| 3.5 Quick Note about Formatting |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you want to suggest a game that has recently released or that looks interesting, but hasnt released yet, please follow the following formatting structure so the post is picked up by Toma-Bot:
Released games:
TITLE - PRICE (PLAT)
LINK
DESCRIPTION TEXT
Not yet released games:
TITLE - PLAT
LINK
DESCRIPTION TEXT
Copy the appropriate content and add the proper information for the black writing. Please only include 1 link and 1 image. I tried making it a bit failsafe, so it should be able to deal with 2 links or images as well, but 1 is safer.
If the game is free, then put "Free" as the price, otherwise please use $ or € for the price. You can also include more than one game per post (like the Screenshot saturday posts), but please stick to the above format for every entry.
If someone posts a non-proper formatted post, I'd appreciate if you could repost the game with the same info in the proper format.
I noticed there are a few noteworthy, and relatively unknown, projects that deserve a shoutout here because I feel that they share a common interest with the people in this thread. I talked to the guy from Pixabyte and MetaVendetta and both are very enthusiastic about the things they love and figured you might appreciate the shoutout as well. If you enjoy anything here or want to give feedback, let these guys know via their websites or also here in this thread. If you appreciate something, let people know. A heads up can sometimes very valuable.
I have finally finished the 4 puzzles of Fragments of Euclid. It turned out the 1st puzzle which I had solved was also the most difficult, so I was a bit mislead because I expected the same kind of level design for the other puzzles. Still interesting.
Good Portal vibes, plus the trick of alternate gravity. I love that game.
Thought Dad Quest got a full release already, but it's Early Access. I'm unexplainably hyped for this game.
Hollow Knight was fucking incredible. Fluid animation and movement with occasional stutters (that the devs are aware of and have promised to patch), a beautiful world with a Dark Souls style of lore and plot delivery, and tough as nails metroidvania platforming and combat action. I cannot overstate how good this game is for $15.00
Has anyone tried Fumiko?
Pantropy Feels like Connan exiles mixed with NMS o_O
Blackwake - is it even playable without your own team of friends?
Desync is bloody awesome, its like mix of DOOM 2016 on nightmare with TRON movie. I had lots of fun playing that. Tho It kinda hurts me, no RTS releases... Still waiting for Dawn of War 3 and new spellforce :/
Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
The quality is there though. So the argument "less quantity, more quality" does not hold.
It is time which we are lacking.
Too many good games, not enough time is IndieGAF's unofficial motto
And yeah, quality isn't the issue here. You just have to be more selective than ever to actually play something. Doesn't help that I'm also playing more AAA games than ever due to PS4
Cant believe Rain World is finally releasing. That game is pretty much emblematic of my experience with indie games. It was the game that introduced me to TIGSource and the notion of devlogs, and colored my perspective of indie development. It was there from the start when I first was getting into PC games and indie games. There's no other game that I've followed as long or as closely. End of an era really
Anyone else feel there's going to be some major negative effect due to new indie publishers constantly popping up? Like I love seeing quality games getting support and exposure, but I can't help feel like there's going to be some downside in the long run
Aside from good games finding it harder to stand out due to all the other good games, of course
I don't see a downside for the devs. It is more money for them. Unless the publisher is some scummy ***bag, I think it is all good.
Take for instance the (communist) dev of The Sea Will Claim Everything. I read his blog posts from time to time, and it is pretty clear he is tight on money and gets a lot of anxiety due to administrative paper work, anxiety to disappoint (& steal the money of) backers. I think he would gladly accept to be helped by a nice publisher, but if he ever comes to meet a bad one, he will end up in some dirty dark mood really quickly. It is too bad because I love the work of his wife and him.
Aside from good games finding it harder to stand out due to all the other good games, of course
This is a big issue in my opinion. People have limited time & money, so the risk is people are all going to buy the same few games, and others could sell really badly, despite their quality.
I think that on average the positives outweigh the negatives in regards to the effects of the rise of indie publishers on the scene. Their are a lot of developers that just cannot draw up the funds to finish off their work and the pubs can help bring games to markets that otherwise wouldn't make it, or make it in a far more limited fashion (Rain World might not even exist if not for Adult Swim).
That said, I would be wrong to not mention the potential problem that the post mortum of Poncho highlighted. The dev team of that game and Rising Star (their pubs) had a major breakdown in communication and it seemed to end up quite ugly between the two. As the scene continues to grow I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing more infighting between publishers and developers, especially since most devs this is their first game and they might not be 100% familiar with the etiquette of with dealing with business partners.
Yeah, Poncho! I remember the situation but I had forgotten the name of the game.
There was a problem also for Transcripted by Alkemi.
Anyone try Loot Rascals yet? It's possibly my next indie I'm going to try, but between work, kids, and Horizon, I don't have time for it at the moment
