of those even resemble my taste. And none have demos. And no old games are on sale. And all the new games are at the maximum app store price point.

Given that the prospect of retail DSi-only games is long off, and given that most of us here have DSes or DSLites and thus DSiWare is a primary purchase driver for the DSi, it's fair to express exasperation at Nintendo's approach to the service.
