Local PS3 launch news and notes (funny stuff, numbers, etc).

If you live in the Huntington, WV area watch channel 13. The Walmart I work at (the one by the mall in barboursville) will be on the news soon.

We have a total of 14 campers inside the store (we gave them a section)according to my manager. One took off running when the camera man came by. At first we thought he was a felon.lol It turns out he called in at work and told them that he had a family emergency.

Our managers have had to talk to the group several times. According to one, they have gotten out of hand several times. She actually went out there and talked to them in her "school teacher voice" and told them it was a privledge to be allowed to camp inside the store. Supposedly something happened involving a scratch and a punch that got took out of context.

I was told all day "We are supposed to get 10 PS3's. We were originally supposed to get upwards of 20". Before I left work a half hour ago, I talked to the night manager an d he said it came across the wire that they should expect a minimum of 2 PS3's or more. According to him, they may receive up to 10 like they expected but they can count on only 2 for sure. I believe he told the campers this as well as i was leaving. We still have not recieved our shipment.

Any store tracking sight giving numbers different than the ones I posted above needs to update them.

Keep in mind this isn't a big city store and thus priority will go elsewhere in case of scarcity.

Also, I swear I saw the hottest brunette girl ever in line. Only saw her the one time though. Alot of the campers would get out of line and play our PS3 in electronics.

I know some Marshall students from the area post here. If any of you GAF'ers are in line at my store with your laptop viewing this thread..........no, I won't help you steal one. j/k

Update:

We have 6 PS3's that came in this morning. I left at 9pm and the instock team was still unloading a truck. Barring an unlikely second shipment, we have 6 PS3's for 20 some campers.

Also, my management team decide to stick all of our campers in my departmen t: lawn and garden. They gave them bean bag chairs and checked up on their "needs" about every two hours. Guess what? When asked, I was told everyone of them said they was going to sell them on ebay.

My management team is basically babying a bunch of scalpers!

Of course I just had to be a butthole and let them know we only had six so far. I was told not to tell them but I just had the urge to do it when asked. Serves the m right for being scalpers, says I!

Interesting note: Lots of PSP's and taco bell amongst the group. Apparently ebay scalpers have hot girlfriends/sisters too.

Also, my manager said we are expecting 29 Wii 's to arrive soon.

My local news was out at Best Buy and they asked one of the guys in line why he wanted a PS3.

He said it was because he could hook it up to a high definition TV and get 3-D graphics.

People like this guy are why Sony dominates this industry.

I was listening to 1010 Wins News (NYC radio station) on my way to Costco, and they were interviewing people that were camped out. They asked this one guy why he was going through all the trouble of getting a PS3 when he could buy an Xbox. This is verbatim, "I had a 360 last year, but it blew up after a couple of weeks." :lol

Same story here. My sister works at Wal-Mart and our local store is only getting 6 as well. They also put the campers in lawn and garden and my sister suspects most are selling them on ebay.

lol! almost as funny as the guy who said the 360 would turn his tv into an HDTV!

Target across the street from me is getting 8. All 8 people said they're eBaying them. They had no idea what games were available when I asked what game they were getting.

Sad.

I just got back from picking up some Christmas lights at the Target in Athens, GA.
I'm work there and am off tonight but I talked to some of the guys on the floor...
The PS3 buyers/scalpers/frat boys (Athens in a college town) had tried lining up all throughout the day and the store told them "No" and to disband- they aren't allowed to form a line until 10PM.
Basically- to keep from 'lining up' the campers just hung around the doors (kinda creepily) while other went in and out the store throughout this time, huddling with their buddies in the corner of a forgotten aisle, going over their game plan.

By the time I left the store- around 50 people were outside along with 2 police cars, coraling the potential buyers... It was kind of scary coming out of the store because there was a wall of people on either side. On the way too the car, I saw the manager of the Gamestop (which is 2 stores down from the Target and where I got my PS3 preorder with waiting in line under an hour) heading towards his store... I only hope for his sake that none of the mob spot him and run him down..

I hate to be the person to tell all those people waiting outside the Target that the store only has 8 units...
