"Such a waste of great music in a subpar game" thread.

The Zelda botw trailer music was super wasted imo
You're not wrong, in one sense, but BotW is a pretty amazing game no matter how you slice it.

It *was* one of the best trailers in video game history, however, so in that sense, it was an absolute success.

I agree, but I'm giving people the benefit of the doubt that they genuinely believe the games are subpar and not well-made games that they couldn't get into.

Ah I get it, fair enough.

Ocarina of Time without a doubt, though Final Fantasy VII is also a strong contender. FF VI isn't far behind them, only reason I finished that miserable slog of a game was due to its OST. And all those beautiful melodies wasted on trash like Mario Galaxy 1 and 2... smh. The Mega Man series is pretty terrible too, and let's not even talk about the Donkey Kong Country games.

Serious answer: Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Battle 22 and Final Bout.

I can respect that.

Give it a couple more pages and surely enough we'll reach these levels though.

And about your actual pick, and now that I think about it, all three Super Butoden games on the SFC were kinda lame outside of their commitment to feel like actual DBZ fights, but they had pretty kickass music

I think this thread belongs to the ill fated MMO Age of Conan, i think the soundtrack is amazing and it has won a few critics awards.

JUst finished my first play through of nier. So far nier really isn't a good game at all. Maybe that will changed when I see all the endings.

Nier for me.

Disclaimer: I've not played this game but I have played many Atelier titles by the same dev and love the series. Their games are an acquired taste so most people would classify the games as subpar. The soundtrack of Ar no Surge has some "these belong in a AAA game" tracks on it.

The Vita port has some glowing reviews. I should check it out when it's next on sale.

And on that note, Ar Tonelico Qoga:

...Remember Me is also a good mention and has brilliant music (and art direction) as well...

Holy shit this song. Is it the battle theme? I don't know if there could be a game that could live up to this music.

It was nice to see Olivier Deriviere win the IFMCA award for 2013:
http://filmmusiccritics.org/2014/02/ifmca-winners-2013/
...In the non-film categories, Argentine composer FEDERICO JUSID won the award for Best Original Score for a Television Series for his outstanding work on the most recent season of the Spanish historical TV drama ISABEL, while French composer OLIVIER DERIVIÈRE won the award for Best Original Score for a Video Game or Interactive Media for his creative, unconventional score for the reality-altering REMEMBER ME...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Film_Music_Critics_Association
...The organization is responsible for the annual International Film Music Critics Association Awards, the only awards given to composers by active film music journalists, and which are seen by many as a valuable precursor to the Academy Awards in the absence of a guild for composers. [5] They have been called the "Oscars of film music", [6] have been featured in major daily newspapers in Spain[7] and Portugal,[8] are recognized by major performing rights organizations such as ASCAP in the United States[9] and SGAE in Europe,[10] and most recently have been seen by the video games industry as an important step forward in legitimizing game music as a mainstream creative art form [11]...
Also (for those who may be open-minded/curious about the game itself), I'll mention that the game tends to come up fairly often in threads like ‘Lowest rated game that you have loved’ and ‘Games You Loved And Found Out Later That They're Considered Bad?’, as well as other threads.

Yes! I was thinking of mentioning them too but I'm kinda fond of them due to my childhood memories haha

Say what you want about Kenji Yamamoto, but damn did he make some good songs. It's a shame that stuff like Hikari no Willpower is stuck in a limbo because of the whole plagiarism fiasco (or was that one by Kageyama? I'm not sure which of the two actually composed it).

This is a thread about Slain. Awesome tunes from beginning to end, probably the best metal soundtrack in video game history, wasted on....well, mediocrity.

I've went through most of this thread's music.

Hats off to the people who posted Silver Surfer, Knuckles Chaotix, Remember Me, and Pictionary. Those didn't get as many replies as others, but holy hell they are amazing.

Takes of the Tempest. You know how Sakuraba makes 20-30 good tracks and phones the rest in? On this soundtrack he compared the good tracks and stopped. Too bad the Game is so bad they had to retcon it out of the main series.

The Zelda botw trailer music was super wasted imo

Nah, the little stop/skip track bullshit they have in the middle of the theme 100% turns it into shit. Cannot even listen to it it makes me so mad.

Sounds like something out of Pokemon Pinball.

I looked up the OST of Pokemon Pinball on Youtube, but none of the ones I listened to sounded quite like it

Fuck off, US version 4 lyfe.

Indeed

I've went through most of this thread's music.

Hats off to the people who posted Silver Surfer, Knuckles Chaotix, Remember Me, and Pictionary. Those didn't get as many replies as others, but holy hell they are amazing.

Thanks!

I know this will be an unpopular choice, but for me it is destiny and it's soundtrack.

First games thajt come to mind
Tales of Vesperia
Chrono Trigger
Shin Megami Tensei IV
.Hack//G.U.
Edit: Tales of Cold Steel

Valkyria Revolution a.k.a Valkyria: Azure Revolution hasn't come out in the West yet, but it's Japanese reception has been.... kind of terrible. Like, 2 Stars on Amazon JP terrible.

Which sucks, not just because I wanted the game to be good, but also because the OST was done by Yasunori Mitsuda of Chrono Trigger and Xenogears(!) fame.

Give it a listen, he really knocked it out of the park:

Azure Revolution

Young Soldiers Charging Towards Victory

Pledged Revenge

Rusty hearts, a mediocre anime hack & slash mmo, it had some really amazing songs like this one. The songs really elevated the gameplay to the next level, it's a sad thing that the game was closed down years ago. It was amazing to mow down hundreds of undead to the beat of heart broken.

lament of a rusting heart
heart broken

Does more soundtrack then original music count?

Cos Def Jam: Icon, if so.

Bangin soundtrack. Even had a Mike Jones track or two i liked
come at me
.

The game itself though..... Fuck me. Especially after how good the prior two title were
