Million selling PS1 and PS2 games in the USA - More than 190 titles

wow most of these numbers are a lot higher than i would have expected

come on sony, get the ps1 emulator running on ps4, already

This thread seems unnecessary given this post is already in a thread and talked about that's across multiple older consoles, and mostly, primarily, there's no PS3 and PSP numbers.

  • The Legend of Dragoon - 0.96 million

And it's not worthy of a sequel. C'mon, Sony!

What's fascinating is Chrono Cross isn't on this list. Would have guessed it sold at least one million copies.

^But it will help fix those people who believe that in NA gaming was owned by Japan in the 90's and 00's when that wasn't the case at all. So that saves me some work if I ever get into a debate like that on a random website or here.

The PSone chart is just a reminder of what could've been for Driver. It could've been GTA3 had the sequel not been rushed out on the PSone.

Vice City sold more than San Andreas? Never would have guessed. Interesting stuff.

Yeah, I would've guessed that it was the other way around. Still these are only US numbers and not worldwide. I would imagine that SA sold more copies across the globe.

Wait GTA 2 outsold GTA 1?

GTA 2 is like one of the harder games to find weird.

Anyway Interesting to See how Spyro dropped off after the first game. I always knew it did, but it seems strange how 2 did worse than 3. But then again skate boarding with cheetahs was class.

Man, madden was huge during the PS2 era.

Also interesting how big Square was during that time.

Madden's sales haven't really changed all that much. Other series have just gotten bigger to the point that 4-5 million isn't that big anymore.

But I heard the majority of Playstation exclusives barely hit 1 million, let alone a couple of million. Where have you guys been last gen?

Typo if you got the reference. :D

THE LEGEND OF DRAGOON !!!!

God... Sony... you had a damn good JRPG team (with a million seller IP) and you blew it.
Now you have nothing at all.
Even Nintendo has a JRPG team with Monolith Software.

Yeah, what's the deal with Frogger?

I think it was a budget release that was in every store, but still...pretty weird.

As of 2008, NPD adjusted a lot of numbers and include all releases including bundles etc....

not a single 3rd party game cracked 2 million lol

Man, Kingdom Hearts outsold Final Fantasy VII. I would have never guessed that. What a monster franchise. No wonder why Square thought it was a great idea to stop releasing the series on home consoles for over a decade.

The highest selling PS1 game only got to 4 million copies?

Tomb Raider was a sales disappointment after 1 month and 3.5 million copies sold.

never knew ace combat 4 was that big in the us

And I am amazed that neither 5 or 0 is there on the list. Either people didn't like 4 so they didn't bother with the sequels or I don't know. It is strange since both 5 and 0 are better than 4 in every aspect.

Those are very interesting numbers for the PS1. Final Fantasy IX's sales aren't surprising since pretty much everyone was getting hyped for the PS2. Also cool to see a lot of platformers I grew up with on the list. Croc charting that much actually isn't surprising either, a lot of friends I knew had the game.

With such a huge userbase comprising different tastes, and such a broad selection of software, the PSone numbers are really good. They only look slight against the N64's heavy hitters because the N64 userbase and software range was smaller, meaning less people with less games to choose from, and also because the quartet of SM64, Goldeneye 007, Mario Kart 64 and Ocarina were that good.

It's also a good argument as to why you don't always need big install bases for strong software sales (although it inevitably helps). For example, Mario Kart 8 has almost reached MK64's sales, and will probably surpass it, on a platform which currently represents less than a third of the N64's footprint.

It was a sarcastic post.
