Star Wars Battlefront II won't have a Season Pass, don't want to fragment community

Season Pass No More
Bernd Diemer, DICE's Battlefront II creative director, confirmed it outright in a chat ahead of the game's Star Wars Celebration 2017 reveal: "We don't have a season pass."

"We decided on that, and it's one of those difficult decisions because it has so many implications all around," he continued. "When we looked at the way Battlefront had evolved over its lifetime, with the DLC and everything, we decided, 'You know what? For this type of game, season passes are not the best thing. We need to [take it apart] and come up with something better."
It's clear that this decision was rooted in a core idea: "We don't want to segment our community," Diemer said.

"I cannot talk about the specifics of this, but we have something different in mind that will allow you to play longer, be [more] invested in the game without having a fragmented community."

Diemer admitted that it's "dangerous" to the health of a game's community when new maps and new modes are locked behind a paywall. It creates a situation where, as he put it, "the community is falling apart because there are simply not many people playing the different modes."

"So we definitely want to avoid that."

// Mod Edit:

It's worth noting that the pre-order bonus is for cosmetic skins (they give Rey and Kylo outfits that make them look like their Episode VIII versions), so presumably they're thinking in that direction for monetization.

No expansion pack available to pre-order today.

BF1's expansion pack was not announced until a few months before release.

Guess I need to post this again since there are some people who seem to have already forgotten after 2 page. Wow, how the mind slips!

"Allegedly"

Opening admitting to sexually assaulting someone(then banning anyone who called him out for it)

Posting revenge porn with their real full names then another admin(a now jailed pedophile) printed the photos and jacked off over them and sent it to the boyfriend.

You're right, how can we even know if he's guilty or not? HMMMM

Dude what

From dropping the ball with BF to a potential slam dunk with 2

Hope it's true

Don't care about cosmetics, by all means do it up. Just don't keep majority of the maps in a pass

Now learn this lesson for Battlefield, DICE! Instead of fragmenting the community by making us pay for maps and game modes, make us pay for COSMETICS!

If be happy if they don't have one. I'll gladly pick up on pc. If they have lootboxes it better be like csgo/overwatch.

I don't believe they won't announce it later. They'll have both just wait. EA is in the practice of seeing how many gated things they can throw into a game.

Hero Pre Order
Loot Boxes
Paid DLC
Probably seperate cosmetic DLC just for good measure.

Preorder info includes references to cosmetics and weapon attachments, so they'll be recovering the costs via good-old micro-transactions.

The pre-order bonuses are just skins it looks like. Rey/Kylo/Millenium Falcon/The First Order ship are all in the base game. Pre-order just gets you their TLJ looks.

they must be pretty confident with the quality after the lackluster first entry .. charging for cosmetics only only works with solid games like titanfall 2 or rainbow six.

Overwatch-esque loot boxes. You heard it here first.

I need the JarJar Binks skin. I will rule the galaxy as the best character in the Star Wars universe.

I really don't mind loot box style item and some micro-transactions if it means not splitting the player base due to having to buy maps and modes.

Then I wonder what they'll do for DLC.

Microtransactions galore?
They've got an entire universe to mine for cosmetic DLC. Throwing Last Jedi heroes behind a preorder wall also makes me think characters will be a DLC commodity (maybe with rotating free characters, League style).

Edit - Apparently TLJ content is cosmetic stuff for basic game characters. So never mind.

Well that's at least some comfort. I really hope it truly does pan out that they've moved with the times. But I am so damn weary of EA and Dice at this point. They make some great stuff but Battlefront and Battlefield games DLC practices for a while now have been awful. I don't believe they've suddenly just abandoned their high cost model.

Looks like a fat "maybe", and nothing really preventing all manner of paid dlc, which is to be expected since that is generally the big earner for EA

The Last Jedi heroes are for the skins. Not the actual kylo and ren characters.

I'm pretty sure both are already in the game.

Keep all the stuff that has any effect on balance available for free to everyone and have all cosmetics be paid for.

I really enjoyed BF. I picked it up a year after launch and got the DLC pass after a day of playing I liked it so much. It has it's faults, but I still had fun.

Oh I completely agree. I am extremely surprised and skeptical that EA is completely abandoning a season pass. We'll have to wait and see but I am very suspicious there's something else scummy that will crop up.

Surely it'll be better than paying nearly the cost of the full game again though.

They are. They're in the trailer and they confirmed on stage they're in the game. They even said Kylo was playable in part of the campaign.
