Republican Candidate in Montana Special Election Attacks Reporter

RoboPlato

I'd be in the dick
Greg Gianforte is the Republican Candidate trying to defend his seat in the upcoming special election. Ben Jacobs is a political reporter for The Guardian

Greg Gianforte just body slammed me and broke my glasses

There was a local TV crew there when Gianforte body slammed me. Audio is posting soon at @GuardianUS

Worth noting that Ben Jacobs is the reporter who broke news of Gianforte having $250,000 in Russian index funds

Although literally assaulting a member of the press might be a good way to encourage Republican turnout these days, so...

Politics is real right now. He punched his ticket! Talk about being hands on with constituents and fighting for what you believe in. Literally.

Oh boy. Don't think this will change anything but man

I don't know. If there's anything that could change something last minute it might be a story like this. I mean, slapping a reporter or pushing is maybe something you could wave off, but goddamn body slamming in a public place? I mean, the fuck?

More Ubisoft viral marketing I see...

Hopefully caught on video. Don't need to change a lot of folks minds in MT to change several %. Just get Missoula out yo vote too...

The election day is tomorrow by the way, and polling has him only ahead by a few points. Montana's Representative might be wearing a cowboy hat.

Polling in this election has shown it super close, too. They've basically been tied for weeks outside a 1 or 2 point difference between the two.

Nah that is the Georgia race. The Montana race has barely had any polling and it has been all over the place.

His base will probably love it.

Gianforte doesn't have a base. He's getting by solely by having an R in Montana and the GOP sinking millions and millions into this race. Even then he's only mildly ahead of Quist in the polling, he has no kind of commanding lead.

Definitely not the type of thing you want to be doing in a tight election. Going to be interesting to see how this pans out tomorrow, especially this is an election that has no reason to be as close as its projected to be to begin with.

Montana seems like it would be supportive of this behavior, but I could be talking out of my ass.

I don't know much about Montana, but I know this guy has been pretty tepidly received and part of the reason the race has been so close. And his opponent is well liked, even by GOP voters apparently.

The enthusiasm is in Quist's favor even though the numbers are tight. If this makes 1,000 Republicans stay home tomorrow, it could be fatal.

I don't know much about Montana either, but if you asked me to picture what a representative from Montana might look like, I'd probably picture Rob Quist:
