The recently announced $30 Hori pro controller looks like it's worth trying.

Have you personally tried that? The d-pad looks a lot like the awful 360 d-pad, and it scares me.

I haven't, but that's due to me being happy with my Pro Controllers.

The "D-Pad" is just a cover for the directional buttons. If you don't use the cover, you can just put it in the back of the controller.
The 8BitDo controller is still the one that I'm waiting for, as well.
OP, if you already own some Wii U Pro Controllers - or even have some PS4 controllers lying around - might I suggest the MayFlash adapter?
If you've ever used MayFlash before, it's a fantastic little dongle that lets you pair quite a number of controllers to your Switch, PC, or even PS4. I've been using it and I love it. It's this one here.
